[RELz] Morrowind Achievements

Post » Tue Aug 17, 2010 10:31 am

This mod adds a Record Book that can be found in Caius Cosades' house in Balmora. This book can be used to keep track of various statistics that can be viewed in-game (a bit like those in Oblivion). In addition, it is now possible to unlock 30 achievements for accomplishing special tasks or any particularly impressive feats. As far as I know this hasn't been done before, with the exception of Hunters Achievements, which has essentially been incorporated into this mod.

When you unlock an achievement, a message box will pop up and a sound will be played. All of your achievements can be viewed in your journal via the "Quests" tab.

I have tried not to make the achievements seem too much like a chore; while some act as rewards for genuine accomplishments, for the most part I wanted them to seamlessly blend in with the game - so most of them should come as a nice surprise when you unlock them, rather than being something to labour for.

Cleaned with TESAME.

NOTE: This is a beta release and therefore I plan to do some more work on this before the first "official" release; however, I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions so that I know what to improve - see the readme for more information.

Oi, nifty mod. Loved the statistic date in Oblivion.

Not much of an achiever in general...but will try. It'll surely will spice things up!

cheers :obliviongate:

Would be neat to see this integrated somehow with Fligg's Census and Excise.

Looking forward to this. It's the kind of some thing that really adds value to the game in the long run. Consider loading it to TES Nexus, Fliggerty's, and Elric's, as well. :)

I believe that's the plan ;)
I guess we'll see once Fliggerty's had a look at it.

Hmm... it's interesting that you suggest that. I've never uploaded to (and in fact have hardly even downloaded from) anywhere but PES before. Would you say it's something worth doing? I'm not sure I see much point in doing it for just this one mod, but uploading all my mods to each site would be a total mission

I think it would be safe to upload it to at least one other site, preferably http://mw.modhistory.com/.

You're more than welcome to UL this or any and all of your mods to GHF and/or MMH. In fact I'd encourage you to. There are quite a few mod users who won't go to PES for one reason or another, so you'll reach a much larger audience.

I know I'm biased, but GHF is a great site. No waiting for the mod to be "available", easy to update, screenshot capable (MMH can now have screenshots too!), a win all around. :D

Edit: Another "perk" is that GHF and MMH are both indexed for ES Search now as well. :)

I know what you mean--and I've got mine on only three sites. :violin: But a lot of people check Fliggerty's nowadays, and TES Nexus has a moderate-sized Morrowind following, as well as excellent user feedback and great revolving picture galleries for each mod. (Even users can put them up, if the mod owner agrees.) Elric's isn't used as much as it once was, but it's got sentimental value to old farts like myself. So I guess it all comes down to whether you have the time. You'll pick up some new users, but will they be enough to make it worth it? Up to you. :)

This should make the heavily-modded-for-greater-fun pure mage playthrough I've been working on more interesting. I'll be sure to give plenty of feedback.

This looks like a fun little mod, though to be honest I like to keep my in-game references to the fictional nature of the world to a minimum. So I probably wouldn't use it myself...other than if it were integrated with Fligg's tracking system, as others have said. What would make it work for me, and I think would be kind of fun, is if there were some odd Daedric shrine somewhere, or a manifestation of Shegorath in Ebonheart, or something of the like, where someone with otherworldly interest in you were personally scrying and taking down notes on your accomplishments. Maybe even a physical trophy hall you can visit where award decorations appear as you unlock them. My favorite thing about this approach would be being able to talk to the person tracking me, hear their opinions on my exploits...and of course, seeing how they would phrase things to make sense to my in-game incarnation. :deal:

I see what you mean. It's not particularly immersive, but I've tried to do it so that it's as if your character is actually keeping track of these things (thus the message that pops up when you update the record book). Maybe not totally realistic but I think it's about as good as it's gonna get without a serious reworking

Thanks! There are a few stats / achievements that will update automatically when you install the mod (these are mentioned in the readme), but it's not possible to keep track of most things that happened before installing.

I don't really know... do most mods work with your version? If so, then I imagine it would work.

Wonderful, this plus the census and excise office mod would complement each other nicely. And I'm gonna restart my game to see all the counts build from zero. :D

I feel that you can do away with the "taking down mental note" when during conversation, seems a bit intrusive, but that's me. Probably you can also refer to Arcanum': Steamwork of Magick and Obscura too, as the game also have a detailed kills, etc counts incorporated in the game journal..

I think I agree with you about the "mental note" greeting, but that's the only way to record how many conversations you've had... I might have to lose that statistic

I don't want to have too detailed a kill count, as that would be the same thing as what http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3168 does currently.

True, too much may lower the fps I guess. Anyway, I have got some error, when i start a new game and tired to talk to Sellus Gravius without the chargen paper, an error popped up Script LocalState
Trying to RunFunction index greater than function count
The script will not run anymore.
==>CompileAndRun problem was found in Greeting "Greeting 0"
"[You make a mental note of this conversation for your Record Book]"
Same goes with when I talked to Fargoth when he was sneaking to his muck pool . Any idea what is causing it?

There's something to be said for different mods that achieve the same thing, when they do it differently. Some might prefer your mod if it includes a detailed kill count, because they have no RP problem with everything else you add. Others might want something simpler such as Hunter Achievements, if they don't want to receive notifications of benefits that lie outside the field of a kill tally.

But of course, up to you. :)
