Morrowind Modding Interviews

Post » Sat Oct 09, 2010 12:48 am

By request (and because of my oversight), I'm creating this thread for folks to recommend people I can interview for http://bethblog.com about their modding projects.

Here's a link to the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=759308

Fliggerty - for his amazing scripting contributions

The LGNPC team - for making Morrowind NPCs less boring

Korana - for Solstheim Castle, Pelanor, the Provincial Bath Shoppe and a ton of other mods that brighten Morrowind

Princess_Stomper - she's been blogged once already, but she's recently released The Holiday Mod, Balmora Council Club, and is working on Dance of the Three-Legged Guar

Emma - for her and Grumpy's contributions to companion scripting

Timeslip - MGE

I would recommend more, but there are a lot of modders who've made huge differences but have unfortunately left the community.

I agree with Fliggerty and the LGNPC Team. Also, Vality7 for making some brilliant mods. ^_^

I don't think you would get an intersting interview by interviewing me though. :D

And of course Connary and Petiboy who both have made some amazing mods lately. ;)

Perhaps Xeth-ban as well, who is making the Ald-Ruhn temple look more like the lore suggested.

EDIT: Quite off topic but what does that M stand for Gstaff? :D

Wanna interview me? Sure, why not. You wouldn't be the first...which kind of baffles me. I'm not that great. :P

I think you ought to interview Aerelorn. You can find him easier than we can. I'd love to hear what he has to say about Morrowind modding these days.

Excellent list there. Definately Cyran0 and Ostar of the LGNPC team are worth a look. (Or whoever the actual boss is, I'm not entirely sure)

I might also recommend some of the admins from the big mods like Silgrad Tower (not sure if they still work for Morrowind, or who their admins are) and Tamriel Rebuilt (Haplobartow, Lady Nerevar, Thrignar Fraxix).

Not sure if he's still part of the scene really, but GhanBuriGhan is still around these forums, mostly in the Fallout boards, and he was the creator of the excellent Morrowind Scripting for Dummies guide, as well as the Travelling Merchants mod. I don't think he's an active modder any more, though.

I agree with everything on Monica21's list too. I also second Tamriel Rebuilt. Some beautiful work being done, all completely in the spirit of the original. The Telvanni cities from Map 1 blow me away with their good looks. It just goes to show that lore-purism can be sixy too! ;)

I would add Westly to the list for the plenty of beautiful heads, armor and new races he made and also Myrabell_Narsil for her gorgeous quality textures and creativity.

GhanBuriGhan would be great, too! :) And I have to second Fliggerty's mention of Aerelorn. If I'm not mistaken, I think he's the one who started this whole script extender business.

In the spirit of "Shameless Self-Promotion" and because I tried to send a suggestion to look at this on the Bethesda Blog that seems to "bomb off" so I am not sure that you ever got it, please look at the post on this forum http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=760912 which I think should be written up with a "Blog Blurb" because it can only help the MW community to clean up the current mods that are out there.

- Rougetet

EDIT: NO - I am NOT asking for an interview, just trying to point out something now available that should (I believe) receive widest communication possible to help with getting quality into mods that have been released.

2nd EDIT: As part of the WIP mentioned in the link content above, I have identified 110 mod authors (out of 1,250 authors reviewed) who consistently release mods on PES AND NEVER release an unclean mod AND their mods have been determined to be easy for "Noobs" to "plug and play". I plan to award all of them with a "Hall of Ascension" distinction when I later release my "Noob-Friendly MW Mod List". Now those are people you should interview. The top 3 by # of mods released are Lady Rae, Lochnarius and Dongle. Of those I think only Lady Rae is still MW modding active so would be my first choice to receive an interview. See post link above - Resource abandoned

3rd EDIT: To GStaff - disregard request to write up link in Bethesda Blog

OT, but using PES as a criteria would eliminate many mods. I don't use any community mod websites, but my own website, and I know others do too.

I agree with all the names metioned so far.

OFF-TOPIC BUT NECESSARY TO CLARIFY:
Yes, but if you look at the link to the actual Pre-Release (see pre-link in my post # 14 this thread), there is an opportunity to add these other site's mods too (which will then allow these mod authors to be "in the running" for review of their mods). The initial data collection was PES because it was easy to perform the data collection there first - most "bang for the buck". The link to the Pre-Release explains how to get the other site's mod's added during what is called the Pre-Release Cleanup Period (which ends October 15th).

Thanks for posting here too, M.

I'd propose:

Korana (who has made, and continues to make, many of my favourite mods)
Lady Rae (one of our most colourful personalities, in every sense)
Kateri (who made the Julan mod, and is the funniest person I know)
Westly (whose faces are truly amazing)
Monica21 (who co-runs ElricM.com, as well as being a talented modder with recent projects)
APY (Planet Elder Scrolls supremo)

Thanks for the mention, I appreciate it!

Also, I would really like to nitpick here:

If we use this as a requirement for being elligable for interview, many many MANY hardworking modders will not be applicable for interviewing due to the standards of "unclean" shown here.

The tool flags as unclean any mod that adds extra cells. Due to the use of persistent references in a mod, extra cells often have to be used as temporary holding areas for items (such as Ken's Test Hole is used in the game) or as dialogue placeholders (such as the cell 'Mournhold' in the game). Since the tool is marking legitimate, fully-functional mods as 'unclean', it should should be not be considered a reliable test of cleanliness.

Anyway, back on topic, harborgolfer is another fine modder who is continuing to make excellent mods for Morrowind.
Also, Darknut is making/has made an extensive dungeon crawl based on the Dagoth Ur citadel. I tested an earlier version and it was very imaginative.

Darknut and connary have both made extensive efforts to retexture the world and do beautifully at it. I'd say interview Qarl, but.. I don't think Beth lets him around these parts anymore unfortunately. Lesse.. AlienSlof for her works in both the Morrowind and Oblivion realms; she's done a wonderful job adding interesting things to our worlds.

Can't really think of any more other than that who haven't been mentioned, though I can certainly second all of those who have been. Our lovely ladies Korana, Lady Rae and princess_stomper are definitely interview-worthy candidates as well, but you gals have been mentioned already.

Well, I'll watch this and see what happens. Cya. :wavey:

Cool - great interview

I would like to Add http://lovkullen.net/Emma/index.htm I mean she made some of the best companion quest mods ...

and of course http://www.angelfire.com/games6/timeslip/morrow.html who pushed graphics where they could not go .....

not forgetting http://wrye.ufrealms.net/ who saved more than my save games and helped avoid GMST's ....

I think they really should be on the list as well as the afore mentioned names

great blog and great interview :foodndrink:
