More music categories

Oblivion had 4 music categories: Battle, Dungeon, Explore, and Public

It would be nice if Skyrim had more music categories.

Perhaps flesh out the existing categories

Battle:

Weak enemy
Strong enemy
Boss enemy

Dungeon:

Cave
Fort
Ruins
Dwemer

Explore:

Mountains
Tundra
Forest
The Reach
Snow

Public:

Minor City
Major City
Castle
Tavern
Inn

Each category should have a different sound and feel to them.

I would like some singing (like in the trailer) in some of the songs as well... perhaps for the strong enemy or boss enemy soundtrack.

I really hope they've gone in this direction with the music. It adds hugely to the atmosphere of an area for it to have its own theme.

In all likelihood, this sort of thing would lead to each region having only 1 piece of music. And when I'm exploring a region, I'd like to hear more than 1 piece of music.

My only request for music in Skyrim is to have a remix of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-UZ3i5pYW4 (not the main theme) from Morrowind.

Another problem, along with what Inglar said, is that if there's different music for all those regions, the music would change WAY too often! You would never be able to listen through one song before it changes again. (Unless your standing still^^)

The music should finish playing then the new music starts.

What a great game - and this is such beautiful music.

- this has made me want to? play Morrowind again.

. . . that says something about Bethesda. Elder Scrolls games stick with you, I don't want to anolyze why, I just know that they're unforgettable.

A special music category for fighting dragons, now that is something that'd make sense IMO.
I mean, why not make it feel even more epic?..

2 songs?
Oblivion actually have quite a few song (27 to be exact), the only problem really, is that there's not special occasion-songs.

My only problem with the battle music in the past Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind and Oblivion) was it just got annoying popping up every time I fought a damn mudcrab.

The only time I think there should be battle music is when it's quest oriented, like boss battles or epic scenes and things like that. Considering that I hope they upgraded the way the music works on their new engine, in Oblivion it was just not versatile at all.

I hope for something as dynamic as Daggerfalls system, but then again it was probably easier to achieve in that game because they were just using MIDI rather than actual mp3's.

New Skyrim info! Video producer killmoms officially confirms that The Creep (feat. Nicki Minaj & John Waters) isn't part of the vanilla Skyrim soundtrack! :geek:

Totally agreed ! :tops:

And as I said already in this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1176144-the-music/:

Game music is very important for me, too. But what really matters the most is the "music-play-system", which defines, what music is played to what time / in what location / on what occation, etc. (what I so far heard of J. Souls music is perfect for the game already, imo)

But the best would be, imo, if the music- / playsystem would not only be triggered by locational values, but by a sort of time-based values as well. Let me explain: I would find it even more awsome, if (in addition to the suggestions above) each major city, dungeon, etc. would have its own, unique titel-music (such as the Morrowind- / Oblivion title) which is played only at the first approach of the player entering this location and some time / countering (like every 5., 10. ... entering of the player) afterwards, but in between would be replaced by the remaining tracklist-titles of the corresponding location.
Wouldn't this be great ? This way you would have an (musicaly-) exciting first approach of the most important locations, but wouldn't get bored by its repitition (like especially in Morrowind ... despite it's the best Fantasy-RPG-titlemusic I ever heard, imo :tes: ).
And especially in Skyrim this shouldn't be very complicated / timeconsuming to implement, I guess, since the Radiant-Story system should already keep track of what / where the player character does something and to what time / repition. A kind of "Radiant-Music-System", so to speak.

In all likelihood, this sort of thing would lead to each region having only 1 piece of music. And when I'm exploring a region, I'd like to hear more than 1 piece of music.

Well, it only depends on how many tracks are in the game as a total amount. If there are enough, it would be no prob to give each category enough tracks (possibbly expanded through some "silent-time") to be not so repetitive (= boring).

I would love this. I mean, Oblivion's music was fantastic, but there wasn't enough variety.

Alternatively, they could have several "common" tracks and 1 unique track for each region. When you're in a region, you'll hear the common tracks and the region's unique track.

As long as they make music heaps easier to mod than in Oblivion. The preset hard-coded music categories and the idiotic script function StreamMusic is a massive pain and inherently makes it hard to make a quality story-driven mod, like an expansion.
