2-more landmines = claymore

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:18 am

I have read that you can have landmineS

I know that it has been announced that there ain't no one shot things in brink, but what if you have 2 engineers laying down landmines on the exact same spot, won't this be like claymores?

Do you think they will include an anti to prevent this? Maybe not being able to place landmines close to each other?

I was thinking that this might be exploited by people to defend remote places that operatives have to get acces to, seeing as they are most likely to have ligt body type, then they might get killed very easy.

How do you think they will anti this?
Do you think they want there to be a claymore?

If you just stack them on the objective?
If there is a way to hack turrets/mines and so on, then I'm close to 100% sure that there will be an ability for engineer making his machines unhackable - sadly

im not worried, im like 80% sure you can shot and destroy them, and if they're close they'll all go up at once and you'll prob only have 1-2 at a time

No, but there is an ability that makes them take longer to hack. Mine's can probably be destroyed.

Mines can indeed just be shot to blow up. At least when they are spotted & marekd by an Operative.

Does marking a mine take one of the Op's pips? or is it just automatic upon aiming at one?

I don't know. I guess you have to aim at it for a second.

I doubt it. Should just be automatic when you aim at it.

I wonder how that's going work out. Ops on offense are probably going to be flanking, so they won't necessarily be there to look out for mines. The Heavy Op might indeed be an important role.

WAIT! I just thought of a great way to kill operatvies, or any light. If they need to climb up to a crane control, you can place the mine on the roof, hopefully there is a wider mine range perk to help this idea be more effective.

Which means you would need to be a light to plant the mine up there.

I did this all the time with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

Engineers need to build a brigde? [censored]tons of mines there.
Spies need to hack my generator? 10+ mines on the console.
Enemy needs to drive a giant truck? Guess which truck got mines planted all over the wheels.

I don't see a reason Eng mine wouldnt be OHK. It's not like people cant spot them or Operatives can't mark them for his entire team to see I mean its not like anything like that is in place in Brink to make sure they are put in check. Come on now seriously with all the systems in place to keep them in check if someone does step on one they should die. Eng can only lay them down and with all the mechanics in place to put them in check I see no issue with them being OHK.

Also I havent heard anything about if they disappear when the Engineer dies I know they will if they switch classes but what about when they die. If so there shouldn't be any reason for them not to kill someone.

Engineer is one of four classes, and mines are one of many optional abilities, usually, there aren't going to be more than 2 engies with mines on one team, besides, two mines killing someone isn't a one shot kill, it's a two shot kill, and what's more, (assuming you can only have one mine at once) it's a teamwork kill.

Normally, you can only set one mine at a time. There is a skill that lets you place two though. Still, that a maximum of 2 mines per Engineer. There will most likely only be a handful of them at any one time. So it's not like there's going to be mines all over the place, and if you have a good Operative spotting for you they shouldn't be much of a problem, normally.

IDK about the effectiveness of mines, seeing as about, oh, 50% of new players will be Light Operatives. I know I wanted to be one when I started. Over time, I started liking the Engineer more and more, and now it's going to be my main character. But I am leery to invest my Abilities in mines and turrets because I know the hordes of newbies that will lust after the "ninja assassin" character concept and by the nature of the class, compromise any mines or turrets I may place, and therefore I just wasted Ability spots, time, and supply pips.

Food for thought.

Unless you use your turrets and mines as bait, and pick off the Light Ops one by one as they try to mess with your junk. :shifty:

Just gotta stay vigilant. Vigilance! VIGILANCE!

Don't step on the land mine and you have nothing to worry about.
