More depth or less depth that is the question?

Im starting this topic as I am interested to know how others think depth could be improved in the game and if more depth is required.
I realize that this is covered in many other areas but I was hoping to have it all in one place. Who knows maybe the powers that be will take the hint not just for fallout, (Primarily for fallout IMO) but for any RPG they make. This is do in large part to some recent comments in another section stating that Betheseda is losing depth in there games and basically making FPS games with some rpg content.

So to start off with IMO more depth is definately required.

how:
  • More non combat related solutions to quests such as threw diplomacy, stealth, scientific know how
  • The radiant AI would definitely be a start as it would give NPC more depth. From what I understand it needs to have more criteria in it so they dont kill when they need something.
  • Companions need to be more then just a quest and then a gun for hire/pack mule. They should pick up items that interest them, haggle with merchants when they want something, require food and drink, have other wants and desires etc.
  • relationships should have to be maintained by actions.
  • marriage, children, friendships should also be added.
That should be a start anyways.

I think there should also be more customization, like for example, you could make your character a ghoul in Fallout or maybe even be able to start off in a certain faction. I think something like that could help

Who wouldn't want more depth? That is the real question. Fallout has always been about different factions struggling for control and survival in the wasteland. How their different view on the world comes into conflict and how they deal with it. Hence "War. War never changes."

more depth, or equal depth. If bethesda is clever they will take the improvements that nv did to fallout 3 and roll with them. Grey factions, no end of the world plot, diverse guns and crafting. Also every skill should contribute to dialogue choices, and diverse skill checks.

Although i'm against marriage, because it would be extremely shallow

Not if you are falling down a large hole. I would much rather prefer less depth. Or if my boat was sinking, less water depth would be good.
