Morrowind Modders of Old

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 2:39 am

It seems I recently hit the 10 year mark on the forums. High fives for everybody.

Haven't done a lot modding Skyrim, except for a couple of personal things.
The modding that I'm most proud of was being the co-ordinator and contributor of the Morrowind modders collaboration "http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=459".
The rules meant using only vanilla assets, and there was a tremendous amount of creativity in that one. The tower that Lady E (who hasn't been mentioned yet) did for that was pretty memorable.

;..... Since 2002

Had my hand in too many mods to remember (I think the first thing I ever did was some skins for Cait 's Critters Unleashed (TES Morrowind) that Hoghead released /shrug) . Nice to see so many from the early TES days still here. TES was/is/remains my personal hobby of choice, and I even converted my wife to appreciate the series.

/cheers

I would really like to know what J.O.G is up to these days. I know he had plans to mod for Skyrim. It feels wrong to play Skyrim without one of his mods.

Never had any release threads here, because my mods were more specific to the german community, but yeah, I did my first release back in 2002, too /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Funny fact: My first contact with this community however was, when I asked Emma for the permission to translate her Wichtgirl Adventures mod. So its her fault that I'm here /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

And no one can thank the community from that time enough, because of these people modding TES games is what it is today (even if I'm out now with Skyrim and that fancy papyrus stuff I don't get /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ) /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I wouldn't call 2005 ancient and I didn't mod for Morrowind much, but I'm around. Mostly to download Skyrim mods though, I never really got anywhere with my own mod ideas for Skyrim and I don't really have the time anymore. A lot to do, and also a lot of games I still want to play. I'll be on the receiving side for now. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hey, Quid, long time no see! I feel like I've talked to you at least a couple times, so it's nice to see you still around. /wave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

For those that don't remember me from the Morrowind Modding scene, I did a couple poorly-made, tattooed facepacks, a race mod or two, and tried and failed to organize a second Modtown. I just discovered the other day that Midgetalien improved upon my Mindflayer race by giving them their much-needed tentacles that I couldn't add due to not being a modeler, so cheers to him for doing that. I'd love to hear from Rogue_Shadow, CowGuru, or Niels; they were all very nice to me back in the day. Love seeing the old Morrowind people around, and it just goes to show you how great the modding community is.

http://www.iparadigm.org/tes-mods/morrowind/

Still around, now modding as Phinix. Finally finding the time to work on some larger projects for Skyrim...

Cool to see so many still around. Indeed, the "scene" has changed a lot since those early days. For one thing, I haven't worn makeup recently, or hung out at any goth clubs. Also, internet content has largely shifted to social networking as major homesteading communities like Geocities and Angelfire have gone by the wayside, a trend I don't particularly consider "progressive"

Still, "we'll always have Balmora." =P

CanadianIce Hasn't posted on her own forums much, and I think I remember her saying she played Skyrim on XBox, so no mods. (Ice's Hideaway could return, since we are back at Solstheim).

Last I heard, Korana had pulled her mods and quit modding entirely. Pity, she had some nice clothing mods.

As for me, my own Morrowind mod was highly controversial (Partners Unlimited). I have a few ideas for a Skyrim mod....

It's nice to see you as well, Matthew. In fact it's nice to see everyone. Every name that is brought up brings back more memories!
I found http://img179.echo.cx/img179/544/screenshot8629tw.jpg old http://img179.echo.cx/img179/4127/screenshot6784uo.jpg of mine that apparently still exist on the internet. Figured you guys might get a chuckle out of them.

I'm curious if modding has lead anyone into a related career?

I really appreciate the links. The nexus has grown and is quite useful but I know many of you guys mod for yourselves on your own website and only share when requested.
Seeing your Skyrim mods is seriously making me consider a new run through!

Well, someone made a mod for Morrowind that allowed you to decapitate people, and he got hired by BGS and is now one of the AI programmers. Obscuro from OOO got hired by... I think Obsidian Entertainment. Then, I hope to get hired by BGS...

hmmmmm, lime green!

Aerelorn.

I was 7 at the time, so there's no nostalgia for me. There is a lot of names I recognize from old mods I've played with. So that's cool.

I on the other hand, have major nostalgia. /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I was in my early 20's when Morrowind (and associated modding tools) was released, and it ended up being a hugely important part of my life. Not only was the general "gothic" fantasy theme appealing to me, with it's deep tones and immersive vision, but the construction set allowed me to explore my own creative side, incorporating aspects of fantasy and technology into structures and environments that were my own. The experience of that, immersion in a world I had complete creative control over, is difficult to describe to the uninitiated. It is one of the most rewarding creative outlets I have yet experienced, next to writing.

When someone mentioned screen shots I had to dig through my old archives and update the selection I have on my website. There are some real gems in here which I believe showcase why (heavily modded) Morrowind is still one of the best "games" ever made, thanks in no small part to all the generous and talented content creators out there:

Grumpy was amazing, and many do not know the large effect he has had on the modding community still to this day. We all grew on things older modders learned and taught us, and its kinda nice to know that.

It's wonderful to see that there still are so many of us "old modders" around /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />. It makes me feel less like a dinosaur when there are actually others who also registred here in 2002-2003. (I still remember my first post, in the Morrowind CS-forum, GhanBuriGhan replied and I was starstruck because he was my hero with his Scripting for Dummies - haven't seen him around for a long time now, though...)

Thank you Abot /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />. Good to hear that you have Vilja in tow - now I know that my voice will be interrupting you during your wanderings in Skyrim /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />.

Well, as someone wrote, in the link in my signature /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />. I haven't made so many mods for Skyrim, though... Vilja has taken up most of my time and is still doing so.

Did you have the same username back then? When you translated Witchgirl, I mean? If it's my fault that you're here, then I did a good job /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />.

Yes... we'll always have Balmora... Or Seyda Neen. I don't think any Skyrim- or Oblivion experience has come even close to the first time I was standing at the top of the Seyda Neen Lighthouse watching the two moons...

Korana's mods are all still available at Nexus, http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/users/29882
But I do believe she has quit modding.

He absolutely was amazing, and I wish he could have known what a long term impact his work has had on this community, because he always claimed that what he had done was "nuttin". Which of course wasn't true... His companion template was still the base for all Oblivion companion modding. With Skyrim it seems most modders are simply using Bethesda's follower template, which doesn't have his warping. But, of course, companions are better at following when you have a navmeshed area compared to a pathgridded one.

Or walking for the very first time from Seyda Neen to Balmora... late at night (in-game and real, 2 AM or something like that...) and then the first thunderstorm in-game starts... and the first thunder scares you to death for a moment... I will never forget that night on the release day of morrowind... ..

Yes, I thought so. On the other hand... this was a long time before the Oblivion release 2006, which is my registration date here... so I dunno. I'm irritated... oO However, you told me that another user is already working on a german version (which never get released as far as I know...) so I used my translation only for myself and shared it with a few friends of mine. I wrote you again some years later for some other reason, but I don't remember anymore what that reason was... /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> Damn, I'm getting old... /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Well I am working on a mod to bring Morrowind vampires back, even with a new worldspace added that combined with the interiors is about a mile in size if I remember right. It should be compatible with every vampire mod, since the potions only add vampirism if the character doesn't have it, and other than that the potions only buff stats, and give new spells, without altering vampirism itself. The scripting is done, the potions which provide a movement speed bonus above other things are working, the exterior is navmeshed, and all 3 vampire clans have unique bases. I still got interior navmeshing to do, minor improvements to cells, cluttering to do, and NPCS to add though.

I've lurked the forums since the Morrowind days, and used the Construction kit a tiny bit back then even though I wasn't a modder. And this specific mod may bring back some memories of Morrowind once I complete it. I remember during the Morrowind days not having to navmesh made things a lot easier, dialogue was easier if I remember right, and enchantments/stat alterations were easier. I also miss weapon resistance, and even having to repair weapons/armor to be honest.

Haha, "stalked" you would be more accurate! I signed up for a small interior but my computer crashed. I did manage to send over the "Epic of Yilgamseh" before that however. It was just a simple retelling of the Gilgamesh epic. I loved the work you guys did though. It did a great job expanding the title more than an expansion while maintaining that Morrowind "mood" and quality attention to detail.

I sent a petition to Lucas Films to fund you guys too. =P
