More interesting map.

Do you think what Oblivion map was dull? What if those stupid fast travel markers were changed into small black and white images of castles and towns like in http://library.duke.edu/research/subject/guides/images/jewish_studies/map2.jpg ?
Please dicuss my idea!
And sorry for my bad english!

Like, the map map, as in not the world but the map where you look to see where everything is at? As long as it looks like a map you'd see in Skyrim I couldn't care less.

A colour map definently. All though modding the way the map looks is as easy as editing a photo.

Something better than what OB had, and I can't remember what Morrowind's map was.

My ideal would be a good, usable map:

1) Annotatable markers: let me add notes to the places I've been (Cave X - cleared on DD/MM/YY Boss loot unrecovered)
2) Able to add my own markers with notes (This bridge is an ambush)
3) Better topography, contour lines would be best, although the interval might be rediculous for the game.
4) Better representation of roads, buildings, etc.
5) Aw heck, just make it a USGS or military grade map. I favor practicality of aesthetics

My main concerns are 1-3

But,

It sounds like the map will be something like a googlemap or aerial shot. Should be interesting.

Regardin the OP's map, that'd be usable, and an interesting url in there as well!

IMO they should just go for making a map that seems as authentic as possible within the cultures and societies that they've created.

I thought the Oblivion map looked fine. It was nice in appearance, and you didn't have cities drawn like that because an actual city layout was featured.

EDIT: Coloured would be nice though and I certainly would not mind a different style.

Ofcourse I'd like a better map, though OB one was comfortable (except for the over-exaggerated zoom in...), I'd like to see something more in the lines of artistic, yeah, something like MW had. It really is a beautiful map.

I liked the look of the Oblivion map but it was set up terribly.

I would like floor selection in caves/buildings etc, so it's easy to keep track of where I am/has been and can find my way out. Icons for doors/stairs etc, that show up while I explore.

The world map was fine in Oblivion but I would like to fit it on screen (a problem for people with old and/or small tv's. Could be an option).

i voted yes, but i personally would like to see the map as a view from the stars type deal, rather then a physical looking map a geographical type map which as you hover over things with the pointer stuff happens, but also this would be toggled.

I think I heard that it will be a aerial view map where everything is viewable in 3D , much like Fable 3's map. Even though when I'm playing skyrim I don't want to be reminded of fable 3 at all. :)

An old worn map is really nice for an RPG, so I'm a little disappointed to be honest that they got this geographic map?
But I can't even be fully disappointed to be honest here as well, since I haven't even seen it yet.

Still, from the sounds of it, I'd prefer a nice, old worn map.

Morrowind's map was kinda annoying, but simple. Oblivion's was simple and boring, but guess what...IT'S A MAP! It don't have to be exciting. Morrowind's map did it's job, Oblivion's did it better. If they put in a copy paste Oblivion map, just change the region to Skyrim, it won't bother me. I like simple in a map. That way I know I don't have to guess what I'm going to.

I liked the morrowind version, where it looked like oblivions at first, then walking around revealed more of it into a satelitte map. It's cool to see, and adds a little bit of fun for exploring.

I would prefer to not be able to access a map until I go buy one from a shop. And the maps should look like actual maps, including the paper on which the cartography is drawn. Some should look new, some should look old. And there should be many different maps, like some local ones and then some regional ones. That would be so much more immersive. I don't like how the Player knows exactly where they are and which direction they're facing. The Player should have to buy a compass or something and a map to know where they are and what direction they're facing. Well, the compass probably shouldn't be required, though it would be nice for aesthetics. But a map, definitely. Part of the fun of TES games is getting lost in the world. And nobody is born with a world map engraved into their brain.

Good idea about teh map & compass. I hope it's like this, but I somehow doubt it (seeing what we learned from the GI-article about the interface, and seeing how Bethesda previously has handled this).
It's an idea perhaps not too easy to come up with just like that. Would be extra nice if Bethesda saw this for that reason. It's a neat little idea :P

Their was a mod for Oblivion which i liked, and what it did was color the map, like hot areas would be yellow and cold areas would be white and vegetated areas would be green....

I wouldn't mind a map you can buy which is inter-changeable like that, but i don't really love the concept of forcing us to have this type of map...

I really liked the way Morrowind's in-game map worked: I liked the fact that the world map indicated which areas had been explored by filling them in with full color.

As for a paper map, I would like to see one that fits the culture of the world we're inhabiting - as if someone there handed you a map when you arrived.

1st, your character was alive before this point, surely they woulda bought map and compass already.
2nd, there is magic. All characters could conceivably be born with a map engraved into their brain. Sounds like a simple illusion spell, if you really need an explanation of why the HUD is in a game for immersion factors.
Next we'll be asking for completely different storylines so we don't have to explain how we know exactly what'll happen when on our additional playthroughs.
