More problems with Youtube

Post » Sun Jan 31, 2016 10:30 pm

I mentioned Hickok45 being taken down a few weeks ago. Well, now the Nostalgia Critic has been experiencing problems as well. He′s not been taken down but for some reason he is now denied being payed for his videos. This guy (Doug Walker) does this for a living and has been around for years, and if this can happen to him then clearly something is very wrong. Not to mention Hickok with his close to 2 million subscribers.

Youtube keeps getting worse and I reckon if this goes on we′ll eventually stop seeing new content there because apparently anything can be taken down with no explanation and with no ability for the uploader to talk to a human being on Youtube since it′s all automated.

yeah, this has been happening for years, seems to getting more and more common though..

youtubes complaint and strike system is almost completely automated, which has been allowing it to be so easily abused for years..

if a person reviews just about any product (a game, movie, book, PC component) and the creator of that product doesn't like it because it paints it in a bad light, they can have it taken down even if everything in the video falls under fair use

likewise, if a person just doesn't like a video or the person who made it, there complaints can still cause backlash because the whole process is automated, which even causes trolls to just go around filing complaints on channels all day..

youtube really needs to find a way to fix this.. although, with how many videos are on youtube, I don't think it would be financially viable to employ a person to go through every single complaint..

StormCloudsGathering has also been hit with blatant biased censorship as well.

It discusses current events and Mr Hawkins uses his own specially composed, commissioned soundtracks, yet he's been nailed for copyright violation on them.

They've also gotten him for the topics of "war related activities", but its impossible to discuss geopolitical news(which is what he does) without discussing war, Russia, the European immigration crisis, etc.

YouTube is dumb sometimes.

I know Nostalgia Critic is having major issues as well as some people with gaming channels. This is getting out of hand either YouTube needs to rework its algorithms or the whole sight just needs to be sued or be taken down all together, no need to make people who use it to make a living suffer.

I Hate Everything got his channel taken down too, it's back up but it was never explained why it happened(he has a video on it).

Several other Channels big and small got hit as well.

I've had a couple of "content disputes" for some of the music I use in my videos and the "response choices" given for disputes svck. The canned responses rarely say why one disputes it. And they have no contact info on that page to explain why a YouTuber disputes the claim.

One that is foremost in my mind is the 30 seconds of a Louis Armstrong song (Hellzapoppin') used in a short video. That is a commercial in length. People are not downloading and getting that song for free as it is only 30 seconds of a 2+ minute song. There is no reason at all for them to dispute its use, especially as I do NOT make money from my YouTube channel. Can I tell them this? Not that I have found.

They can dispute its use as I did not get permission, but really? A little bit of a song that may entice viewers to actually seek it out and purchase it? Maybe I just don't think "corporate" enough :)

That′s me regarding both Bioshock (1 and 2) and Fallout 3. Watching gameplay footage on youtube made me buy those games.

I'm watching it right now, still I think YouTube needs to be sued to have its policy changed specially to the people who file false copyright claims.

That's the biggest issue, there is no punishment for people that put false copyright claims! And a lot of misinformation on what is fair use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5ZmVheuxpo

It is petty odd how a lot of channels were taken down in a short amount of time.

There are channels that had problems and I can't see how those problems would be related to copy right issues since the content is completely original. AlternativeHistoryHub had issues with getting paid for quite some time but it seems to be fixed now.

Just watched this. I′m glad he at least got his business back since it′s his bread and butter. He makes good content and I′m glad he doesn′t have to resort to do the bum character in real life.. :D

Thanks for sharing :)
