More Factions

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 6:57 pm

A Champion League, an elite group of renown heroes. They go out and fight injustice throughout Tamriel. Oh, and they have a tower called the Overlook Tower and it's floating in Oblivion. Their members are a princess, a shapeshifter, a guy with a super enchanted ring, a stealthy guy in a cowl, an archer, a fast guy, an underwater king, and a super guy...

... but seriously I want a Justice League -ish type faction. Reserved for all of us Paragons of virtue, duty, honor, and justice.

Joining the Legion would be cool. Also an independent Mercenary group that is more about the money than the Fighters Guild a la Blackwood Company.
Two rival theives guilds would be nice, as well as rival assassins guilds. Plus depending on how the civil war hashes out (Imperial vs separatists or Kingdom vs Kingdom for control of Skyrim) to be able to join/oppose these factions would be awesome.
Though Im sure Bethesda could be more creative than i ever could.

I didn't see any "new" factions on this list. All of them were factions in Oblivion. Except for the Morang Tong which was from Morrowind.

So I will suggest my own. I think a new faction that would be really cool is factions that would be the skyrim equivalent of Morrowinds houses (Hlaalu and Telvanni as examples)

I'd like to see more factrions, and more faction rivalry/politics too. You just know that the fighters guild is gonna send a raid in against those pesky mages one of these days. :P

I'd like a Ranger type guild where you wonder the woods and protect a certain border of skyrim or a town

I'm surprised more people didn't vote for the Morag Tong... Since the Dark Brotherhood has been confirmed for Skyrim, and the Morag Tong is/was their greatest competition, it would be a very epic questline for those two factions.

Though, I am doubtful if they even exist anymore after the events in Morrowind, considering where their headquarters was.

EDIT: Necromancers!! Yes!

Definitely more than in OB.

Out of the ones you listed, I voted for necromancers and IL. I think that the necromancers should be like a cult (a bit like the DB from OB). I think that the IL should just be some scattered outposts and small forts (they should be extant but not ubiquitous).

Morrowind has been completely overrun by the Argonians and most of the Dunmer have been wiped out. The remaining Dunmer population is living in Skyrim as refugees, so it is highly plausible that the Morag Tong would be present and attempting to assert itself in its new home. In fact, I would love it if both the Morag Tong and the Dark Brotherhood were present and you had to choose one or the other and fight for dominance over the other one.

The Morag Tong should have been all but wiped out with the [censored] of Vvardenfall. The Tong were also not well suited for competing with the Dark Brotherhood out side of Morrowind. They operated inside the law and flourished within Morrowind, whereas the Brotherhood operated outside of the law and had an established underground presence everywhere else. I find it too hard to believe that the Morag Tong could just take over a new area after all of their organization was wiped out after the creation of the Scathing Bay and the invasion by the Argonians. Although I will concede it is possible that they have some small presence amongst the Dunmer refugees.

The main gist of my post though was to point out how ridiculous the poll is. While it's possible for the Tong to be in Skyrim, I think it's really unlikely. And the other suggestions in the poll I think are rather inane.

There is no need for new factions (well new ones but not 2 Fighters Guilds) as long as the existing ones are done right and hopefully have infinite amount of random generated Guests.

A well thought out vampire faction could own all IMO. In Morrowind you can see they started in that direction but it didn't quite pan out. I want to see powerful ancients and a hierarchy of sorts. Beth seems to shy away from giving vampires any real spotlight, though.

I liked having houses like you did in Morrowind. Give it a bit of a local/political aspect, would also fit very well with the civil war going on.

My exact thoughts. Given the impending outbreak of civil war, having several political houses/parties/factions would be brilliant. It would really give the game an even more realistic an brutal atmosphere, with lots of political intrigue and conspiring, maybe even blossoming into outright war sometime during the main quest.

Only old ones if they fit the setting. Otherwise, invent new ones to take their place.

^^^^^ That would be sweet.

The role (and number) of factions in Skyrim should be modeled off Morrowind. Morrowind had a large number of guilds, catering for any kind of character. There were the Fighter's, Mages and Thieves Guilds. The Legion. The three Great Houses. Temple, Imperial Cult, Morag Tong. I'm probably missing heaps more. And also many factions had 'rival' counterparts, and this conflict usually formed the main plot in guild quests. This combination of foreign Imperial factions and native factions + political parties really made it feel like you were playing in a realistic, established world where lots of people had some sort of loyalty or interest. I'm not saying Skyrim needs the exact same guilds, just their rough equivalents. Don't go down the Oblivion path and have only 4 main factions, 1 for each kind of specialization (stealth, magic and combat).

I think some of the most important factions to include would be political factions of some sort, given the precarious political climate in Skyrim at the onset of the game (the king murdered, alliances being made as people make a claims for the empty throne). It would only be logical and in my opinion really emphazise this uneasy and dangerous situation taking place.

I'd rather have not too many and have more in depth content of the existing ones including rivalries with other guilds, fighters vs thieves, mages vs necromancers etc.

Um, what's with the poll. Morag Tong weren't in Skyrim, they're strictly a Morrowind group. You shouldn't be able to join them. The Mythic Dawn were the big bad last game; 1. Why would they still be around? 2. Why should you be able to join them?
Same with the Blackwood company. The PC destroyed them in Oblivion, why would they exist 200 years later?

I'm all for a few new guilds as long as they fit the lore...

For Morag Tong you can make an argument. Morrowind has been mostly destroyed and taken over by lizards, so the Tong have to open up shop in neighbouring Skyrim.
