Try typing "SetJournalIndex A2_3_CorprusCure 15" in the console command. You can open the console command by pressing " ` " on your keyboard.

This will force the game to skip ahead in the quest so that you give him the gift and that he is impressed. Be sure to save before you do this just in case.
