No more grabbing objects?

Post » Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:38 am

So sprinting is confirmed for skyrim, i think its going to replace the interact with objects button for skyrim, (on consoles at least) because there is no room on a standard controller for that. I am sorry if this has been discussed before or is redundant. Does anyone know if this has been confirmed or stated in any way?

Why not just left thumbstick pushed in sprint like cod?

leaping to the conclusion that we can't interact with objects is a little crazy too bruh

no room?
Let's see.
1 cross pad (4 buttons). 4 triggers, start and reset button, 4 "action buttons", two anolog stick with buttons.
We have
Menu, shortcuts, stealth, sprint, hand 1, hand 2, move, look, jump.
Hmmm yep, can't find room anywhere on the 10 free buttons.

1 cross pad = 8 buttons. Have you played on a console before? Up, Down, Left, Right, and every diagonal in between. Though, they wouldn't make sprint one of these...

Well diag count as button combination, not really one button by itself, though it has it's own function.
In that case let's count a+b (or square + cross whatever), a+c, ...
But I don't think it will be sufficient to fit a grab function though! Not enough!

That would be a terrible idea, I hated that feature in Borderlands.

I think it'd be a great idea. I'm sure a few thousand (at least) other gamers feel the same way about sprinting that way.

That aside, why not have sprinting be activated by double pushing the thumbstick forward?

EDIT: The control scheme for Oblivion is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Controls By adding in dual wielding, they've made it so we don't need to use RB (right bumper) to cast magic, we just pull the trigger for which ever hand magic is assigned to. So that makes at least one button free to be used for something else.

Maybe it's my PC background talking, but I've always felt that any movement that's not just "faster" should be a toggle. If Sprint is just "like running but faster" then have it on the stick, but if it limits attacking or anything like that, it needs a modifier.

He means in stead of say holding down the C key to stay crouched all the time, most PC games allow the crouch key to act as a toggle. one press of the C key and you stay crouched reguardless, the same use to be true for when players could only walk and run, not sprint. you would have the option to auto run every where, however i dont believe his idea of a toggle for sprint will work seeing as it uses up stamina.

I thought RB was the button for dragon shouts.

Okay. That definitely wouldn't work for sprint. It's a short burst of speed. Not something the character can do indefinitely.

I think the closest thing I can compare what I think the sprint in Skyrim will be like, is using a nitrous boost in a racing game. I think it needs to be held, and you can't do anything except jump whilst sprinting. And it's limited. That's just how I think it would be implimented. Also, maybe sheild bash whilst sprinting would be cool. Like a super shield bash.

i agree ,i loved that feature even if it was hard to decorate whit it is better than just place a static item in a static possision.

Very good anology, you can use it until it's empty or stop and have more for later. However unlike the nitro I assume stamina slowly refills over time.
