Ahh finally, a crash :P that took longer that expected.

Ok this time, i was flying across the landscape on my shadow drake, TOD was dawn or dusk or something like that. I was flying directly south straight towards the White Gold Tower.

I stopped halfway (took me ages, such high BSTASK counts X_X) and hovered or hanged in the air for a bit, tasks count slowly started to come down, FPS going back up, qtask got to around 25, then it just hung as if it was loading...and then the crash with the following error:

Which is a new one according to the others :S.

Man...I wish wondows would tell you exactly what was happening rather than these accursed binary figures.

IMO? I think AEVWD could be causing it. Also...has anyone else noticed that akatoshs mount mod, as soon as you start flying it...the console is MEGA SPAMMED with 100's of "Spell cast inntialized" messages? That cant be healthy >
I'm gonna try removing AEVWD and Akatosh, do a clean save...see if that helps.

Well...performance improved but, crashed even quicker after removing AEVWD.

Hey there.I just resently started to get a extremly frustrating game crash.annways heres some info about the crash.The game crashes every thime on fast travel from one place(dosent matter which place) to imperial city market district,also it started to happend in othere saves too.

I need to know how to get the extensive info.

OK...i think I know what could be the issue...the stupid amounts of console spam riding my akatosh mount produces...its endless "spell casting initialized".

Can someone please help me find a way to stop this from happening? As I reckon it's my main crash cause...(well 1 of them lol)

After installing the following mods :

Duke Patricks - Combat Magic.esp
Duke Patricks - Custom Melee Weapons Made Compatible.esp
Extended Imperial City Version 1.0.esp
Extended Skingrad.esp
Extended Chorrol.esp
Loth's Blunt Weapons for Npcs.esp

And uninstalling Enhanced Weather.esm and a couple of related .esp's I'm now getting a Crash on Start up with the following Application Error Message.

The instruction at "0x00497e10" referenced memory at "0x00000880". The memory could not be "read"


I usually start Oblivion through Wyre Bash.

Well am getting crashes but its just not OBLIVION since upgrading to a new home built system. Havent asked here since my me and my Brother inlaw are working on it. Rather fast i should say too thanks to my Brother inlaw being a master computer tech and earning 75,000+ a year thanks to his honed skills.

Will let you know how it turns out though. So far its leaning towards a power supply problem eventhough i thought 550watts would be plenty but thats when my Brother inlaw started talking about ampage and rails and how that can make a difference.

Thanks and hope this takes off as one more resource of very helpful problem solving.



Finally figured out it was a defective video card after a whole summer of trial and error testing with all the new hardware from my home built system. Its always in the last place one looks :D

At least all this trouble inspired me to get a better video card for our troubles which is a

That could be a background program like a virus scanner running a daily scheduled scan. You should check what background tasks you have running and if this is the case there should be someway to turn off or change the time the program is doing the interfering task.

Some new info some of you may find interesting...

Just recently, my 2x1 gigs of RAM buggered up, its a faulty pair from crucial which they ADMIT has been faulty from the start, but they've issued me a FREE new revised pair that's guaranteed to be faultless which is coming soon. Anywho enough of that, too the point.

Basically my comps NEVER been using 2048MB to their full potential, it been using around 1.5 because of the fault, and recently its been using 1 gig. Result? TONS more crashes to do with the faults but, get this.

I decided to try oblivion on another comp, with 4 diff RAM sizes in. one with 512MB. one with 1GB. One with 2GB, and one with 4GB. All of these RAM modules are duel channel and matched pairs.

Here's what I managed to find out with roughly the same mods.

QTP3R, AEVWD, 4096 LOD'S/Landscape Textures, Medium to strong custom noise filter "reduced" + 50% landmass geometry mod (not tried 75% version)

-512MB: Constant stuttering, barely movable, constant 0xC0000005 and 0x0011fe90 errors. Fine in dungeons, unplayable without fast travelling, a nightmare 400-600 BSTASK peak count >
-1GB: Less stuttering, movable outside for a while, transition 3 or 4 cells, then a crash. Near perfect in dungeons, no crashes apart from a script effect spell from sonia (I assume) crashing the game. Still unplayable outside in combat situations, 150-380 BSTASK peak count.

-2GB: MUCH less sturrering outside, only occasional stutter during akatosh flight and during extreme combat situations outdoors combined with a spam of script effects, totally playable outside, in and out of combat, random crashes when exploring areas still with similar error codes. Dungeons/citys/shops etc all fine 50-90 BSTASK count.

-4GB: Virtually ZERO stutturing ANYWHERE. Only crashes for seemingly random periods of constant world exploration, crash during essential NPC kill/unconcious state. Heaven in dungeos/indoors. Can fight around 20 npcs/creatures at once with no stutter or lag at all (well, an FPD drop of course but no obvious "lag"), sonia was left behind this time. Lag/stutter only occured when rendering MASSIVE custom zones/landmasses such as UL mods, volcanoe mods, silgrad tower, sometimes a short stutter after entering oblivion gates for the 1st time. Peak BSTASK 10-40-50.

So as you can see, taking the same path from bruma, to skingrad, to anvil round and through edges and across Cyrodiil...RAM seems to play a leading role here for majority of crashes/stutters/lag. The main crashes seem to result from an in-ability for the game/pc to constatly render masses of textures/LOD's/meshes etc "on-the-fly". The HDD activity light was on 100% all the time with 1GB and less, only around 50% with 2-4 gigs of RAM. Crash dumps with 1 gig and less seem to indicate 70% memory related error codes and 30% unknown error codes, and with 4gigs it was more like 0% memory and 30% "wtf?"

Now these "wtf?!" crashes is what we are interested in. I don't have the time to play a save game for 4 hours, add a mod, another 4 hours, add a mod etc etc to find the issue that way, but from what I was doing/ what was happening/ where I was/ and what it was, i've narrowed it down to a few POSSIBLE main issues besides memory:

-Custom spells/a-mass of script effects: This seem to be the majoirty of the 30%. In each case with companions, whenever they casted a powerful self heal spell or a powerfull silence spell, the game either lagged/crashed or did both. But it's not just companions, it seems to be any custom spell OR visual effect OR custom event/trigger/NPC engagement etc as well.

-The game engine it self: Something tells me the engine is NOT capable of rendering everthing on-the-fly including the AEVWD stuff, for example moving on a fast mount I.E. an akatosh mount, flying the dragon over the top tree's at full speed at a RAPID and near INSTANT pace as you might expect. Instead you just end up seeing the constant "loading area" message and seeing the BSTASK count shoot into the high 100's, the sheer stutter and lag as its trying to render all thi stuff so fast, then crash = engine is just not powerful enough to render it all at that speed even with 4 gigs + of RAM is what I reckon.

And finally

-Scripts in general: A lot of mods add awesome quests mods, weapons/companions/features etc...but with some serious drawbacks, (not mentioning any mods in particular *cough* akatosh mount *cough*). For example...the ENDLESS running of pointless background scripts, console spam, "lock player" scripts (those ones that prevent you from moving until an NPC/object/Item/Event engauges or disengauges you) all cause the game to go "wtf?!" and crash. Another prime example of some of these (sorry saiden storm) is again...akatosh mount. The relentless dumping of "Spell casting intialized" in the console seems to fill the temp log in the game directory when your flying the thing until you dismount it and sent it "home". This log reached around 18mb at one point :o! The awesome "castle ravenpride" mod has its issues with "locking" the player in place, only to find an event DOESN'T happen, this resulting in you having to kill your self. Or of the bit at the castle gate, your locked into convo with one of the NPC's, only to find his voice acting has gone/ the choives have gone, and his trigger to open the gate never happens, so as soon as you click goodbye, the game stutters, locks up, and crashes with script effect error! Which...may of been because I had to "skip" that part because the staircase is broken and I had to manually summon the NPC's, but still...crash because of dodgey handling of the script.

BTW i'm in NO WAY flaming those mods, I love them both. I'm just illistrating thier constribution to these random "wtf?!" crashes, by giving you an example of what these mods contain that cause these particular crashes. It's not a big issue at all, i'm just giving an example of script crashes here.

Well Elys + everyone else, I hope this helps you guys a bit as to answering the questions about A FEW of these "wtf?!" crashes, it took me a LONG time to pin point them and nail them down as much as I could. The custom scripts them selves are fine I think...it's just how the game/engine chooses to handle them.

Hopefully Qarn and Kiven and all the other contributers to the UOP could maybe attempt a fix to clean up oblivions handling of these 3 issues, not just the script effects in the near future :).

It could also be that one of your cables that feeds power to your video card has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

all my other games works witout any troubel,can it still be a powercableproblem?also the game crashes even with a newly started character.As for virus scaneres ive alwas have them to manualy so it dosent scan in the background.

What does "BTask" measure anyway? "Background Tasks"? The game definately seems more likely to crash randomly when processing a lot of them, like in the hundreds. If you move around Cyrodiil slowly and let the Btasks complete, the game is more stable. But you'll also spend a LOT of time walking from one tree to the next...

I assume it means this yes. Indeed like I said, having more RAM defiantly keeps the numbers down when your wandering around outside for ages.

But remember, this is when using QTP3R, AEVWD 4096 LOD's etc etc, UBER high end stuff. I've never managed to experience oblivion with my 2gigs actually working properly as described in my wall-o-text so I can't give a personal experience to extreme detail, only what i tested.

I reckon it wouldn't hurt to go back to the 2048 res LOD's and see if that keeps the numbers down but...last time I checked there wasn't much performance difference..

Yea it might still be a power cable problem because the video card will use more power when alot of graphic intensive things are happening on screen. Thats one reason if your video card or other hardware comes with their own cabling better to use theirs then your old current cable because your old cable might not be designed to give out that much power.

You, my dear lady, are incredible.


If you are using Vista pre-SP1, try the memory leak fix. It should reduce memory-based crashes in most memory intensive apps and games. This type of crash is more prevalent in graphic cards with 265-512 Mb or greater VRAM.

If it was a hardware problem, the game wouldn't be the only thing crashing - more likely that the OS is crashing itself. If your graphics card seems to be messing up, either the display will become corrupted ( a sign of memory corruption ). Expect a BSODs in cases where the problem is prolly due to the gfx card.

Yea it might still be a power cable problem because the video card will use more power when alot of graphic intensive things are happening on screen. Thats one reason if your video card or other hardware comes with their own cabling better to use theirs then your old current cable because your old cable might not be designed to give out that much power.

If the gfx card is under-powered, they expect performance issues like really low FPS and eventually game crashes. But then again, if the gfx card is underpowered ( especially voltage-wise ), you should be seeing a blank screen instead of the HUD ;)

These are the errors Iv'e gotten, you'll notice oddly enough that twice the faulting module part was unknown...

As it stands its relatively random I have 99% chance of not replicating it and its usually when traveling or fast traveling (traveling includes opening doors).

The last one is a game stopper.
Always knocks me down in the forest, moving fast.

and thats every one I've had since I came back to oblivion..lol..
In order from most recent, to least recent. top to bottom.
I've installed like 20 mods.
Mostly weapons , armor, missions.
No major overhauls.
except MMM, which is pretty major.

My event viewer does not provide all of the information you indicated in green. This is all I see:

Here is my crash log. I am running 1.2.0416 and I cannot easily reproduce the crash. I might be hardware overload.

Flying around the bridge to IC on Akatosh mount. I use RAEVWD and QTP3 reduced reidemized.

My game recently started crashing whenever I try to save. If I go back to an earlier save it stops happening for a while, but it eventually starts again (after a pretty consistent amount of time, actually).
Here's the Event Viewer information:
Faulting application oblivion.exe, version 1.2.0.416, faulting module oblivion.exe, version 1.2.0.416, fault address 0x0002247d

According to weOCPS, the last prevented crash was a couple days ago, if that matters.

I've never had a crash problem this bad. Since it happens any time I try to save it makes the game basically unplayable.

I seem to have issues when Crossing certain Cell borders.


What's strange is that these problematic Borders seem to change. I can wait a while and I can cross them without issue, but then they show up somewhere else in the game world, and the same story-only there until an undetermined amount of time.



This is really confusing...

Turns out weOCPS is actually doing something for me, it seems. As to what this means in relation to my installation - To me, it's a mystery.

Always happens in the Kvatch oblivion gate, and when I try to get to the main towers. (I have tried alternate routes, but the problem seems to affect an entire zone.)
