More modern diseases that could have been added in Skyrim.

Okay. We're all aware that there are diseases in both Skyrim and Oblivion. I've noticed Vampires carry a disease and animals. But people that you meet on the street in Whiterun or any where else do not.

But lets say for instance like in Fable where you could sleep with your spouse or lover that you're character has a relationship with. Lets say you get temporary health or experience bonus's from that spouse but also lets think that some NPC's carry diseases that you can contract.

Much like you would from animals in Skyrim.

Imagine you can get a horrible disease from sleeping with someone you married in Skyrim or had a one night stand with. This disease saps 200 pts of your of HP, Magic, Stamina or causes other bad effects.

Say your character contracts some modern day STD and has to do a quest to get cured of that illness.

I wonder why something like this was never thought of.

Thoughts on this anyone?

That would get old after the first time it happened.

And there shouldn't be a cure for some of them, that wouldn't be immersive ;) Personally I don't like that in Skyrim some actions are reversible (vampirism can be cured for ex.)

I've never enjoyed getting a disease in a game and doubt I ever would.

Sounds good in theory, but in practice I'm sure it would just be irritating. I like the idea of being able to have one night stands though.

Actually it would be cool if you could unknowingly contract a disease from a one night stand that then killed your wife, lol. Like that was the risk you ran having one night stands. But I hate just being made weaker or slower or whatever, that just svcks and needs to be cured asap.

I think it would be a bit too much to ask.

Too much things to worry about could take away from the whole fantasy and adventure aspect. The Elder Scrolls isn't our world, we don't always have to focus on making it more like ours.

Immersion is nice, definitely. But it doesn't have to get to the point that it becomes tedious. This is just my opinion ofcourse, and I'm more than sure that plenty of people disagree.

Yes, remove the diseases as they are nothing more than irritating.

Here's one possible reason it might not have been implemented, strictly from a development perspective. Wolves, skeevers, and even falmer I can brush off as being "carriers" - they can transmit all kinds of diseases without necessarily manifesting signs of the disease itself. However, if my character catches a disease from a human, that would suggest that the transmitting human also has the disease, so I'd expect to see some outward sign of it. That would mean new skins, sounds, and/or animations for NPCs for each disease, which could get pricey. Whether the immersion is worth the price is subjective.

It would also raise the question as to whether epidemics should be a feature of the game, whether your diseased character risks being quarantined, etc. May not seem like so much of an issue, but if human-transmitted disease were a thing, I'd bet good money that people would declare the absence of epidemics and quarantines counter-immersive and the disease system half-arsed...

Yeah, that would be cool to see things like Ebola, Small Pox, or an NPC experiencing some sort of fictional disease like the sanguinare vampiris virus before they turn.

I mean with sanguinare vampiris, have them showing severe symptoms like bleeding or something.

Yeah, that would be cool, the doctors in a bird masks during a plague (has anyone played https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathologic ?) . I'd like to sort out two kinds of diseases - a one that can be (and must) cured, that really hurt and something that can't be lol, i mean something not very annoying, like a scar

I agree, it's also why I stay away from mods like frostfall and the realistic needs, it ends up being way to tedious for my liking. :)

What it would be neat is seeing some NPCs go through the progress of some of the in-game diseases, like vampirism, for them to be changing their schedule as it goes on. :)
