[List] Morrowind (and older TES games) nostalgia mods

Post » Sat Oct 09, 2010 1:05 am

This is intended to be a list of things which bring back Morrowind or Morrowind-inspired things into the world of Oblivion. Let's be clear right from the start, only art assets (models, textures, sounds, etc.) entirely recreated from scratch are allowed. So, do not bring up the topic of that program. It's taboo. Don't ask, don't tell.

This list is a work-in-progress, please contribute by listing mods or resources I may have forgotten or I do not know about. :)

Morrowind Creatures & Items
  • http://wrye.ufrealms.net/Cobl.html: Features Tamrielic books and ingredients (not just from Morrowind)
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7471: Features Dwemer Centurion Spider, Frost Giant, Golden Saint, Guar and Hunger from Morrowind, as well as a few other creatures from past games and lore. (Warning: the LCE Hunger conflicts with the Shivering Isles Hunger.) Note that most creatures from LCE have been included in various other mods, such as OOO and MMM.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15073: A new Spriggan, closer in look and behavior to the ones found on Solstheim.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5943: Gives three lives to the Oblivion spriggans, like in Daggerfall and Bloodmoon.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20358: Get your own pack guars!
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11417: Features many armors and weapons from Morrowind, as well as a few extra.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15943 (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=4112): A compilation of Nordic-themed armors which include many sets from Morrowind and Bloodmoon, notably Bear, Wolf, Trollbone, Stahlrim and Nordic Mail, and more.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15257: Features what it says it does, plus a couple of shields.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16442: A recreation of the Morrowind Daedric armor by McMuffin.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15063: Features the armor of everybody's favorite scum-watchers.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15083 adds the Daedric Crescent to Oblivion.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8763 adds the Boots of Blinding Speed to Oblivion. The vision change is an intense blurring effect rather than a total blackout (though, in Morrowind, if you had resist magicka or night eye, the darkening of the world lessened).
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17094
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14546 brings back Morrowind's silly-looking colovian fur helmets.
  • http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=104519&id=4163 adds ebony scimitars like those from Tribunal.
  • http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1857 adds unique weapons retextured to look like Morrowind's ebony weapons.
  • http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3534 contains Eleidon's Ward and a few other lore-friendly items.
  • http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2054 contains a unique armor retextured as the Lord's Mail.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20354 offers retextures of the Imperial Legion armor and Palace Guard armor to make them resemble the Imperial armor and Templar armor from Morrowind.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17617 contains five weapons which can summon their daedric equivalent for you, like the demon/devil/fiend weapons from Morrowind.
Places & Landmass
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4151 adds Caldera town and environs as a place to go to.
Personalities & Celebrities
  • http://princess.elricm.net/Oblivion.htm: Features our favorite shirtless spy, doing a simple cameo appearance at Could Ruler Temple.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16373 by Aelwyn: Features our favorite Ghorak Manor resident, the scamp merchant Creeper!
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7603 adds some old Morrowind faces to the Elder Council.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7636 brings back the Khajiit girl from Pelagiad to Anvil.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10373 tells you where this crazy Bosmer went after the Nerevarine killed him in Mournhold.
Morrowind-Like Graphic Tweaks
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15549: Features, unsurprisingly enough, a playable race of Dremora that looks just like they did in Morrowind. At least for the face.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10403 replaces the Oblivion soul gems with beautiful Morrowind-style soulgems.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2996 changes the bright vanilla green of glass armor and weapons to the beautiful, rich green of Morrowind's glass items. Check the thread http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=53312 for how to make this mod a true texture replacement.
  • http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3278 makes the mudcrabs' shells look more like that of the Morrowind mudcrabs.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13444 makes the argonian faces closer in aspect to those in Morrowind.
Morrowind-Like Gameplay Tweaks
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4120 contains several scripted spells that replace the missing spell effects from Morrowind.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18745 features the possibility for your character to become an Audae, Berne or Quarra vampire instead of the Cyrodiil vampire.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4520: Brings back Morrowind-style travel with NPCs and teleportation spells, and allow you to keep, disable or re-enable Oblivion's fast travel system.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4012 adds, well, skill requirements for guild rank andvancements. Now my stealth character will have to be proficient in magic before becoming archmage.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7625 is one of several mods on TESNexus that adds chests with supplies to the Mages and Fighters Guild. Similar chests existed for Morrowind's guilds. I don't know what items are contained in the mod I mentioned, as I'm in the process of starting a new character.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10832 is an excellent mod that allows your character to wear robes over armor/other clothing, with no clipping issues. Requires OBSE. There are other non-OBSE mods that allow robes to be worn over armor.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13385 brings back the Morrowind NPC awareness of when you got out of bed without your pants on. Requires OBSE.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11444 makes spell skill advancement factor in the magicka cost for a spell, just like in Morrowind. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10791 also has this feature, as well as many other features that replicate the system of magic used in Morrowind.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2926 prevents your summoned units from attacking allies (or you) if the ally (or you) accidently hit the summoned creature during combat.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2250 improves the enchantments on daedric artifacts (as well as the imperial dragon armor). It makes the artifacts more powerful.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7327 contains various replacements for the vanilla "blue-world" night eye shader. The "very bright" shader makes using Night Eye a lot closer to the Morrowind Night Eye.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2411 changes the vanilla visual effects of Chameleon to a general fading effect, similar to Morrowind's.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12859 is an OBSE plugin that brings back the Ctrl+clic and Shift+click features of the Morrowind inventory UI. (Simply put, Ctrl+click is "just one" and Shift+click is "all".)
  • http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11237 makes Willpower affect magic resistance as it did in Morrowind.
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=866989 by Talkie Toaster allows to attempt to cast any spell at any skill, but you are not guaranteed to succeed -- just like in Morrowind. Requires OBSE.
Modders' resources
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16560 is a beautiful recreation of the Telvanni architecture, developed for the WIP mod Tel Aryon 2.0.
Work-in-Progress
  • http://telaryon.wordpress.com/: A Telvanni tower south of the Black Woods, by JonSatriani.
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=871847: A faithful recreation of the Sheogorad region of the Vvardenfell district by Phitt, complete with recreation of all meshes by himself or the Silgrad Tower team.
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=937812: A partner project of Phitt's Sheogorad, using the same high-quality resources.
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=814431: A recreation of, surprise, Chitin armor and weapons, for Oblivion and by Hel Borne.
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=816655: A landmass mod by the SoVvM team, bringing back the regions seen in Morrowind GotY. http://postalmodding.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=sovvm, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16976.
  • http://www.silgrad.com/wbb2/index.php: A landmass mod by the ST team, bringing back the regions seen in their TES3 mod as well as many elements of Morrowind, architecture, flora, booze...
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=777545: currently including a few daedric weapons waiting for McMuffin's Daedric Lord textures and a couple of crossbows waiting for a good crossbow mod.
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=844726: Will feature many Morrowind-style glass weapons and armors, by Conan_Lon aka LHammonds.
Older than Morrowind
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11755 (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3002), by Deathless Aphrodite. Yes, this one is about Daggerfall nostalgia.
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14411, by Kirel, makes Sheggy younger, looking like he did in Daggerfall, before the gray march of his hair. Doesn't give him the banker's coat, though.
  • http://princess.elricm.net/Oblivion.htm, by Princess Stomper, makes Sheggy, well, sixier and also younger as in Daggerfall, too. Still no banker's coat. :P
  • http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20857, by Durza, is like Kirel's or Princess Stomper's, but it does have the Banker's Coat. Yay! :D
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20651: "Rest well this night, for tomorrow you sail to the kingdom of Daggerfall. Sorry, I meant, you are the one from my dreams." Ocato and Uriel look much more like the actors who played them in the very short intro sequence of Daggerfall.
  • http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/, aiming to bring back the land you saw in Arena, Daggerfall, Redguard and even Shadowkey: Hammerfell. (Rest of the land covered by Arena and Daggerfall not included. We're crazy-ambitious, but not crazy-crazy-ambitious.)

COBL incorporates Tamrielic Ingredients and books from the previous games

Whoops - my bad - you had it listed as 'Common Oblivion Library'. Guess it's been a while since I've called it that. :)

I added (Cobl) to its name to avoid further confusion. :)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13945 by Aelwyn. It's listed as a beta, but I have no problems at all with it. There's at least 1 other Creeper mod on Nexus, but this one functions more like MW's Creeper.

Thanks for making this list! I am sure I'll be checking in frequently.

Oh, and Princess Stomper made a mod that adds Caius Cosades to Cloud Ruler Temple.

I also have these WIP:

http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/544857-1203834019.JPG
http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/544857-1203424769.JPG

These are resources (meshes/textures) for some talented scripters that are re-introducing crossbows to OB.

http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/544857-1198607005.JPG

I've been sitting on these 'til McMuffin gets his armor released as I'm trying to coax him into letting me incorporate his textures so they match his armor set. Thats up to him of course.

Thank you, added both.

I http://www.alquier.org/TES/2007/05/how_to_make_oblivion_closer_to.html on my site a long time ago if you want to extend yours.

Thanks, I took the Cyrodiil Transportation Network from it. The old-school artifact mod adds them to leveled list and doesn't have unique meshes, so I kept it out. The books from MrDarkSim's mod are integrated in Cobl, so I won't add it (same reason I won't add separately Tarnsman's Tamriel Ingredients).

I also have these WIP:

Thanks, I've added them collectively with a link to your screenshot thread.

Keep 'em coming, boys and girls! :)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10403 replaces the Oblivion soul gems with beautiful Morrowind-style soulgems.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4151 adds Caldera town and environs as a place to go to. Seems to faithfully replicate that town (I have not yet played Oblivion with the mod, though I look forward to it).
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4012 adds, well, skill requirements for guild rank andvancements. Now my stealth character will have to be proficient in magic before becoming archmage.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7625 is one of several mods on TESNexus that adds chests with supplies to the Mages and Fighters Guild. Similar chests existed for Morrowind's guilds. I don't know what items are contained in the mod I mentioned, as I'm in the process of starting a new character.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10832 is an excellent mod that allows your character to wear robes over armor/other clothing, with no clipping issues. Requires OBSE. There are other non-OBSE mods that allow robes to be worn over armor.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7603 adds some old Morrowind faces to the Elder Council. However, I haven't started a game with this mod yet, though I look forward to doing so.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11084 adds ingredients not only from Morrowind but from other TES games to Oblvion.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2996 changes the bright vanilla green of glass armor and weapons to the beautiful, rich green of Morrowind's glass items. Check the thread http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=53312 for how to make this mod a true texture replacement.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3868 contains all the TES books. These mods add http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3372, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2922, and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3281.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13385 brings back the Morrowind NPC awareness of when you got out of bed without your pants on. Requires OBSE.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15083 adds the Daedric Crescent to Oblivion.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8763 adds the Boots of Blinding Speed to Oblivion. The vision change is an intense blurring effect rather than a total blackout (though, in Morrowind, if you had resist magicka or night eye, the darkening of the world lessened).
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14546 brings back Morrowind's silly-looking colovian fur helmets.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11444 makes spell skill advancement factor in the magicka cost for a spell, just like in Morrowind. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10791 also has this feature, as well as many other features that replicate the system of magic used in Morrowind.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2926 prevents your summoned units from attacking allies (or you) if the ally (or you) accidently hit the summoned creature during combat. Honestly, in the heat of battle it is so easy to accidently hit your summoned unit, they keep rushing around and getting in the way of sword strikes, spells, and arrows.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2250 improves the enchantments on daedric artifacts (as well as the imperial dragon armor). It makes the artifacts more powerful -- I found that some vanilla enchanted weapons were on par with these supposedly mighty artifacts. For me, at least, the mod brings back the the feeling that I have a mighty weapon.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7327 contains various replacements for the vanilla "blue-world" night eye shader. I use the "very bright" shader (which doesn't have a preview screenshot, oddly enough). I find this makes using Night Eye a lot easier on, well, my eyes. Reminds me of the Morrowind Night Eye, which made dark places look brighter.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2411 changes the vannila visual effects of Chameleon to a general fading effect. IIRC, Morrowind's chameleon effect was similar?

I actually had an idea regarding this, which is to make a texturing resource kit for matching my stuff, with my base textures, rivets, borders, et cetera pre-rendered. This way it should be easier for weapon modelers to match the style should they so choose.

As an aside, I recently noticed the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6707 textures blend with mine reasonably already.

That would be nice for continuity.

Yes, I will. Maybe not everyday, but I will. And look, I just did! :)

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?id=7319&view=Mods.Detail&id=3457

I don't see how that bring to Oblivion something that is in Morrowind Goty?

Note: I'm not putting "Morrowind books" or "Tamrielic Ingredients" in the list because both are superceded by Cobl.

Perhaps http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3278 given that the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=51264look sort of like they did in Morrowind? Maybe even http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3170 given that one of the

Added the mudcrab, left out the other -- it's not a real kagouti.

I just remembered Ilseroth's Ahnassi mod, so I've added it.

I http://www.alquier.org/TES/2007/05/how_to_make_oblivion_closer_to.html on my site a long time ago if you want to extend yours.

And here's mine too. It was complete as of December, 2007. I haven't updated it since.
