[WIP] Morrowind's Epic Ladies - Wood Elves

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 5:08 am

Eltrane - Agreed. It's hard to be diverse when working with just one head mesh, so I'm trying to branch out now (with mixed results).
Sister - Good to know. Thanks for the feedback.
Chaka - Ty as always
Knots & Kirlian - Sounds cool, the problem is they don't look so good on every face. I'll try to see if I can work it out tho.
Lyssia - It made sense. Regarding the head mesh, I could easily shorten the chin in max, but then I'd lose the morph controller. She'd never be able to talk or blink. It's a pretty frustrating quandary. Either she looks bad with long hair, or she is a mannequin. >_< But yeah I agree, the face is very 'craggy'. I think I'll still release it just for a touch of variety, but I won't be working with that head anymore I don't think.
Denunci - Thanks much!

OMG! I figured out the setting in 3ds max to keep the NiMorphController node when I export!!! I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT TO THESE HEAD MESHES! I HAVE THE POWERRRRR

..ahem. Sorry. This is pretty frickin exciting though.

EDIT - False alarm. Any head mesh I modify can't be textured, just shows up white. -_-.. /facepalm

http://i.imgur.com/h56yE.jpg I haven't used this head before, kind of trying to branch out here. Having a problem though. This head mesh's chin is so long that in game if I wear long hair, it just throws disgusting shadows on her face making her look like a man. I like how this turned out but it's very limiting if it can only have short hair. Does anyone know a texturing method or trick where I can reduce her damn chin?

I can't do it in max because if I mess with it I'll lose the morph/animations, and honestly the tutorial for it is beyond me.

Well you could give her a beard and that would cover it up

It is very angular and it would be nice if you could smooth those out - equine came to my mind looking at the mesh - but I think it still works - harborgolfer used to use a soft white circular blur on his layers around the chin to soften the look and get a lighting highlight

You could try a tattoo around the chin like the maori http://www.themaori.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/picnelemanlaurentpiataheenanblog-759406.jpg - with a larger chin that might bring out the tat better - would need the black eyes to go with it imo

I found some meshes just didn't work with certain races - but this one doesn't seem jarring to me at all

Would like to see you do some men - there's always a shortage of good looking men in Morrowind

That tattoo is a great idea.. maybe I could use the eyes in this texture on something else, and turn these ones black. Thanks a lot, Illy.

I'm a newbie texturer so I'll have to take a look at Harborgolfer's stuff. Smoothing the face out is no problem IF I want to lose the animation. I'm talking with throttlekitty right now for ideas on how to keep the morph node without disabling the mesh's ability to hold a texture after being exported. Crossing my fingers.

Mel, I kind of appreciate how you respond to every comment made.
But if I would be you, I would say just release it as you think.
You know, people always throw in tons of suggestions.

But still, I love these black eyes ;)

Yeah, I love the suggestions tho. I've never tried to texture before or do anything 'artsy' so I need all the tips and opinions I can get. :)

Don't worry, you'll get some black eyes!

http://i.imgur.com/sw1EF.jpg And here's a black eyes/stylization vs normal comparison. Am I on the right track? These eyes are really tough to do, didn't think it would be this hard. :s
The tattoo/black eyes is exquisite. The tattoo perfectly embodies what I would imagine for a wood elf.

http://i.imgur.com/Jsnpr.jpg - Newest young lady. Thanks Akavir666 for this beautiful hair.
I'm as straight as they come and I think she's hot. You just keep getting better and better! Is the hair going to be part of the release as well, or should I go shamelessly beg Akavir666 to share?

You bet! I'm an unquestioning fan of the boys also and you're right, she is sixy with that hair. It's going to be in the release in several colors for my 6 races that I've done.

Your woodelves have really captured what is racially unique about them. I never really noticed that they had rounded cheeks and narrow chins until I saw your faces. It's truly incredible how good art can show people things that were always there, but never noticed. Can't wait for the release!

So eloquent as always, Elaura. I'm honored and humbled by you saying this is good art. If you could see my process you might change your mind. I barely know how to work with layers.. I DON'T know how to work with groups. I do things in such an inefficient backwards way, it's really probably laughable to someone who actually knows how to use PS software. But.. the results seem to make people happy, and that makes me happy.

http://i.imgur.com/0YHXR.jpg - Don't worry, I'm only going to do one face like this. Kind of an experiment, and also because I just think it's neato.

I don't know why you would think anyone would be worried if you made more like that. I think it's absolutely brillliant. I already loved the dark eyes, and the black, symmetrical tattoo and dark, detailed lips only make the face that much more captivating.

You are so sweet, always. Thank you!!! I just think people will look at it and feel like it's more suited for a demonic custom race of some kind. I just think wood elves have a wild side and I'm trying to show that the way I imagine it.

I totally agree, it screams "I'm a wood elf". I'd also like to see more variations like these!

I would agree with the above comments that this is extremely well made
I look forward to replacing npc heads with these

Here's a face for ya, honey . . .

:P

Now, Mel, I know I said i wasn't a huge fan of the tattooed, black-eyed Woodelf, but that one converted me. I would still cast her as a villain, but I cannot resist those lips. Lovely . . . evil-looking, but lovely.

Keep up the good work, Mel. You make the nanar happy with your faces. See? He's dancing for you:

Haha nice, that's awesome Elaura. I have sort of an 'art critic' friend (read: a nitpicky jerk) that I run questionable stuff by, and his last words on the subject were "it still looks kinda poopy." But I worked up the courage to post anyway and I'm glad I did. 8D

Eek that nanner is lookin at me funny, I better get back to work. /flee

I really like those full black glossy eyes. Her skintone and lips look realistic and so natural in the right two pictures. And I always enjoy seeing elves' ears stick out of their hair. I don't like hair that completely covers up their hair. And I personally have never liked facial tattoos either.
I'm hoping you will be doing this for all races. Will you, Meldiocre?
And I'm hoping that after you're done with these, you can also do men, and eventually children and elders. Phew... that will be tons of work though. The COM faces are a bit last generation; same with the Elders of Vvardenfell faces.

Any ways, keep up the fantastic work as always. You have lots of fans checking this thread every day.

Can you clarify that? You're saying you hope I'll give all the races black eyes, or give them ears that sticks out of their hair?

Thanks for what you said about people checking this thread a lot. That's why I do this, all I need is *one* face to enjoy the game, heh.

That DOES sound like a lot of work. Not sure I'd be any good at men or elderly people or kids. Will surely try after I'm done with the human races tho.

edit - I realize my comment about "the human races" implies that men, elders, and children are not human. NOT what I meant. Just meant to say I'm not going to do Khajiit or Argonian lmao

Oh no, I meant I hope you will be making faces in general for all the races, like what you are doing with these wood elves, for example. No, I didn't mean the black eyes specifically. In fact, black eyes seem to sway a bit from lore-correctness but Nirn is a strange fantastical planet so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some abnormalities in some births.

But yes, for now, I would say just focus on what you are doing; creating gorgeous female faces for all the races. :)

Why on Earth (or Nirn :P) would black eyes be against the lore? XD

In fact, black are are absolutely lore-correct, that's why I asked for it.

Please, it is lore-correct, don't hesitate to make more of them. The presets of Skyrim (which I also linked above) and the original faces of Morrowind both show these alien black eyes for woodelves

These are Westlys but the pix also show the original faces.

Why on Earth (or Nirn ) would black eyes be against the lore? XD

Thanks, man.
