Morrowind depth or Oblivion Prettiness?

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 2:29 am

So ive read a bit about what the game will have faction wise and discovered there might just be more stuff to do then oblivion. Wich got me thinking... will skyrim feel like what oblivion should have been : A prettier version then morrowind? Will the magic system be as awesome as morrowinds was ( there's lots of choices but nothing bets a good teleport or levitate spell)!? Will factions have more depth and caracter on the level of brotherhood. In my opinion that faction is the only true thing they improved over morrowind. You felt liek there was history behind that faction and colorful members that had personality. If the factions in skyrim are like that... this might be better then oblivion.

And what is the word on the loot system and level scaling ? I heard its like fallout but that game was too easy , everything you met was easily killable with a little effort. Morrowind had regiosn where the mosnters were of a certain level. I like that. If there a dark castle on top of a mountain that is rumored to house a great wyrm ... i'm expecting getting my ass chopped up into bite sized chucks for the dragons babie's ... not bashing threw it like any other dungeon. What gives a sense of power to a character and depth to a world is mainly fear of said world. It develops respect and questions of WHY these parts of the world are more powerfully inhabited then those parts. I also hope that dragons are not incountered unless a quest unlocks them in the world like oblivion gates.. or you reach a certain level. I don't want to be able to kill a dragon at level 3.

What do you guys think? Morrowind Depth or Mainstream simplicity of Oblivion?

The level scaling is supposedly fixed, you can find easy and tough opponents all the time. The loot scaling seems to be somehow fixed, if you can sneak to a high level area you can find good loot that's worth the effort.

But.. we havent played it yet!

I had my impression before playing oblivion to and was very sadly suprised when i realised how shallow the factions were. Morrowind had ZERO depth to its factiosn and quests... but they didnt try to either XD And walking aroudn was a chore unless you were a mage with fireball ( cuz magic was stupidly overpowered compared to the rest of the classes) Thanks to the level scaling. What is the word about loot and level scaling . Those are the main things that are worring me

Someone obviously has never fought a horde of angry Kazadors.

Level and loot scaling is a mix of Morrowind and Oblivion: you get enemies that scale with you, but still see weaker level enemies only in larger groups, and from the beginning there are monsters that can kill you in a single blow, such as giants. Dragons have been promised to be like "boss fights" in their difficulty. NPC enemies have also had their items fixed, no more bandits with glass armor and dwarven warhammers.

Overall richer content has been promised, Radiant AI dramatically improved if reports are to be believed, but no other details given.

Basicly my questions hould be : Do you guys want the complexity of a Baldur's gate ( but not as slow paced) or the easy bash and kill and get quests of a dead island?

http://www.gamesradar.com/spelunking-giant-hunting-swimming-and-looting-skyrim/?page=1 says the giants are very tough at low level.

And to answer your last question, yes I want a game with the complexity of Daggerfall, the choices and consequences of Witcher, the dialogue of Planescape and the nirnroot of Oblivion.

It's already guaranteed to look good. But I'm afraid it will only bring a pinch more depth to the table then Oblivion did. :sadvaultboy:

Yeah but they said they would be randomly generated ... wich is kinda a turn off to me. Dragons are the most richly detailed monsters out there ( on par with vampires). They have dens ( wich usually are olf fortresses that they killed everybody inside and nested there), they have mountains of gold and awesomely powerful loot, they can speak and some a highly intelligent beings that have a deep knowledge of most known things, they use minions to do there biddings prefering to not involve themselves directly. They live thousands of years and have seen the rise and fall of great empires and may have aided in wars 700 years ago. advlts are 300 years old at least... Younger then that there just powerful beasts.

Or are they just flying, fire-breathing lizards in this game? When i heard there was going to be dragons.. i was hoping the first one... but now that they revealed more stuff... they jsut sound like rare random encounters that are going to take 20 minutes to kill...

Nor a horde of deathclaws.
+ Legendary Deathclaw
or + Deathclaw Mother and Alpha Male altogether.

Its depth cannot be defined. Oblivion's simplistic prettified things are easily defined.

Well so far the game looks beautiful graphically and enviromentally. I just hope the gameplay and depth comes through in the end to be very deep.
