2-more landmines = claymore

Don't step on the land mine and you have nothing to worry about.

Eactly my point and with operatives being able to put them on your mark when they mark them and them sticking out like neon signs to them I see no reason for them not to be OHK to enemies unless its something like a Heavy. This gives advantges to being a heavy verse light.

Not as visible if you don't have the Op to mark them.

And if they're close enough to detonate, but hidden well in a corner nearby, you could do evil, evil things.

Also, explosives are already a knockdown weapon, and when someone's down, you can one-hit melee incap them.

Normally, you can only set one mine at a time. There is a skill that lets you place two though. Still, that a maximum of 2 mines per Engineer. There will most likely only be a handful of them at any one time. So it's not like there's going to be mines all over the place, and if you have a good Operative spotting for you they shouldn't be much of a problem, normally.

Where did you get this info good sir?

IDK about the effectiveness of mines, seeing as about, oh, 50% of new players will be Light Operatives. I know I wanted to be one when I started. Over time, I started liking the Engineer more and more, and now it's going to be my main character. But I am leery to invest my Abilities in mines and turrets because I know the hordes of newbies that will lust after the "ninja assassin" character concept and by the nature of the class, compromise any mines or turrets I may place, and therefore I just wasted Ability spots, time, and supply pips.

Food for thought.

That is why I plan I plan on dual specing operative/engineer.

Can't remember where I heard it, but I'm pretty sure I did... Take it with a grain of salt for now though, to be safe.. I do know that Engineers have an ability that increases their mine capacity though, so it is logical to assume that they start out only able to set down very few at a time.

Even stepping on a mine doesn't necessarily mean you are dead. it appears mines can be disarmed when triggered, like in W:ET, based off this line from Chris Sweetman in a recent interview:

"For Brink I decided to let the dynamic mission auto-pvssyr handle most of that work. For instance, the Medic is the only one who will hear people shouting for a Medic, while an Engineer is the only class who hears "I'm stuck on a mine."

Lol put a mine at a ledge where a light can climb up to and right when he grabs hold of the ledge and pulls himself up-

BAM!!! He goes falling all the way down.

1 seems too small. 2 seems better to me but who knows?

Heh its the stepping off the mine will kill you. I wonder if their is an activation noise so you know you stepped on a mine?

Most likely - There was a trigger sound in W:ET, but it wasn't blatant. You had to listen for it.

Which if this is true then there should be no reason Eng mines are not OHK. There are so many mechanics in place for classes to keep other classes in check that if landmines were OHK and you died it wouldn't feel cheap. It would mean certain classes are not doing there job properly or you were not paying attention. Either way would be fair not to mention if you came across a match where you were having problems with landmines just adjust to the situation and switch to an Operative to mark them for your team and counter that situation

Easy way to clear a minefield:

- Choose Heavy Medic
- Choose the Battle Hardened and Self Rez skill
- Receive Life Buff 2, Adrenaline and Fleet of Foot from friendly Medic
- Run through minefield, use Self Rez if necessary.

You could also just toss a nade into them.

I did hear a dev say that mines will be the closest thing to a OHK.

Or just use an operative to mark and engineer to clear, but your way works too. Also if engineers are only allowed 1 or 2 mines I don't think there will be fields of mines.

Adrenaline would do the trick for sure.

Thats the thing there isnt going to be a mind field considering there will have to be a balance of classes for a team to even stand a chance. Which means there will only be a couple of engineers each match which can only lay down x amount of landmines which can be countered by Operatives and even if stepped on defused.

With all this taken into account tell me one reason a mine shouldnt be a OHK?

It really is stupid if mines are NOT OHKs! I mean really, if you watch where you step, you don't die. If you don't watch, you do die. The mine and the engineer deserve the kill in this case. Please be a OHK!

And don't say it's like sniping, because where getting sniped isn't always the victim's fault, walking onto a mine is.

Adrenaline + Self res = no more minefield.

BOOM! "Didn't hurt"
BOOM! "I meant to do that"
BOOM! "Toasty warm!"
BOOM! "Ow"
BOOM! *self res* "Well that went smoothly..."

Self Resurrection would save you from a mine, but still I believe a mine should kill a Medium, if not a Heavy in a OHK.

Why should it be? If grenades aren't a OHK, melee strikes aren't a OHK, sniper rounds aren't a OHK, and HSs aren't a OHK, why should mines be a OHK?

What's the reasoning for a mine to be a OHK when compared to all the other things that could be but aren't?

Agreed. If mines were OHK, guess what the most overplayed/abused class would end up being?

I don't.

The game's too fast paced to be sure you'll always see where you're going.

OHK on a Light, same as Long Rifles and things, I'm ok with, but nothing else.

And Adrenaline (temporary invulnerability) could get you through a few mines before it wears off and all the damage hits at once. Then you self-res.

Because it is an ability and with all the counter measures put in place it balances it out. If they are not OHK there really is no purpose to an Engineer even using them seeing as it would be a waist of your ability meter, leave you vulnerable planting it and would not have any reward for the risk.

No more of a waste than a grenade/molotov which can't even OHK a Light.

I think it should be for atleast light and mediums. You have to take into account both body types can be buffed with health and armor to be like a heavy not to mention operatives spot and marking them along with being able to be defused if stepped on. There really is no reason for it not ot be a OHK otherwise it is a useless ability. For some reason people are quick to shout mines being OP but with all the checks and balances in bring for classes and there abilities I dont see mines being an issue at all and with that should atleast do there job so there is a reason to be used.
