[WIP] Morrowind's Epic Ladies - Wood Elves

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 1:33 am

Ok, going to take a crack at some Wood Elves. Only have one so far, but I would like opinions on the glowmapping in particular. IMO it needs to be dialed back a little bit, but I'm not sure. Also, need opinions on the hoods. Is this something people would be interested in as an equippable item? It comes with the long hair down the front, so if you have a short haired character, you could equip it and "let her hair down" so to speak. I'd do it in several colors. Let me know if I should! If they don't look good, be honest. Criticism is always welcome.

MAKEUP AND TATTOO VARIATIONS:
----------------------------------------------------
http://i.imgur.com/NqcF4.jpg HRMM
http://i.imgur.com/UpCof.jpg Same one with some makeup and different hair. I have to be careful here cuz this look is my personal style, and I don't want to make every face all crazy. Not everyone likes it. :x
http://i.imgur.com/AaXcM.jpg This is basically what I'm gonna do with the tattoos/black eyes. I'll do a natural version and then a version like this for most faces, if it looks good.
http://i.imgur.com/6HYTS.jpg Do you guys like where I'm going with this, or totally hate it?

NEW HEAD MESH EXPERIMENT
---------------------------------------------------
http://i.imgur.com/h56yE.jpg I haven't used this head before, kind of trying to branch out here. Having a problem though. This head mesh's chin is so long that in game if I wear long hair, it just throws disgusting shadows on her face making her look like a man. I like how this turned out but it's very limiting if it can only have short hair. Does anyone know a texturing method or trick where I can reduce her damn chin?

I can't do it in max because if I mess with it I'll lose the morph/animations, and honestly the tutorial for it is beyond me.

ME RAPIDLY BACKPEDALING ON NEW HEAD MESH EXPERIMENT
---------------------------------------------------
http://i.imgur.com/o17bT.jpg So ya, I lost my nerve and decided to just go back to doing what I know works. Couldn't get the other mesh to work with animations the way I wanted it, so meh.

http://i.imgur.com/sw1EF.jpg And here's a black eyes/stylization vs normal comparison. Am I on the right track? These eyes are really tough to do, didn't think it would be this hard. :s

http://i.imgur.com/Jsnpr.jpg - Newest young lady. Thanks Akavir666 for this beautiful hair.
http://i.imgur.com/SgFCH.jpg Stylized/black eye version - making an executive decision on this one. I really love this tattoo, I know it won't be to everyone's taste. We're keeping it tho! >:/

http://i.imgur.com/0YHXR.jpg - Don't worry, I'm only going to do one face like this. Kind of an experiment, and also because I just think it's neato.

http://i.imgur.com/puDrf.jpg Kind of wondering how crazy these have to get before you guys tell me to just go back to making natural beauties.

http://i.imgur.com/OX93M.jpg Super happy with how this turned out. There's a normal version too, just picture it with nice blue-green eyes and no tattoo and that's it.

This face looks good, but maybe you also make some faces with http://www.cinemablend.com/images/gallery/s34514/Elder_Scrolls_V__Skyrim_13142185313978.jpg? Most of the headpacks lack that feature.

IMO, glowmap looks great as-is. Then again, I'm a fan of faces with glowmapped eyes. Also, that's the first time I've seen a hood with long hair, as all the ones I've seen before with hair are short. Will it be in colors other than blonde?

Sister, I was thinking about that too. I'd like to try it, I think it looks wonderfully creepy.

Rave, yes, I would do it in pretty much every conceivable "normal" color. That's how Apachii did it in his original mod.

Chainy, I agree about the hair. That double braid thing is so innocent and sixy at the same time. :D

Yep! Going to add the wood elves' hair in the face pack this time, seems like the logical way to do it. It'll be the same hair the other races use from my hair pack, just with wood elf ears and possibly optional facial piercings, not sure yet. I might throw in an extra hairstyle if I see one that suits the race particularly well.

Okay, these are all great but I absolutely love this one.

The version with the dark eyes is also very striking.

I rather like the tattoos however it would be nice to have untattooed versions of each face as well, if possible.

The black eyes are very nice (or creepy ^_^ ... nice creepy?)

As some suggested I think tattoos (as the black eyes) should be optional. Ever thought about a glowmap tattoo? The glow should be just subtle.

(here is http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/licht13.jpg i played with once: http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/licht15.jpg and http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/licht14.jpg)

There is no such thing! Well, maybe, but certainly this isn't it. The glowmapping you do on your faces is one of the things that makes them - heh - shine. (Sorry, I'm done now.)

That hood and hair is amazing. I love the brown hair as well, and I really love how good that face looks with both shades of hair color. That's one of my tiny pet peeves; I don't really mind when a good face only looks natural with one or two shades of hair, but I LOVE when a face looks that good with any kind of hair you put with it. Beautiful work!

Again, just lovely. I really, really like the flecks of green/gold in the eyes, that seems just perfect for Wood Elves.
3rd with black eyes by request. DON'T LOOK AT THE FACE, the face is crap. Just look at the eyes. Face is getting totally redone.
http://i.imgur.com/LppnT.jpg
The eyes look great to me! I assume they are glowmapped too? I am another in favor of those sorts of eyes, being, as they were, in the vanilla game and looking so striking.

And... I have to admit, I did steal a quick glance at the face. I do like the shade of lip color and the shape of the face, I have to say.

Not lame at all. It goes really well with some of Westly's tattooed faces, actually, I could see that face working right alongside the replacer he's working on, or in a personal replacer blending a number of different modder's heads. Choice is always good, of course, but if you are up for making tattooed versions of your faces, I for one would encourage you to release them with the non-tattooed versions.

Again, both versions look quite appropriate for Wood Elves to me! I love the shading you got under the eyes, it gives a face that pretty a really natural look.

I would have to say I'm in the tattoo and black eyes, optional camp. I much prefer them with regular eyes and no tattoos, but I do find them all to be gorgeous.

Ok so based on this feedback this is what I'm gonna do I think:

*normal version without tattoos/overly made up
*made-up version with tattoos and stylized face makeup and/or black eyes
*equippable hoods in a barrel somewhere probably in Seyda Neen

The thing about the hoods is it's not my texture. I looked at it in PS and it's kind of low quality next to what I've been releasing. I'm no good at texturing anything but faces and hair, so I wouldn't really know how to fix it, but if people like the hoods I'll release them anyway. Thanks for the great feedback as always, everyone.

Sister - As for the glowmapping, it's not really to my personal taste. But as always if someone else wants to glowmap it and have it or release it or whatever, that's fine with me.

So... I'm not so lucky with it. First: The colour goes into the white of the eye (where no tattoo colour should ever go :o), making them both looking different big. Then it has no shades where shades should naturally be, like the eye... eye-caves? Eye... holes? How is it called in english I have no idea? Well... these kind of tattoos always looks to me like a stamp on my monitorscreen because it does not bend where the skin bends which it shoud be applied to, no shades where the skin shades.

I'm not sure if it comes out, what I really want to say. The texture is too flat. Does this make sense? Gah, writing conversation in a different language always leads to misunderstandings. Sorry >.<

I'm a big fan of making the elf races pretty distinctive from human races, so options like the black almond-shaped eyes and other tweeked facial structures of the more alien-ey type are always appreciated.

Anyway, nice work on these and your other releases!

I have to say, I'd pull the tattoo just very slightly further away from the eye, myself. That tattoo looks possible, but extrodinarily painful, given that it is RIGHT on the eye. I'd push it out just a little, so the outside curl edge just touched the nose, if that makes any sense at all.
Would it be easier to widen the entire face a little, so the chin doesn't look so dispropotiantly long? (I've never done any modeling, so I really have no idea how hard it is to modify a mesh in such a way.) It seems to me that if the entire face were a little rounder, it might look more natural. I actually like the longer hair better, although obviously it's hard to really see how the shadows will look out of game; with the braid, the entire mesh, in my very humble opinion, slips over the line into looking downright unrealistic. Now that said, the texturing looks amazing. I really like the green eyeliner.

I absolutely love these two:
