More diverse speech

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 11:38 pm

I understand you can't hire a crap load of voice actors, but I really hope the voices are more diverse. Rather than every red guard having the same voice. Which was really trippy when you heard the same guy talking to himself, just to find out it's just 2 different NPC's having a conversation. They don't even really have to be voice actors, get some random employees and have them be a character or two.

They should also put in those random sayings that they had in Morrowind. Like "...and there i was, winking at the honey jar again." or "...I didn't remember using teleportation magic, but then there I was...alone...naked..."

I just miss the diversity in speech. It looks like they did a good job by making the lands quite diverse in the teasers, but I guess we'll see...

Even if they had one voice actor covering each gender of each race like in oblivion they could at least hire people with some diversity this time.

There's a reason why they call it voice acting, because you have to do something to your voice (act) to make it believable. Most people can not do this or every game would have amazing and diverse voice acting.

However, I do agree that even the same voice actors could at least try to make their own voice sound different for different characters.

I was just meaning everyone sounds a little to professional sounding. The acting part comes in to make it sound natural. But there's no normal sounding people. I was just being sarcastic.

Yea, it was just a little weird.

Believe me, when a non-professional voice actor tries to voice act, you notice. "Professional" voice actors don't sound like they're acting at all.

I'd like 3-4 different voices for each race/six. That would total around 80 actors, plus 20 actors for unique important npcs, 100 good actors at the price of one Star Trek guy. They can be found in theatres if you want professional quality for decent price or at Hollywood if you want to throw money out the window.

Voice actors is the one department that Bethesda really needs to make a step forward with. Fallout 3 had a good range, so I have high expectations for Skyrim.

I use to really like the gravely voices of the Dunmer in Morrowind. It was a little disappointing to have the Bosmer men sounding like the Dunmer and Altmer men. Another thing that would be nice is to have some continuity to the accents on the races (ie. Imperial men vs. Imperial women... No Brit accent vs. Brit accent...) If I can't have a large line up of voice actors galore, at least don't waffle with the accents. I don't think that's asking too much.

I don't care about the voice acting just so long as they don't have someone talking like Moira.

This is true. It drives me crazy when I hear or see bad acting. :flame: And the voice actors in Oblivion were all talented, but i agree there needs to be more diversity. And more random comments would be nice, too.

I liked Moira

But yeah, need some more diverse voice acting. On a side note, why does gamesas hire big actors to play characters that dissappear after the beggining (I'm looking at you Oblivion and F3)

They're budget seems bigger for this game. Graphics and everything seem much more detailed, not just because it's new. The attention to detail and diversity in the previews seem better than ever. I just hope that diversity spreads to voice acting...
