I kinda liked the Oblivion ones better, the lack of bowed legs didnt bother be with beast races in that game.

what I did miss though was an argonian wielding a spear clad in scaled armor, but that is a different issue.

Morrowind, because I liked how they weren't just a human with scaly skin and red eyes.

Morrowind.

The lack of bowed legs was illogical. Animals with tails have those tails for a reason, and with the way Oblivion Argonians walked, the tails served no purpose in actually supporting the creature's balance. It was a physical absurdity.

Also, the lack of actual claws was just plain lazy.

Yeah, pretty much this.
Ever take the shirt off a Argonian or a Khajitt in Oblivion? LOL
I can't even comprehend that the devs let that hilarious joke of a race get shipped on when it did. I mean, even I could design a race better than that. It was like two completely differet races with a zipper neckline attaching a argonian head to a human body. So terrible.

I preferred the Oblivion version in terms of proportions, but I do wish that they had retained their crocodile-like swimming animation. I honestly thought the anatomy and general animations of the beast races in Morrowind looked ridiculous.

EDIT: @Betrayer of Humanity-- Actions speak quite a bit louder than words. I'd very much like to see your race concepts.

Argonians in Oblivion looked exactly like a human wearing a lizard suit. The Argonians in Morrowind, however, looked far different, and looked wonderfully alien. I miss the Morrowind Argonians, and it's a crying shame what Bethesda turned them into in Oblivion. I can only hope that they fix their mistake in TES V.

I prefer Oblivion's Argonians. I hate their waddling animation in Morrowind, I prefer their appearance in Oblivion, and I prefer their actually breathing underwater in Oblivion instead of just having a water breathing spell as in Morrowind, but I do prefer how they swim in Morrowind.

I prefer the Morrowind Argonians simply because of the physical diversity they add to the races, along with the Khajiit.

Oblivion made a massive improvement to the best races, especially the Argonians. The bowed legs in Morrowind just looked goofy and exaggerated and the strange walking animation they had was horrendous.

Edit: Seti said exactly what I was trying to think of. They looked like they were waddling in Morrowind.

Agreed, I didn't like Oblivion as much simply because it didn't have as much diversity as it's predecessor, this may have been because of the technical restraints of the 360 at the time but still I hope the next TES is more of a breath of fresh air.

For me this debate boils down to one issue, whether or not you want race (and by proximity, all beginning choices) to be purely aesthetic in nature and having no real effect on gameplay, or if you want the choices you make in character creation to drastically alter how the game plays out and what opportunities will be open and shut to you.

So to me its not whether or not the Argonian can wear boots or not, its whether or not you should be able to become master of all factions and do everything like in Oblivion, or if some choice you make at a point in the game is going to change the world irreversibly.

I had a hard time deciding, changed my vote many times. Both game types are just so appealing to me. I liked how in Oblivion you could master everything, it gave you a sense of accomplishment, like you were near god-like in your mastery of everything, but I loved how in Morrowind, if you completed the Fighters guild, you had to kill the Master thief, which had real consequences for you, making your choices meaningful (there were ways around that, but even finding out how to work around such political intrigues was fun in its own way)

So yes, Argonians in Oblivion were absurdly untrue to their nature, but I'd hate for a hole section of quests to be cut off from me just because I wanted to look cool.

I prefer Daggerfall's argonians. Though I would like it if they had animalistic legs (but not to the extreme of Morrowind's legs! Those were kinda silly and awkward looking).

Also, Oblivion's argonians were pretty close to Daggerfall's when you compare it with Morrowind's. Hell, Morrowind is the only game to make them one step above an amphibious lizard.

I definitely like the Morrowind beast races better. Bethesda wasn't even going to add them as playable races initially, but I am glad they did. I don't really care about the "waddling" animation since just about every animation in the game, especially the walking, was done poorly. I agree that the Oblivion Argonians just looked like humans with lizard suits, and their tails were completely useless.

I love the Morrowind Argonians for their unique anatomy and animations. In addition to the unique swimming animations, am I the only one who liked the "hot sand" walking movements? :)

To me, the biggest problem with the Argonians (and all races) in Oblivion was the body proportions. Morrowind's bodies had very rigid and angular features, chiseled like a Greco-Roman warrior statue. This is unrealistic, but I felt it lent itself heavily to the air of high-fantasy that the Elder Scrolls series is known for. By comparison, the bodies in Oblivion were literally tubes. This was particularly bad on the Argonians since it was nothing but a repetitive pattern of scales. Very little diversity in aesthetics.

In theory, if Bethesda were to work on their textures, I could see the Oblivion Argonians as tolerable. But, for the time being, Morrowind's have proven to work wonderfully and I'd love to see a return to them.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "tubes" statement, since Morrowind was the one with the sausage-link arms ;) In both games, the character models/textures were horrendous, but I think we just never noticed at the time :P

Same. I would actually vote for Daggerfall Version just for the Skin Pattern. Morrowind lack that and I tend to find a bit off in Oblivion.

But ya, I would vote Morrowind's Version over Oblivion for these reason:

* The general beast legs and claws. Ganna stand out from the crowd.
* The Voice is something I would consider great. The Male sound much more lizardish and the female have that gypsy-like sound to it.
* The head is alot more reptilian.
* Swimming animation was also nice.
* Blah, in a way, I love how any beast race walk in Morrowind.

The only thing I would consider Argonian in Oblivion is the boobies, but even then its just a cut and paste from a human body.

Yeah...every time there's an argonian discussion, you always seem to bring up lizard boobs.

Getting away from that, if I have to pick between MW's and OB's argonians, I am forced to say Morrowind. It really isn't fair as my current main in MW is an argonian with a thing for diseases, poisons, and entropy, while wearing a pretty nasty looking robe a follow of Nurgle would wear. They made a great looking race to be followers of Nurgle in Morrowind. Also, the voices matched the races better.

In Oblivion, the body structure just didn't cut it for me. It just didn't look that lizardy.

Morrowind.
Make them hunch over a bit, and give them those crooked and bent legs again.
The voices of the argonians in Oblivion were phenomenal though, if tedious, from hearing the same two over and over.

I prefer the legs from morrowind, but it was nice that they actually had a constant water breathing effect, instead of some spell, it made it more immersive given that the argonians water breathing is physiological, not magical. It was also nice with the different textures you could give them in Oblivion.

Anyways, bring back the beast legs.

I think the that devs should try to improve on both designs. A unique body type, refined from MW would be sublime. A unique swimming animation would be cool. A permanent breathe underwater effect would fantastic. Yes, it's settled, developers improve the Argonian.

That's difficult, considering Bethesda likes to scrap all their proven-to-work concepts and start fresh with every Elder Scrolls game. I don't know if they think it's cool or if they just choose to do so since they can use it as an excuse whenever people ask, "why isn't X from the previous TES game in this one?", but I can't honestly say it allows for much trial and error.

Morrowind's, they just looked so much more like beasts than men in Halloween outfits.
