More Horror elements in F:NV?

Post » Thu Nov 04, 2010 1:55 am

One of the main reasons I liked F3 was because I found it exceptionally creepy. I always thought of it more as a survival horror game then an RPG adventure game (or whatever you'd call it).

The parts I liked the most were the areas where the survival horror element was intentionally played up, like in the Dunwich building with it's subtle scripted events and most of Point Lookout.

Unfortunately, places like this were few and far between in F3. New Vegas looks awesome, but I haven't seen anything yet that looks particularly scary yet (I mean like the examples I pointed out)

So is anybody else hoping there are more Dunwich-type places in New Vegas?

Great avatar

I'm really hoping there are gonna be somekind of underground tunnels, kinda like the metro system... I always found it spooky to creep around in those places.
Vegas does use a number of flood-tunnels to control flash-flooding, and I recently read an article about the homeless community in Vegas, and how a whole sub-culture of indigant people live in the tunnels nearly year round. Something like that in game would please me greatly.

why not...
I also vote for darker areas that are pitch black, you can barely see, and causes your perception to be lowered by 3
It would make the night vision goggles more useful P=

I am but I don't want it to have anything with insects :goodjob: The Dumwich building was a nice place for me to have visited. The building area was pretty boring as I've already seen it more than once but the audio tapes and strange hallucinations that occurred in one part were nice touches.

I totally am, for me even when I first started playing F3, I thought the metro tunnels were pretty creepy, the way they made the ghouls act, but I hope they come up with something new to add a different element of of scariness..

The other thing I hope they add is the handcrafted locations and all of the dev placed little easter eggs all across the wast.. One of my favorite things in F3 was finding the corpses and skeletons in various states, it really went a long way to paint a picture of how desperate things were for some folks when they died, and I was really intrigued by all of that, I hope it returns..

Hopefully not. I was glad enough to stumble upon the ghoul mask in FO3.

NO NO, NO MORE METROS

I had enough of them being everywhere in the D.C. area of FO3.

Don't really care for creepy elements.
Not saying it's not fallout but it's not something I'm holding my breath for in a fallout game.
Think other things are more important.

But they said there's going to be lots of caves and stuff so I expect there to be some creepy moments.

Why not?

I've made characters in FO3 whose sole use was to explore the metro lines... Those make for some great sessions, deep inside a metro tunnel, stimpaks running out, carrying weight maxed, weapons all wearing out... and you still have to work your way back up to the surface.... I thought the metros were one of the places in FO3 where survival actually came into consideration.

But they also became rather repetitive.
"Oh, a metro, I guess there's going to be raiders or feral ghouls there*
*Goes down*
"Yup, I knew it"

They are dark, they look the same, it was cramped, and you had to go through about 4 to get anywhere in D.C

Maybe not metro systems, but definitely some sort of underground maze with creepy enemies that give you a shock. Just don't have the maze leading anywhere important.

If there is a town that thinks that ghouls are zombies then they definitely need this: http://failblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/fail-owned-prep-win.jpg?w=390&h=500

god yes, amen. I HATE the dunwich building. It's too damn creepy. I also hate the metro tunnels. Actually, I just hate ghouls in general. Something about them (ok, everything about them) just creeps me the hell out. The heartbeat-like sound of them running, their gutteral screams, their empty eyes and .. their speed. Man, they are just creepy. Now, before I even enter a tunnel or place where there might be ghouls, first thing i do is put mask on, second thing I do is switch my sterio to play music. No game sounds makes ghouls 60% less creepy.

I hate the creepy factor of Fallout 3. Deathclaws scared me at first too, untill I realized how awesome the dart gun is :D

Even civilized ghouls like Gob, Charon, Desmond, Tulip, Greta, Mr Crowley, Patchwork etc?

Especially the 'civilized' ones... Never trust a zombie to not go for your brain as soon as you let your guard down.
