More muscular builds for Nords and Orcs

Post » Sat Jan 29, 2011 7:41 pm

Okay, this is a minor nitpick, and I'm sure Bethesda is already working on it, but I just wanted to put a post up (didn't see any others on the subject, I apologize if there are).

Please, give Nords and Orcs (and possibly Redguards) more muscular builds! I think the characters' bodies worked for most of the races, but the Nord and Orc just felt very... off. Given their rather muscular facial structures, these races are entitled to some slightly thicker builds. Nothing over the top, mind you, but enough that they look more physically imposing that your average Wood Elf.

Here's an example of what I mean:

You see the guy sitting the other side of the table? Or the guy standing behind him? That's the sort of body style (and hair and beard, strangely enough) I would like to be able to play as. That, coupled with the set of Daedric Armor, or even some Viking-like armor, would be Godsend.

Also, in terms of the Orc faces, I'd like to see some options like this; though obviously, green:

The pics in the GI magazine show warriors with conan like muscular appearances.

I support this.

Also kajits need to be bigger than all other races.

this picture is manly as all hell. i wonder if radiant story will allow for starting huge brawls in taverns.

also the magazine says something about being able to customize your body type, too, and the pictures we've seen so far of the human PC showed he was mad ripped, so it's probably safe to assume you'll be able to make yourself crazy buff.

In the GI article it said you could edit your character's build, not just your face.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this Khajiit are ment to beable to move through tighter situations that is why they are given advanced stealth skills.

Hopefully it's sliders: width, height, tone
Best would be if there are sliders for: arms, legs, torso

So you can have long arms and short legs and whatnot.
All I know is look at how developed spore is. Same goes for smithing our weapons.
Should be able to shape them cuz it's possible (spore, magic pengel)

Doubtful since that would require a lot of work to make every single armor item in the game fit every possible body type without major clipping issues .

That's what I figure, too. But at the very least, having a single additional "Muscular" body type shouldn't be *so* much work, I wouldn't think.

I suggest you look at your avatar... Now look at some other screenshots from GI. Clearly different builds have been added.

I don't want everyone to look like they are on steroids, nor do I want to see TES Orcs turned into stereotypical always angry super ugly monsters.

True, but given Orcs have always been super-ugly, they should at least do so in a more badass way. Morrowind really had some great Orc-styles to choose from (though their bodies, even then, seemed a bit thin). Oblivion, however... they just looked bad. Nothing about them seemed particularly imposing. Likewise, Nords felt really bizarre; most of them had really weird facial structure, with *huge* noses in most cases, and their bodies seemed far too "delicate" for their heritage and culture, to me.

I stand by my suggestion, though, to give Nords and Orcs larger builds. Like I said, nothing over-the-top, but these are meant to be really rugged races; not just athletic, but also physically powerful.

I've heard that you should be able to change body type.... *Thinks of a Bosmer that looks something like Conan* Now that would be funny....

Given the overall excellence of Oblivion, it was a little disappointing for every character to have exactly the same body. It will be awesome if we can make a short & fat or a tall & skinny guy. Or tall & fat.

It is my, and quite a few other people on this forum's understanding from reading the article that you will be able to customize your body type. Whether that will be selecting certain "types" or something more akin to facegen but for bodies is yet to be determined.

I second that. I see them as nimble, stealthy cat-creatures. They should be 5'-ish agile little critters. Argonians on the other hand could well be bigger.

As @idon'tunderstand points out. They are both, depending on sub-species. :) http://www.imperial-library.info/content/khajiit-physiology-phases-and-forms
I personally hope to be able to choose sub-species in Skyrim to a certain degree. Obviously you shouldn't be able to play as a Senche.
I think Suthay-Raht, (morrowind) Suthay, Cathey-Raht (similar to Suthay-Raht but larger. Described as jaguar men) and Cathey (who are even stronger then Cathey-Raht but shorter.) would be awesome. I would definitely play as a Cathey-Raht. :icecream:

Well the removal of attributes and the body customization gives us complete freedom over what we want our character to be.

Either a scrawny Orc mage, or a super buff altmer warrior. Greater creative freedom!

Well...
I want variety.
I certainly wouldn't want all orcs and nords to be muscular.
Variety is the keyword I think.
So let some people for races be muscular, let some be "normal", let some be more skinny? :)

And since when were Nordic people the uber Gods of athleticism? All the other men besides the Bretons are decently figured as well.

You can customize your body... so it's up to you to decide wheter or not your character will be bulk or slim.

Like stated in most similar threads, different races should have different thresholds. But please keep the length strictly related to race, otherwise we'll have a hard time trying to tell the difference between some, like Bretons and Imperials and Nords.
