Morrowind Dunmer vs Oblvion Dunmer

It'd be more pleasant than OB's for sure! That voice felt a lot more suited to the bosmer.

I agree, I just think that they might want to consider finding a new voice for the male Dunmer altogether, if it's going to be fully voiced.

Use the raspy voice, and have a random event where a bunch of raspy voiced Dunmer are accosting a ridiculously high voiced dunmer because he sounds funny.

You know, as a tribute.

I like Morrowind Dunmer version. Make it "unique" to for the Dunmer Males.

Oh, and if ya guys are questioning about the dialogue of this voice, I suggesting listening to Desmond Lockheart via Fallout 3 Point Lookout. Same voice actor. Should give ya an idea what one would expect.

How about just not letting the same voice actor voice 8 races/sixes in the next TES game?
I think that'd solve the issue. Sure, the Oblivion Dunmer sounded a bit odd, not really "dunmer" to me.
But maybe because they sounded exactly like the Altmer, and the Bosmer? Same person? Seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Haskill is also voiced by the same guy. :)

Looking back, Desmond sounds a lot like the Morrowind Dunmer...I actually think Desmond sounded fine in PL.

I withdraw my previous statement about how they'd sound in voiced dialogue. :)

I enjoyed the MW Dunmer, it was a nice change from the smooth, silverytoungued imperials and Altmer

I was just about to say this. Anyone who has played Fallout 3 would know that ghouls weren't annoying despite having rough voices.

I prefer the Morrowind style Dunmer voice acting, if only because it added to their image as a people. I always had this image in my head of the Dunmer being a xenophobic, skeptical, serious-minded people as they were often portrayed in Morrowind. And so the reason I like their voices isn't just because they sounded raspy, but because it added to that image. In Oblivion, it's not just the voicing that changed, it's the entire race's image that changed. The whiny voice acting just added to it. No longer were they the quick, distrusting, dark people from Morrowind that I liked so much. Now they were just grayblue elves.

i gotta say, OB was a huge disappointment as far as the elf races were concerned. They all sounded alike (annoying), and the entire image of coolness that was built from MW around even the Bosmer was obliterated by the likes of the Adoring Fan. I can understand the cosmopolitan feel they were trying to portray, but they did a real good job of svcking the desire to be an elf out of the game entirely.

Personally, I'm not horribly picky. Just give every race/gender their own voice again. Having all elves voiced by the same melodramatic actor, blah. That just made me turn the volume down at times. Probably wouldn't have grown to dislike the voice if I wasn't hearing it all the time.

Oh yeah, I say bring back that Scottish sounding accent for the Nords. I liked that. Gave 'em character. "Run while ya still can, child."

Morrowind Dunmer are natives, and subject to the harsh climes and bitter disposition of their environment. Cyrodiil Dunmer are well-assimilated Imperial citizens - they speak like Imperials because they are Imperials.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise stripping a whole race of all culture and uniqueness was OK.

I'd like to ask. Why did the various races in Morrowind not sound more like the Dunmer?

A lot of you are making it seem like they had the voices like that for a specific person, when really that was just the voice actor(s)
Some people may have percieved that the 'raspy' voice in Morrowind was obnoxious and bad sound properties. So they changed the Voice actor, or maybe the Original voice actor was to do the DE in Oblivion, but something caused him not to (Didnt take the job, died?)

Also, aren't all elves related in some form? With that in mind, wouldn't they all sound more or less similar?
There are very few characters that have their own specific voice actor, or specific speech.

For example, it seemed to me Martin sounded like no one else in the game. Jauffre sounded like a breton. Baurus sounded like a Redguard.
Another example would be Lucien Lachance, the thing the leads me to believe he had his own specific actor or speech, is that he had dialogue that no one else in the game had, including rumors.

In Morrowind, the speech was limited to battle expressions and greeting due to the rather textbased form of conversation. With that, they only had to have the actors do a few lines and they would be done, which is much cheaper than with Oblivion where everyone talks full lines.

And with that I have nothing left to say.... Guess I'll go now.

The "Dunmer only sound raspy because of ash storms" is absolutely bunk. What about the Dunmer in Mournhold in Tribunal, they spoke with raspy voices as well, despite the much nicer climate there. It's a physiological thing. The only reason they spoke the same in Oblivion was because of lazyness. I mean really, if we're going by Oblivion here, all the Elf races sound the same? Heck no that's not right at all.

Anyway, I love Morrowind voices, it brings out the xenophobia and utter arrogance of the Dunmer.

Variety is key.

I would ok with the oblivion dunmer voice if it wasnt the same voice for all elves.

It totally suits the bosmer, so keep it for them.

Each Race should have 3 voice actors minimum.

the beast races should be able to climb trees too.

I'm not totally bothered about the voices, the only way it would ever be realistic would be for every NPC to have a unique voice which will never happen for obvious reasons. So the way I see it the voices will never be perfect, and it's pointless getting too worked up about them.

Having said that, I did prefer Morrowinds Dark elves, but I won't be bothered if they're not used in TESV.

Variety is key.

Not if the "variety" is so completely different, then it is certainly not key.

Hmm. I always reasoned that the Dunmer voice, both males and females, was dusky more from their curse from Azura, than their respective environment. Especially on the females. Whether they be matron or maid, they all sound dusky. The voice artisan, if you go through the voice files really did do a mix of voices, as there are definitely harsher spoken words and sentences, yet there are some softer ones like Juib's concern or the the female's "You flatter me with your attention, outlander."

Just depends on the circumstances.

This. Oblivion dunmer > morrowind dunmer.

Appreciated, but that wasn't really my point. It's more like Oblivion Dunmer =/= Morrowind Dunmer. They're so different they may as well be seperate races, or at least have a different cultural distinction. Much like Imperial Colovians and Nibeneans. It's all about attitude and environment.
