IIRC, it's double left click and you can only write on the local map

got it, local map is not 100% was i was hoping for . Now wrting notes on a global map that would be a grande mod.

Agree, it's pretty clunky. The display of the note(s) does sort of flow up to the immediate level above it. I usually make a note about what a merchant sells and restocks or if I've looted a cave or place. So when I leave, part of my note gets displayed beneath the name.
