More than one disk?

Post » Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:08 am

With more and more games putting more stuff into their worlds (like Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy to name a couple) Does it matter if the game has more than one disk to you?

This I think would mostly concern Xbox owners like myself. To me it really doesn't matter as long as there is a lot of content for me to do and explore like the previous ES games and everything looks great.

With Blu-ray, you would not need another disk. But I have always found it annoying that at key points to multi-disk games (i.e. Metal Gear Solid) you had to get up and manually switch the disk. This should not be in TES universe. Maybe if in the GOTY edition, the DLC was all on another disk, but that would only be a one time download.

I don't really care, i'd rather have it where you just download stuff with one disk and play with the other, but it doesn't really matter either way

I don't care. It's definitely better than the alternative.

Doubt my PS3 blu-ray version will need more than one disk.

As for XBOX users, I don't think you'll have a disk swapping system. TES is built in an open world where you can do almost any part of the game at almost any time, so I think it will just have to do an installation or you'd be switching disks every 2 minutes depending on what content you're reaching.

I'll most likely buy Skyrim on Steam so multiple disks doesn't affect me.

Only if it splits the sandbox world.

Why comment? It's your choice sure, but why?

And two disks would be better than less content. Hell I'd take three disks without a second thought. Its only a problem if the world (being open) is really divided. Maybe they could have a river or something in the middle of the map, and you only change disks when you cross. But then the quests would probably only take you a short distance from your starting point...

So maybe just one disk then.

If they did do it they would have to treat the extra discs as DLC like the Oblivion GotY, that way you can play the whole lot without a disc switch problem. It'd screw the few Xbox owners who bought low capacity systems, but I'd rather that than to let everyone on every system suffer a lower quality game. This way satisfies the most amount of people.

Well see, it's because we'll be playing the game as well and the thread wasn't about console vs PC - note the title:

"More than one disk?"

Bring on the disks, says I. I'll install the game once and be done with it. (I hear the consoles can do that too...)

I don't really care either way. I just don't want there to be a shortage of content. I'll be getting it via Steam anyway (Hope it also has steam activation so I can get the box too...I like the boxes :P) so it doesn't really affect me.

It doesn't matter if I have to install 10 discs, as long as I only have to *use* 1 (and at that, hopefully only for a limited amount of time).

I did notice the title. But if it wouldn't matter(as they said in those quotes), then what is the point in commenting? I'm not trying to start a riot or destroy peace, happiness and freedom. I just don't understand people's motives.

I don't really care either way; Mass Effect 2 did not bother me, but Skyrim is a completely different kind of game... If MS had made a HDD standard equipment on the 360 then this issue would be null because then many games would have install options rather than disc swapping options. The only way I see multi-disc Skyrim working on a 360 is if it is required to have a certain amount of HDD space available to install and play, but final fantasy online is the only game so far to have a HDD as a requirement to play so we will see. I just hope they do not dumb the 360 version or dumb down the other versions because of the 360...

The motive is to voice our opinion, see. The thread asks a simple question- would you mind having the game come on more than one disk. Our answer is no. Seems clear enough to me...

If the game is downloaded then no disk is needed, right? This is like me voicing my opinion on what color shirt a man in Kansas wears on Tuesday. Even if I hear about the problem, I am so far removed from the ripple effect of his action that it would be strange for me to call him and say " I don't care what you wear." Of course I don't. I'm hundreds of miles away. I would understand if these people were upset at the idea of having only one disk limiting the amount of content in the game, but because they will not have an actual disk to use when they play the game, simply saying that they are in no way affected by the entire thing and nothing else seems strange. The topic is here and open, and I can't and won't say that everyone cannot comment, but as of right now, I am a very confused Kansan.

But I don't want to turn the topic into a PM session, so I'll come back to the topic.

How much content (as in new, highly detailed and impressive) can really be placed on a disk? And I mean an Xbox disk, because the game will probably be made with the Xcaja in mind. FO: NV got quite a bit of things onto a single disk, but it was a year or two behind in graphics and such. The GI crew claims to be amazed, so I would almost be willing to bet that there will be two disks. It may be that only the Xbox has two disks. But if the various claims of amazement are to be believed, I would say at least two are needed.

For sixty bucks I'd rather it came with something more than just one disk. An-depth booklet would be nice especially with a huge map included. I don't really care about key rigs, figurines, tattoos or other stuff.

I'm gonna love Skyrim no matter what, but I'd rather they didn't put it on two disks... Even though I loved Mass Effect 2, that really annoyed me...

I just don't know if slightly more content is worth the hassle of two disks...

It is. 360 should not be the limiting factor and I for one play on 360

the lowerst possible model of console should not be the limiting factor.. that is just too low (hdd space), two dvd's should be used with the second being just files to install to the hard drive. ps3 and pc are not limited by hard drive space so it would be a shame to use that as an excuse for it being the limiting factor just cause some people with 360's dont have hard drives to install games/portions of games to. the first disc can be an optional install.

I cant wait till the next gen consols become more pc like and come with 1tb hdd or maybe even ssd's and require installs. this is the solution to load times, noise, and heat issues.

They should use 2 discs, if that will be needed to make this game perfect. If they can't fit it all on one disk, then they should spread the data on 2 discs. I don't see the problem with it.

I could care less. All I would have to do is install it. I would think that Bethesda would make it work for 360, where you would install the second disk, but only need the first to play or something.
