More then 1 Character ?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:10 pm

Alright so how exactly do I do this? I started another character few days ago, and it wiped out all my saved games on my main character. So need less to say I had to start the damn thing over, how exactly do you guys get to have 1, 2, 3 characters I see without over writing saved games to other characters?

Any help would be appreciated, sorry for the nubness on my part. =/

I create another folder in my saved games folder, and copy/paste the last save of my last character, for backup. Other than that, I just usually save manually.

Your autosaves and quicksave will be overwritten but your manually saved games will not be touched. So load your last save, save the game manually and then create a new character.

Are you just relying on auto saves? They will continually over-write each other. Manually save to a new slot every time. This means you wont get caught up if you need to go back any significant amount of time (because you got a bug, or you changed your mind or something) and also means if you get save game corruption you don't lose too much playing time.

You can create a seperate save file for every character, if you don't want to just save manually and accidentally save over it later.

Load up your main character, open the console and type "save" followed by your character's name.
Then do the same with your second character and just save over that file whenever you are done playing with that character.

Well I am always hitting F5 to quick save, here and there. And it was what I was doing with my first character, made a second, did a few F5 saves and when I tried to go back on a load date to my first character the save list was not there.

I'm wondering when all these people asking about overwritten saves started gaming. A month ago? Because every sensible person saves manually, even if just to have a backup in case something happens to the last quicksave. Perhaps the game should come with an instruction how to make proper saves?
Anyway, Autosave and Quicksave overwrite every time they're used. There will always be only one Quicksave, for the last character you played. To keep multiple characters, make manual saves when you stop playing.

Well yeah, quicksave and autosave slots don't care what character you're playing, they just overwrite themselves.

You'll need to rely on manual saves for seperate characters like I explained a post above yours.

you should always make manual saves before quitting the game. All kinds of things can happen. Relying on auto saves and quick saves is not a very good idea. The quick save slot is almost always the one to get corrupted first since it gets used the most.

If you are playing on the pc you can download a save file manager to separate your various characters but they can be frustrating to use at first.
