Morrowind Dunmer vs Oblvion Dunmer

Post » Sat Jan 29, 2011 3:28 pm

No! I won't be the target of your fire related games! :flamed: :P

I didn't want a flame war. I respect your opinion despite contesting it often.

Didn't he do other voices in Oblivion? I think I saw in a thread around here, just a few minute ago that he voiced Sheogorath... Is that correct? He also voiced a ghoul in Fallout. I doubt he was unavailable for just those few months between games.

It definately was the guy who voiced imperials that voice Sheogorath.

Actually, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Desmond

Desmond was my favorite Ghoul! :D

They've gotta bring him back, he's been in 3 of their games.

I think it may have been Haskill, you guys...

I get lost in the numerous war threads. If you like, I can tell you, though...

  • Dunmer Voices
  • Radient AI
  • Cities aren't closed off
  • My personal first look at the cliché Oblivion
  • Fast Travel
  • Better quests. Kvatch starts as a rumour. I love that.
  • The removal of Sutch
  • Graphics are far better than seen in Oblivion
  • NPC's have meaningful conversations
  • NPC's use eachother's names
  • Skill potions

This is all just off the top of my head. I might find more if I watch it again, but it burns my eyes... :cryvaultboy:

Hmm... Something strange is going on. Threads are being peaceful all of a sudden.

Holy crap, look at the time!

It's so late it's early. Damn you Bethesda Forums, depraving me of sleep! Everyone, stop making progress on threads while I'm away. Gets kinda irritating when I miss out on the debate :P

Alright, everybody, he's gone!

Discussion starts... NOW!

Ok... Real dialog between 2 Imperial guards.

"Any news from the other provinces?"
"Nothing I want to talk about."
"I've heard others say the same."
"Get away from me..."
"Bye."

Nobody will be able to have a debate because first few pages will be spammed with dead topics.

While we're on the topic of cool, unique voices, Bethesda, please keep the male Imperial voice from Oblivion.

Whilst the voice in Oblivion had far more personality to it, it's more or less been permanently imprinted in my mind to make me think of guards whenever I hear it.

Well okay, Morrowind's Imperial voice did that too. But they were less frighteningly memetic.

Notice Imperials were never the smugglers or skooma dealers....

"Hey man, you got the stuff?"

"Sure do, criminal scum."

"What?"

I've had everyday imperials walk up to me and call me "citizen".

The funniest thing is I can completely imagine that happening.

There should be a special easter egg mode in TES V that causes various strange things to happen. One of them would be to make Imperials always address others as criminal scum.

I wonder if an imperial guard would call another imperial guard a criminal scum.

Along with Dunmer calling other Dunmer Outlanders, Argonians calling each other pondscum, Khajiit calling each other house cats, and Bretons looking in the mirror saying to themselves: "I don't know you, and I don't care to know you."

That always annoyed me. "Uh, I'm dressed exactly like you and in terms of appearance I could be your brother. How exactly can you tell at first glance that I'm an outlander?"

It's all Accent. Though I'm confused in the real Jiub's case. Maybe he was born in morrowind and sent to the imperial prison, then back again.

I don't know, the low voice meant they couldn't have a real battle cry, only the women.

I loved MW's crispy, raspy Dunmer voices and their GET-OUT-OF-MY-FUC****-WAY attitude. Oblivion deprived them of their personality by changing them. It suxx because a Dunmer in E3 presentation had a fitting voice.

Besides, it seems that because of voice-acting (amount of text) Oblivion cut the amount of voice types severely, with various races "overlapping" each other (Dunmer-Altmer, Nord-Orc etc.).

I felt there should have been at least a few raspy voiced Dunmer who came from Morrowind to Cyrodiil.

That's just it - some people think that the Dunmer voice in Morrowind was unrealistically arrogant and would get annoying in fully voiced dialog. The thing is, unless Bethesda is giving a unique voice to every single NPC in the game, you can choose between everyone being a mild-mannered Oblivion Dunmer or everyone being a total badass Morrowind Dunmer.

I want the extreme Dunmer back. If TES V is in Skyrim, I'd expect most of the Dunmer there to be from around Morrowind and be the native-born, unimperialized sorts.
