More useable practice targets or dummies?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:36 pm

This idea just came to mind that Skyrim should have those kind of things where you could actually practice your skills depending on the weapon or spell you're using. And for balance you should probably get half or quarter the exp points you would normally get when hitting an enemy. The dummies found in Oblivion were almost completly useless, the only times I found them useful was when I tried practicing my aim.

So anyone, give you opinions.

I hear that you can duel people in the streets. You will probably even be able to duel members of the guilds you join as well. Having a live target is better than any practice dummy, though having target ranges would be nice too for bow practice.

I agree. Having the targets and dummies yield reduced experience would give them a real practical use, and would add to immersion. Come to think of it... Are there any mods that do that (Morrowind or Oblivion)?

I think in the E3 demo for oblivion, Tod said that you could practice on targets. I guess it didn't make the final product.

I'd like them to be more useful... and easier to hit, in Oblivion I was practicing with arrows and accidently shot somebody in the Fighter's Guild. I had to run and steal a horse, but before I could ecape I was caught and find for over for hundred coins... I went to jail, I hope that instead of being arrested for accidently hitting somebody in the same guild as you you should have to duel...

I agree that using practice dummies should yield a small amount of xp

I think they should give normal xp. but only to a certain level. Like after level 25 or so it just doesn't work.

I agree with both points made here, They should give half xp but only to a certain point. This would be pretty neat

I know, but one person asked if a mod like that existed for oblivion, so I was just linking that. But I agree, training dummies would be useful. I feel that there shouldn't be a limit to how much you can train per level either, though they were talking about the mentor system I think which covers that pretty well

I think periods of practice on dummies should count toward your progression but only half or a quarter as much as real use in fights and only to say lvl 35-40 as some things as in rl have to be learned by actually doin not just practice
