More luscious and detailed underwater environment?

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 11:45 am

I always thought that Oblivion had a really bland and boring underwater environment. Not very populated with fish or predatory creatures, lacking in vegetation and varied underwater terrain, and not enough secret underwater caves, passages, and dungeons. I think, especially since we even have a race with underwater breathing, that the underwater element of Skyrim should be more detailed. I know there are streams now with salmon and the potential for fishing. But I would love to see more realistic looking ponds and lakes. They should be full of life in this game. There should be more hidden underwater artifacts and caves that we can enter and explore, instead of just the odd fingleam and one cave like Oblivion. I would also like the game to include an awesome mythical water monster living underwater as a quest that you have to slay. Maybe an underwater dragon, or something entirely different, like the Loch Ness Monster.

So, what do you guys think!

I do believe it will be a lot more detailed than Oblivion. Not sure about Loch-Skyrim-Ness Monster though.

I think this would potentially be an awesome in-game quest though. Picture a mortified citizen runs up to you saying their brother or something got eaten by this huge monster in the water while he was fishing. You have to do your research, and find clues to discover it's location. It all ends in a huge underwater battle!

Please, no underwater quests. I haven't played a game yet in the past 20 years where being underwater was fun.

Sadly, quest marker will probably do this for us...

I'd certainly like a more detailed undersea world, but being that this is the north, "lush" might be a little much. It shouldn't be brimming with vibrant reefs or sights that belong to more tropical climates.

Definitely want to see more undersea life than Oblivion though, and of course a sea dragon would be awesome :)

I like to find stuff underwater as well.

When I clicked on this topic however I thought it said, "More luscious and detailed underwear environment?". I'm thankful I was mistaken.

I'd probably have to agree with this. Underwater is almost never fun. Not saying that if they did it right it couldn't be fun, but I have yet to see any RPG with underwater battles that were fun. Monster Hunter Tri was close, but even with all the work they put into it; it's still much more fun to fight on land. But, given that Argonians can breathe underwater, which is a largely underutilized skill, I would hope that they improve the underwater environments for the sake of those who want to roleplay that kind of character.
