More choices in end game armor

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 9:22 am

They should make plenty of high-level weapons and armour that are unique and one-of-a-kind. e.g, "Shoulders of Dave" are grey and spikey, and the only shoulders that look like that. "Gauntlets of the Flying Tiger" could have an orange pattern, and the only gloves that look like that. etc.

The same reason I don't like playing MMO, everyone wears the same armour as I do because it's the best. I don't mind various design of the same armour even if they all offer the same specs and buff.

Actually, I don't like restriction imposed on what can be worn, whether from levels or stats or class, I just want to wear whatever that suits my character's style or look.

Eh, I never choose equipment based on stats. I just choose whatever fits a particular character the most.

Yeah... I laugh at you poor fools as my level 20 Argonian fights for his life with a rusty iron war axe... again...

Bethesda also needs to bring back unarmored, I was going to go with a monk in brown robes that was supposed to be fairly agile and such but I ended up going for leather armor due to my characters defences simply not progressing at all while the damage of the enemies I faced was increasing at a steady pace, the game was just not made for anyone to go into melee combat unarmored. So yeah I′d hope Skyrim took some of the features Morrowind had back, and if I understand it right they are even trying to be rid of the whole light/heavy armor but why not instead of having 18 skills with no armor prefferences have 21 skills where you put heavy armor in combat, light armor in stealth and unarmored in magic ?

They'll probably separate light/medium/heavy armor in the perks for a common Armor skill.

Agreed. More different style armos and not a definite 100% best armor in the game. We shouldn't be able to say, "This armor is the best in the game", but perhaps "This armor has the best weight to protection ratio", "this armor has highest protection but weights much more than this other armor, while only protecting just a little more".

Instead of the "linear progression" rat-race in OB, I would much prefer to have distinct differences and advantages to using one over another. Durability, weight, repariability, and elemental resistances are all reasons to stick with something that's "good", but not the highest absolute protective value. If you have to choose between one that's incredibly protective but brittle that won't stand up to more than a few hits, versus one that's far less protective but will hold up through a lengthy encounter, your choice depends on HOW you play. One is not "better", just better at certain things. That's realistic.

Seeing what they did with Fallout... yes, I would expect more variety, at the end of the game.

Why have 'endgame armour'?

The great thing about Morrowind was that Artifacts were scattered throughout the Main Quest. Daedric Gauntlets in Kogoruhn. Randagalf in that one place. Daedric Greaves in the Dren plantation. Wraithguard, Sunder and Keening. All of those were integrated much better than Oblivion, where I think I found a staff once.

Current endgame armor is supposedly god's blood, so they could use other godly substances. Smegma, nasal mucus, gastrointestinal fluid.

Yes, more armor and weapon types should share the high-end place on the list.
Give all types a unique effect, then there wouldn't be a single best item type (Daedric) for every single encounter in the game.

Good idea. Perhaps one armor type can be really enchantable and have no penalty to magic users, but only provides average protection.

make the smithing skill really play a part in this. If you don't want to focus on Smithing, due to RP reason, then you should just have to deal with what's there. But if you are a master in Smithing you should be able to make/arlter your armor to get better/more variation of endgame armor.

Plus put in more artifact/unique pieces.

Powerful armor should be much more rare too, like it was in Morrowind, not Oblivion. And yes to more choices.

This.

I'd sort of prefer an actual ending to the game. It does nothing for me when the grand champion after he saves the world gets to go get potatoes or fetch ceramic bowls for lazy cats. I don't expect much out of the gameplay after you beat the main quest because it feels like anything you could do would be beneath you. Clear endings also mean you have the ability to write good quality endings, instead of the quick petering out of interest they've called an ending recently.
There is an ending if you want there to be. Just stop playing that character.

I don't really choose equipment based on stats. I just hope robes look better. The oblivion robes looked horrible, especially compared to, say, dragon age robes where my character actually looked dressed for combat.

Why not make it so that the difference between early- and late-game equipment is as extreme as it was in Oblivion? That way, you'd still be superior in Daedric, but you'd also survive (at a greater challenge) even in low-level armor, allowing you a greater practical range of gear.

But yeah, I generally think that the gear progression in the Elder Scrolls games were a bit lame. Not all people fancy the demonic looks of daedric armor. Furthermore, I felt it was rather nonsensical that every other NPCs just started to wear daedric at higher levels, as if it suddenly became ridiculously abundant. And please don't tell me that it was because of the Oblivion gates gradually introducing more and more daedric gear into the world, cause I don't buy that. Besides, what about low-level spawns like Imps and whatnot? They essentially seized to exist beyond a certain level. What - so the Gods brag to the imps about how powerful you are, so they suddenly just all die from their immense feeling of fear and awe?

Anyways, Bethesda please fix this and (1) make endgame gear more varied and (2) daedric gear A LOT less common.

It would be good if they had and unenchanted and wearable for evil people version of the Crusaders relics, because that looked cool but you could only wear it if you RPed a good char.

I thought we had enough choices in endgame armor in TES IV. Glass, Daedric, Perfect Madness, Perfect Amber, and the Crusader's relics. In Morrowind we had Daedric, Glass, Nordic Mail, Royal Guard, and Her Hand. Yes, TES III also had more artifacts, but I was never a fan of the mix-and-match appearance they gave.

I think the bigger issue would be to give more mid-game and early-game armors.

With smithing this could already be fixed. If you really like how glass armor looks and you are a master smith you should be able to make armor that looks like glass, but is as strong as daedric. But I won't say no to more armor types. I WANT MOAR SHIELD TYPES!

The problem is getting those high-level, non-demonic armors in the original (note: pre DLC and pre the now-unlikely expansion(s)) game on the heavy armor side and just toning down the overly glossy light armors, in general, in my opinion.
