Morrowind Gameplay Overhaul

Post » Sun Jan 31, 2016 10:58 pm

So a while ago, a user by the name of Kingpix, one of the creators of MGSO, was creating a "Gameplay Overhaul" (http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1211599-wipz-morrowind-overhaul-game-experience/)

Does anyone here have any idea what happened to it or if there was any progress on it?

I've played Morrowind a damn long time, and even to me, the gameplay gets boring. Not because it's simple, but because it's predictable, and I like to spice things up.

Upon seeing a comment on YouTube mentioning the above overhaul and finding that thread, I wondered if I'd missed out on something huge. So, whaddya say? Help a guy out?

If there's no chance of rediscovering this, would anyone here be up to the challenge of rebooting it?

Im going to go out on a limb and say no one is going to create a "gameplay overhaul" mod compilation package. It's too much work, getting all the permissions is a pain in the ass (and probably impossible at this point), the thing would need to be constantly updated, and it's not "real" modding, it's just a collection of pre-existing mods selected to work well together. Anyone with the time and energy to create mods is going to want to actually create mods rather than mess with creating a compilation of other people's mods.

Most of the individual mods listed in that thread can be found on Morrowind Mod History website. Why don't you just pick the ones you want to use and install them yourself?

I sort of do something like this for myself, it is not easy to maintain for public use

1. it is hard enough to fix, tweak, test and make things work together with your modding world vision to bother hunting for public release credits/permissions

2. updates may happen, or may not. If included mod author X makes changes I don't like, I can keep old version with my changes

3. something that I like/include/change would probably be disliked by someone else. Suggestions could be welcome, demanding would certainly not be.

If some players really want something like this to happen, best bet is giving potential modders/overhaul curators a ready, big obtained mod permission list so curator(s) could include/change everything in that list in the overhaul.

Having said that, take a look at http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43464/?, it may be similar to what you are looking for

There is also Morrowind Rebirth. I am now looking into adding MNEM into my Tamriel Rebuilt, MGSO, Morrowind Rebirth and Solthsteim Overhaul game build.

It's not a huge amount of work to install mods yourself if you can figure out what you want. I made a large https://www.reddit.com/r/Morrowind/wiki/mods/1080pizzalist, and the vast majority of the mods mentioned on it are compatible with each other and with MGSO. It actually has a lot of similarities to the list of mods that were planned to be in the gameplay overhaul.
