No more power ranger armour? = WIN.

I believe the green glass will be making a return. Criticising the glass armor for being neon-green is like criticising Ebony armor for being Black, or Steel armor for being Metallic Grey. It's the confirmed natural color of the material. You can criticize the design all you want, but honestly, I thought Oblivion's glass armor looked pretty nice, except for the helmet.

But it's difficult to get helmets to look right (My favorite Oblivion helmet was the Steel Barbute)

And for those wanting realistic armors... do we really want a return of Oblivion's Chainmail Coif?

I actually enjoyed all of Oblivion's armors except Daedric, Ebony (I prefer larger, fewer plates, but loved the color scheme), Female chainmail (Erg... too much skin), and Elven.

Of course... once you got past Leather in the Light Armors, none of them suited a Thief anymore :( . That was the real failing. But, they looked good for Skirmisher/scout types. A shame Medium Armor went away :/

Problem with glass is as you have noticed it's in theory best choice for thief, but in practice sneaking in it looks extremly stupid, maybe if glass could be covered with some robe(not possible in OB), ebony was ok imo but helmet looked out of place, should be closed one, maybe not model from morrowind, daedric also screwed in topic of helmet(why not those awesome war masks i ask), besides that I can accept other models, and what do you want from mail coif dude ;P ?

Yeah, thieves don't really look good in anything above leather armour. Maybe they should make some light (weather officially or just weightwise (they may not have armour skills) made out of some flexible, but very strong material, like the hide from some rare beast (dragon?).

I am pretty sure there will be some sort of dragon(hide/scale/skin etc) armor, I would also like to get rid of this strange heavy/light armor system, some items don't fit into it like mail - I would like to see someone try sneaking in it - its really loud and quite heavy, anyway what i have seen from early screens and artwork looks quite good and I think armor will look nice and match more gritty/realistic/nordic feel.

If you read the thread about the Gamereactor magazine, the OP posted the translation, "[Skyrim] is markedly different from competing games, where we get to see neon-sparkling armours and swords that could be mistaken for jewelry." Doesn't sound very encouraging for people wanting less fantasy-ish armours, but I'm confident that TES won't go over the top, especially since Todd himself said that J-RPGs are way over the top in an interview with Game Informer.

Personally, I liked the Roman look that the Imperial armour had in Morrowind, and I'm hoping it comes back in Skyrim, especially since one the magazines supposedly said that there were Imperial Legionaries watching over the pass to Morrowind in one of the cities.

Picture on the wall during trailer with people fighting gives me hope for more roman looking gear :) .

Iron and leather armor were my favorites in Oblivion.

I'm actually an upper level 20-something on my current character, and I still refuse to wear anything else. Most other armors just look silly.
I like realistic looking armor and color schemes. It's cool to have stuff like ebony and steel, though. They were acceptable :P

Actually, the Demon's Souls armor is some of my favorite i've seen in videogames.

I'm so glad the ES series are keeping it earthy and realistic. I don't want to play as a 8' giant with enormous shouldder pads and a neon-lazer-epic-2hand-which-is-a-one-handed-sword and a cannon on the other arm. That's too "super-fantastic" like Todd said in one of his interviews.

Go TES! Go devs! Go Bethesa!

I love you^ :)

Mmmm.

Demon Souls armors are very much based on existing ones (some are almost copied but it's good imo), ebony would look much better with closed helmet, current one destroys it's "heavy plate" feel, shame because rest of the set is rather nice.

I thought the http://images.uesp.net//d/da/OB-item-Orcish_Armor.jpg at least looked cool yet totally realistic.

EDIT: Except maybe the shoulder pads.

I did link this earlier, but this http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101201030430/avatar/images/0/06/Armor.png is a parody armour they made in an episode of Avatar that I thought was demonstrative of that exact mindset that some designers for games and TV, especially anime, had. I thought it was hilarious. They poked fun at anime quite a bit in that show.

I loved the Orcish armour, but by the time you had the full set everyone was already wearing ebony. :vaultboy:

I'd prefer they definitely keep away from goofy sized armor, and lean on the more realistic designs. They shouldn't go so much for the jousting armor look as Demon's Souls did though, not for people going around on foot. The whole thing about better combat armor is that better usually meant lighter, so you could have good protection with a low amount of weight.

I dunno. That armour looks kinda lame to me. But then again, I've never been a fan of that sort of plate armour.

Though this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:AfonsoI-P.jpg looks pretty neat for plate armour IMO.

They used it in morrowind, then they changed it in oblivion, it's skyrim so another change ;)?

Another nice piece http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:%D0%93%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%B4%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BF%D0%B5%D1%85.jpg gothic plate - imo looks much better than current steel armor - its gorget(piece protecting neck) looks sick :).

Yeah, I really hope they make the Imperials Roman again. now they are just the token medieval knights human race.

Some armour I'd like to see.

Yea, I prefer the more ancient armors than the whole Renaissance era full plate. Not that one or two armors couldn't look like that, but especially in Skyrim, I'd like to see more late Classical/early Medieval designs.

IMO, the Mithril armour from Oblivion looked quite a lot like some armour a Gondorian would wear, so there might be some hope for that if Mithril armour makes a comeback.

I still think we will see elaborate armours, it′s a fantasy world after all, and TES have it′s share of fancy armours threwout the series.

Yes, they have nice armor in TES but nothing like he is talking about. Most other fantasies have some kind of over the top armor or some futuristic/magic armor combination that looks odd. TES always has some low tech armor that still looks ornate and great. It's just one of the numerous things that make TES what it is.
