37 more days! How did you hear about Brink?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:24 am

According to my countdown clock, it's 37 more days until May 17th. The days are slowly but surely ticking by, and we all know what happens after.

However, how long have you been waiting? What's your story behind becoming a Brink fan?

Mine was when I was crusing around the Monday Night Combat forums somewhere last December - I went to the Off topic section and this one thread caught my eye - "Has anyone heard of BRINK?". I click it, look around, and someone describes it as "Team Fortress 2, Borderlands, and Mirror's Edge all getting together and BRINK is it's beautiful lovechild". Curious, I googled it, looked at reviews, read the Compendium, joined the forum, and here I am.

I saw the first teaser trailer for it on machinimas youtube page when it first came up. Curious about it I came onto the brink site and read and watched the videos that were out at the time. then after the first real trailer that everyone knows came out I signed up here I think.

It was like a years I think since I saw the very 1st Brink video released. At that time I was excited for it but not excited like OMG OMG WIN!!!!! but like normal excited like meh, looks like a good game to play. And ever since Killzone 3's launch and the dissapointement of most of it's fans they all (not all but some, especially the most dramtic kind) found an excuse (Brink) to spread the word about this extraordinary game. And thus this game has caught my attention.

P.S. I'm not one those kind of dissapointed KZ3 fans.

That is all...

I was primarily a Fallout guy on these forums, but then I saw this weird game called Brink at the top of the Board Index, and thought..

"Haha, Brink! What kinda name is that? I'm gonna go take a look at these losers and see how lame this game is.."

Turns out I was wrong.

I then proceeded to spend weeks of my life researching it and posting on these forums.

When I was hanging around the forums waiting for Fallout 3, hence my forum join date... Basically I heard Bethesda was publishing the game and I was all like "oh, cool. It's by the Enemy Territories people".

So BRINK was the love child of a 3 way...sounds like a story of epic proportions.

Anyway I can't remember for the life of me where I first saw/heard of brink, but I pre-ordered it on steam back in December and I've been waiting for the release ever sense.

Heard about it briefly way back at E3 '09, I believe. Didn't really give it much thought for a while though, until I heard about its amazing level of customization. Me, being a svcker for customizing, immediately began researching the game like crazy. As you can see, I eventually got to the point where I joined this forum to further research the game, as well as occasionally offer my input. So yeah, I've been eagerly awaiting this game for roughly a year and a half now. And soon, soon......soon it will all pay off.

Its been so long I can't remember what first drew me to Brink but I liked it enough to come here and stay here all those months ago. Now I am probably the oldest forum member for Brink that regularly contributes. So I am here spreading the word and helping the newbs in the name of H0RSE.

I first heard about Brink when I was attending PAX last year. I saw the booth, but I, not wanting to wait for anything, skipped it. At the time, I was obsessed with FNV so I just played it 7 times instead. :P

I first caught a glimpse of Brink in a Machinima video as I am an avid subscriber. It was the trailer with the jamaican guy running around with the grenade launcher.

Looked kinda cool. The parkour and art style kind of peaked my interest, but I quickly dismissed it and forgot about as I was anticipating other releases at the time. Didn't see a second of gameplay.

One year later (yesterday to be exact), I happened to stumble upon this little game, again through machinima. But this time I saw gameplay.

I saw the parkour ingame and I was like "THAT's pretty cool.", then I saw the deep customization and I was like "Ooooohh!" (I'm a real svcker for customization, believe me) and THEN I saw the teambased gameplay and TF2-like character classes and body types, and I was like "........!!!".

And, as per usual, I obsessively searched for and soaked in information from every video, article, and.. Forum. Then I began to read threads with discussions and info, and I wanted to be involved in the these discussions, and well, here I am.

A friend I usually game with (LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2, Bad Company 2 etc.) told me on the several days of 2011. I got interested into buying it, plus I grew tired of certain FPS in my collection (excluding Battlefield series) nowadays. :glare:

I made a signature for some guy on the MAG forums, he asked me how to use it (with the BB code) and I told him how, then he told me it wasn't working on "the Brink forums". I asked him what Brink was, he linked me to the official site, and... yeah.

I watched the teaser back in '09. The narrators voice just won me over, and the lack of detail made me want to know what this game was about. Not to mention when the camera zooms into the characters eye with the ambient gunfire, the little details where just added to the experience.
