Morrowind code patch failed to apply

Post » Tue Jun 23, 2015 3:52 am

I recently finished a new install of morrowind with the overhaul, While in the code patch I accidently checked the map extension, my game of course fails on launch because I don't feel like setting up TR right now. So the logical thing to do would be to take that patch out of the code patch right? Well I can't I keep getting issues with the morrowind code patch and I can't update my files in it it saye patch failed to apply =. I can't play morrowind untill I fix this o please help me.

this is the exact message it gives me :

anolyzing Morrowind.exe...

Patching code...
Writing patch...
There was an error while accessing a file:
Permission denied
Patch failed to apply.

Just click a second time on "apply" or uninstall all the patches and re install them.

and please no one post saying "you just need to run it as administrator" I of course tried that my computer runs most things as administrator as long as I am okay with it.

Did you install it properly? You must drop both the executable and the folder into your Morrowind main directory, where Morrowind.exe is.

The readme said to extract the zip-file to the morrowind directory so I did that. The code patch opens and everything just anytime I try to change anything it says:

anolyzing Morrowind.exe...

Patching code...
Writing patch...
There was an error while accessing a file:
Permission denied
Patch failed to apply.

Are you sure you are running the Morrowind code patch as admin? (Yes, I read your post about that.)

Okay, it looks like you should completely uninstall Morrowind and reinstall it in a directory that is not "admin sensitive", ProgramFiles instead of ProgramFilesx86.

Before that, are you using mods and are your sure none of them screw the MCP?

It is installed to my games folder. I never install anything to ptogram files because it makes everything go to [censored].

@ladyonthemoon: MCP isn't affected by mods, so SD's load order is irrelevant.

@SD: Have you applied any other changes to the Morrowind executable like the 4g patch and patches from MGSO? If I recall correctly, it applies more than just MCP to the executable. Also, do you have a file called morrowind.original.exe in your main Morrowind folder? If so, delete/rename morrowind.exe, rename morrowind.original.exe, and try running the patch again. If it fails again, I think you may need to reinstall Morrowind and not run MCP via MGSO. The version that comes with MGSO is outdated because Kingpix has been very busy lately and hasn't had a chance to update his files.

I have now speant almost 10 hours trying to create a second insatlation of morrowind I just failed at my 5th try and feel like breaking my computer I give up on this for now I don't understand how people can stand installing this game 9 times. I literally am so mad I can not rest I now have the code patch working in a new instalation and my launcher says I am missing a masterfile called TR_map1 something like that. I can't fully uninstall before reintsalls BECAUSE MY COMPUTER WON'T LET ME DELETE THE DATA FILES FOLDER! I don't understand I have spent an entire day trying to do this and I just want a seperate instalation I don't understand what is wrong I have all the requirements and installed my mods correctly.

This sounds like a permissions problem to me. Are you actually logged in as an admin?

Well most people don't need to install the game 9 times. After installing it once, you should be able to then make any changes you need with that first one. (unless you get a corrupt installation.)

TR_map1 would be from the mod, Tamriel Rebuilt.
Although Morrowind itself doesn't need this to run, obviously, just your save files that rely on it.

And being logged in as an Admin is not the same as having Admin permissions, just in case you didn't know what.

Several reasons why it might not work, some are mentioned. Some reasons could be- mentioned admin issues (if you have two partitions, installing the game on the D disk would be ideal, or if it's your PC turn the admin settings off, I never found it useful at all to begin with), you don't have the latest patched installation of both expansions, you have some kind of an exe patch, like a no-cd patch, you didn't buy the game and have a "cracked" insallation. There's probably more, but these are from the top of my head.

PS. Code patch plugins mostly don't affect the game badly. For example, having a map extension, and not having anything that will have use of that, won't actually cause any problems to the game or with MPC's installation.
