Morrowind Lives! - Super-WIP Webpage List

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 3:05 pm

I'd like to "give back" the to community by making a web page as part of the Keening website that will give a brief list of some of the amazing projects (mostly landmasses) that have been in the works for several years. I'm new to modding Morrowind and for some reason I had been under the misconception that the modding community was all but dead. I don't know how popular Keening will be (Keening's facebook page has about 71 followers right now, which is modest, but Tamriel rebuilt's page only has about 12 and they are much more popular than Keening (probably because they have forums? dont know!) - so, we'll see how much good my list does *shrugs*), but as part of the website, I'd like to give back to the community that is clearly still alive and well by featuring some of the ambitious projects that are in the works. The purpose: the educate about Morrowind Modding still being alive, and to get a sense of excitement for people to have things to look forward to.

I'll be happy to create the following myself, but if I can get the following from the actual creators/ teams, I'd prefer that so that they can be properly represented:

1. Representative screen shot for the project.
2. Description of project
3. website URL/ wip URL
4. The date that the project began / prospective release date (I know this probably isn't possible - it's done when its done)
5. A little background on the creator/ team and what he/she/they have done in the past
6. Goal of the project
7. Logo, if there is one, to be added to the screen shot. (not referring to widescreen loading screen images)

--------------------

I'm focusing on Work In Progress mods that are:
1) massive
2) have been in the works for a long time
3) don't alter existing areas. Usually this adds up to new landmass mods, which are massive undertakings that deserve some hype.

Right now, I'm thinking the list would be:

Skyrim, Home of the Nords by Team
http://www.shotn.com/forums/

Lyithdonea - Azurian Isles by Melchior Dark
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1190310-super-wip-lyithdonea-the-azurian-isles/page__hl__azurian%20isles

Province Cyrodiil by Team
http://www.provincecyrodiil.com/

-Tamriel Rebuilt by Team
http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/

- Athlis Continent by Shadowsolid
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1203334-wip-the-athlis-continent-part-1/page__hl__athlis%20continent

- Continent of Yesterbreeze by Regaez
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1105000-wip-continent-of-yesterbreeze/page__hl__yesterbreeze

- Moonshadow by Vality7
http://vality.xtreemhost.com/gallery/Moonshadow.html
Note: Whether this is on hiatus or not, I'm not so worried about - this website is gorgeous.

EXPANSION SUPER-WIPS - will be on a different list, if and when I do an expansion WIP list. But because I don't want to be a judge of any kind, this list concept was not my intent.
Edit: due to arguments, this list project has been dropped.

- City of Balmora: Hlaalu Expansion by Praedator
http://praedatorsnest.blogspot.com/

- Sotha Sil Expanded by Trainwiz (Is someone else working on this now? Knots?)
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1196263-wip-expanded-sotha-sil/

------------------------------------------

Gortwog's Argonian City [This is actually a landmass, but the creator has requested that his projects not be listed, so it will not appear on my website's list.]

There was a large project of islands shaped like Azura's Moon and Star - was it Moonshadow?
EDIT: Found.

Obviously these will be added once they have some finished areas to show screen shots
Project Outreach - Elsweyr
High Rock [Again, will not be listed as per Gortwog's request]

Obviously I can't list every project in the works, but there are certainly projects that may or may not have wip threads that have been in the works for a long time and often fall off the radar while people work on it.

Thanks!

How nice! That's a good thing to do for the community! As soon as we have some screens ready, I'll send you all the info/items listed for Elsweyr.

Small suggestion: What about the Athlis Continent?

Good idea. I'll see if I can whip up a good "computer wallpaper"-looking picture for Sunfall. I might need your help with that. The more I look at the splash screen I made for it, the more horribly amateur it looks.

As for info, I have plenty of that. Even a release date (that I'm shooting for at least): May 5, 2013. That'll be eleven years to the day after Morrowind was released.

I also have Hammerfell: Sands of Deceit in production alongside Sunfall, though that's probably going to take longer.

Small suggestion: What about the Athlis Continent?

The fact that I forgot about that is exactly why I'm making this webpage.

Obviously, I can't include every WIP no matter how good it is, this list is more devoted to the projects that have been in the works for a year or so (And I mean the actual build, not concept work). I'm using that as a guideline so that it won't be my preference making people feel bad if they don't get listed. Projects that are a few months old won't be listed, simply because I don't want this list to be about me making personal judgments on unfinished works - which, I would have to do simply to narrow down the list of projects that are a month or so old. If it is big, and has been consistently in the works for a considerable amount of time, it will be featured.

Edit: added Athlis continent to the list

Also, What was the Moonshadow project that was a landmass shaped like a moon and star? That looked ambitious.

Understood.

Would Expanded Sotha Sil count? Trainwiz worked on that for quite some time, and it'll be even longer before Knots finishes it, I think.

If he wants me to, I'll list it - I don't know much about the project, or whether it is an expansion or a replacer. None of the projects I'm listing actually remove content in order to include their own content, but I'm not sure that this would disclude it from the list regardless. For consistency's sake, I was intending to make a list that simply added new areas, rather than rewriting existing ones. Because I'm not sure what this project's goal is, I'm not going to go out of my way to list it, but I certainly will add it if he wants me to. Though, if it removes existing Tribunal Main Quest aspects, it would probably fit better on a different sort of list - Mods that change or remove content rather than just add I would like to review myself before I recommend them. I'm flexible on this simply because it is very big, has impressive builds, and has been in the works for a while - so, I think it would be of interest.

Maybe at another time I can review and make another list of massive main quest enhancers, like Sixth House, Great House Dagoth, (taking the names off the top of my head), and Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins - Sotha Sil Expanded seems to fit better on a list like that, if I'm not mistaken. And, by review, I don't mean rate as good or bad (I am not a Blogger on a High Throne) - When it comes to free content like mods and webcomics, I don't offer criticism unless asked - I mean to simply try it out and give an explanation as to what the mod changes, what it offers, and what I liked about it. With mods that add their own content without changing anything, I can recommend them and just let the player experience it.

Expanded Sotha Sil does exactly what the name implies: Expand upon the Clockwork City of Sotha Sil. It doesn't touch anything related to Tribunal, though obviously with the ESS plug-in active, the Tribunal MQ is probably going to be a lot harder and take more time to get through. In true Trainwiz fashion. :)

Me, I'd include just about anything that does something in a big way, but I can understand wanting to generally limit the list to added content of an epic nature, because there isn't as much of that I think.

The way I make webpage mod lists is very time consuming because there are already a million lists, so I want my webpages to be very visually informative, yet simple. I try to make it so that people who look at my lists and don't bother to read anything (I don't assume that what I have to say is so massively important to the casual web browser) can still walk away informed. So, that takes some time editing images.

SSE is a complete redo of Sotha Sil, as well as an expansion (it's some 400 something cells big last I checked). Pretty much nothing from the original dungeon wasn't changed, but the rest of the Tribunal is left untouched. Think of it as GDR for Sotha Sil.

The list will probably be pretty short, and I just found out that one of the landmasses exists in the same location as Keening, so that makes me sadface. So, I can probably make a "part two" of the list on the same page with massive expansion/ WIP projects like Sotha Sil and Hlaalu. But, I'm going to get the first part of the list completed first.

Thank you, Praedator and Trainwiz for popping by my thread!

I will probably list Vality's Moonshadow even if it's a sitting project - It does seem to be quite anticipated, so getting a little more attention wouldn't seem a bad thing. I would say - ESPECIALLY because it may be on hiatus, I want to list it so that it isn't forgotten. Any large WIP could really be dropped and then picked up again later. I'm going to feature Tamriel Rebuilt, and the fact that it is ten years old and still in the works certainly doesn't disqualify it - people wait on baited breath for that one. A solo modder working on a massive landmass deserves a year off here and there.

Im afraid to tell you that the postion of list maker has already been filled. Our resident list maker is Midget Alien. DIE CRIMINAL SCUM!!

And could you please remove my mod from the list. Im not making an Argonian city.... Its a little more than that. Maybe you should ask people first. If you had asked, my answer would be NOOOOOOO....

Hey, that's a very cool idea, always glas to see MW getting some luv! + I noticed that after every new TES game that come around more people discover Morrowind, being mentioned as old school-the best one in the series- one (which I agree with ). So it's up to modders to present them with a whole lot of content to actually keep them around for good hehe.
About moon and star shaped landmass, I might be wrong, but I think it was work of Vality7 and I'm not sure how active he is. I wouldn't add it to the list but I'd keep my mind on it since he's so weird about being off for year or too and then comes in and posts a couple of pics that makes everyone drool and leaves again so who knows with that guy. Maybe try PMing him if you can, but since he's rather popular I wouldn't really count on his inbox having any space hehe.

Also I'd like to suggest the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1105000-wip-continent-of-yesterbreeze/page__hl__yesterbreeze, afaik it's definitely still in the works and is also a very neat landmass WIP mod. :hehe:

Cheers

The list isn't even made yet, and I mentioned your mod as an exploratory measure because I had seen your video but wasn't sure of the project's title or scope. Since my first post in this thread, I've become aware that you are working on a landmass, and it looks gorgeous. Thank you for your input, I will make sure that I do not mention, promote, or write about any projects you are working on. I don't believe that one needs permission to mention a project that has been announced, but I have no problem removing a mention of a project if the creator, who has just posted an entire album of screenshots of said project in another thread, wishes that people do not speak of it.

I updated the list in the first post with links. If anything needs to be corrected, let me know. I'll be contacting the creators/ administrators of the projects so that if they even care about what I'm doing here they have a chance to say "no, use this screenshot" or "please link to this instead" or "Nooooooooooo!" or whatever. ;)

After looking at how artfully presented and supported Vality7's Moonshadow is on his website, I'm going to list it even if it really is abandoned, though I'm pretty sue it isn't.

I'm very active on the facebook Morrowind group (which has really be growing lately) and showing my friends there a list like this is going to get them to blow their tops with excitement, You really don't know about stuff like this until you hit the forums for a while. A lot of people have only played Morrowind on the X-Box, so if I can get people excited enough for them to pick up the PC version and see what Morrowind's potential is, then my time is well-spent.

All I have is Sunfall and Hammerfell. Everything else is on hold. Except my playthrough personalization, but that's not nearly as time-consuming as the aforementioned are going to be. And I changed my mind, as I had this great vision of an island covered in sand, hiding many wondrous and dangerous things.

The link didn't work, but I'll keep this in mind if I do a landscape overhaul list. But I think Midgetalien's already got the solstheim mods list covered.

Send me a PM if you think that your landscape changes will conflict with http://www.danadarko.com/morrowind/milastahbarrow.jpg, and maybe we can collaborate on a patch when the time comes. Thanks!
