Morrowind Mods Discussion

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:47 am

Not really sure if I'm allowed to do this but was just wondering if anyone wanted to post their favorite mods in a thread and explain what they do to help newer people decide what mods to get based on experience from others. Here are a few of mine:

1. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2735 - This mods recreates and replaces the original faces in Morrowind's character creation (except the Khajiit race) along with all the various NPCs found across Vvardenfell, it may be old but it looks great and I wouldn't play without it.

2. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=213 - This mod goes perfectly with the previously mentioned Better Heads (does not affect Argonians and Khajiit bodies) and makes bodies look much more realistic. This mods comes in 3 versions and after you pick your version it basically installs itself. Again, I wouldn't play without it.

3. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3979 - This mod replaces the original blood in Morrowind. At first, blood in Morrowind was just a cloud of red smoke but this mod replaces the original blood file and when an enemy is hit or killed actual blood drops poor out rather than red smoke. Ignore the screenshots posted, when in-game it isn't that crazy and looks pretty realistic.

4. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2487 - This mod is only for you if you have the Tribunal expansion which adds the Dark Brotherhood to the game. Originally almost any time you slept an assassin would attack you which isn't too bad but when you try and heal another comes and it makes early gameplay almost impossible. This mods prevents assassins from attacking until you meet a certain requirement which is usually obtained at a slightly higher level where fighting these assassins is manageable. I wouldn't play without it.

5. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9177 - I was recently introduced to this mod from another member on these forums and it's amazing, it adds a sense of life and realism to the game that the previous eyes didn't. It recreates alot of the eyes making them look a lot better too. I've only had it for a couple of days but it is amazing and again I wouldn't play without it.

6. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9434 - This is another face mod for the female characters in Morrowind. It adds new faces for female Dunmers, Bretons, Nords, and Altmers. I don't think I'd play female characters without this mod or its add-ons.

7. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9442 - This mod does what the mod above does but is now available for the Imperial race.

8. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9455 - This mod does the same thing as the previous two but now for Redguards.

9. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9449 - Same as the three previous mods but now for Wood Elves as well.

10. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9444 - This mods adds a few new hairstyles for female races. They look realistic and also come in different colors for each hairstyle

That's all I got for now, please share some of your favorite mods to enhance gameplay experience for everyone!!

A few of my must-have mods:
http://lgnpc.org/downloads. They are broken up by area, and they give most of the NPCs in each area unique dialog, actual personality, and even background stories or small quests to flesh them out. Adds tremendous and much-needed atmosphere to the world.
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1318147-rel-creatures-xi/page__hl__creatures. Adds a ton of new creatures, all lore-friendly or fitting smoothly in with the vanilla game, for all character levels.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=563. Adds both NPCs and enemies of all kinds. Again, good for all character levels.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7749. Smaller and adds less extra stuff than MCA, but equally good; they work together smoothly, as well, if you like feeling like the world is really well-populated.
http://download.fliggerty.com/download-113-317. Does exactly what it says; adds kids to Morrowind. Again, great for atmosphere.
http://mw.modhistory.com/download-87-2063. Gives night and day schedules to NPCs.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5780. Decorates towns and allows for things like free drinks for various lore-friendly holidays.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6173. More superb player heads and hairs for all races. If you like Meldicore's work, you'll also like Westly's. Also, I recommend his plugin-less head and hair replacer; it's not completed yet, but various races are up for download in his WIP thread on this forum.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1021. Yes, I know it sounds silly, but otherwise, you have to hit the rest button to figure out what time it is. This simply adds it in a lore-friendly way to the game.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5630. Allows you to either free slaves or claim them; if you claim them, they become companions. Again, great for realism's sake.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=461. I highly recommend this if you are going to join the Imperial Legion. Now, you don't have to wear the bad armor; just carry the badge.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2328. Makes looting tombs much more fun; there's always a chance you will wake the dead and something will attack you.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8896, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9153, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9122, and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9371. Not only adds them all to the game, allows you to travel by any of the above in real time and actually see the journey.
http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Ambient_Town_Sounds_for_Morrowind;99323 and http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Expanded_Sounds;53365. They are completely compatible with each other, and they make a huge difference, especially if you don't play with music.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1238. Adds missing rentable beds to inns that probably should have had them to start with and didn't.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9388. Finally adds an inn with a rentable bed to Seyda Neen.

Those all sound great, thanks, I'm going to download a few for sure after I try out the Overhaul mod that everyone recommends also anyone know by any chance if there's a mod for journals, I have to go like 200-300 pages back to see what to do on quests I didn't feel like doing right away

That fix comes with tribunal - you can select topics and quests and go directly to where you need to be in the journal. There wouldn't be mods for it since Bethesda already fixed that problem.

http://home.earthlink.net/~cyran0/TriggerDBAttack.htm - Cyran0's mod "... adds a short quest that creates the pretense for making the player a target for assassination. Since the quest is a condition for the Dark Brotherhood attacks it effectively delays the start of the Tribunal main quest until the player decides it is appropriate."

http://abot-morrowind.tk/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=3&catid=43&Itemid=10&-Where-are-all-birds-going - abot's mod that adds birds and other flying creatures across Morrowind.

Forgot about that one. Along the same lines, I also use and recommend abot's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=258, which adds fish and such across Morrowind.
Edit: You can also find the mod on the site JH2011 provided.

It's a great mod but it's annoying that everybody wants to kill bats.

1. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2735 - This mods recreates and replaces the original faces in Morrowind's character creation (except the Khajiit race) along with all the various NPCs found across Vvardenfell, it may be old but it looks great and I wouldn't play without it.

It's pretty much "must have mod" for everyone, but don't forget http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8737 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8931.

A few of my must-have mods:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=563. Adds both NPCs and enemies of all kinds. Again, good for all character levels.
One of the best mods I have ever used. It's everything I always wanted! More bad guys and lots of diverse people in towns/cities.

Too bad the author never really went fixing Shareel's(One of the companions you can recruit) voice. We get error message all the time she speaks and only way to fix it is by downloading older version of http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=5047 and extracting "Shareel" folder from "Data Files/sound/vo/" to your Morrowind's Data Files.

Some of my favorite mods are...

http://canadianice.moddersrealm.com/RobeReplacer.html - It replaces all Robes with better textures and uses Better Bodies, so your female character's funny bumps won't shrink anymore when wearing robe. The downside is that you have to register in order to get it, but it's worth the trouble.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9229 - Some armors cuirasses uses Better Bodies.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=1695 - Adds chickens, goats, pigs and cows in Morrowind. I love pigs.

I just completed my TOP TEN MODS for new Morrowind players web page. Feel free to take a peek, though a lot of them have already been listed by other people. These are basically my essentials that I'd recommend to everyone.

I'm working on a top ten atmospheric/ npc list, top ten tweaks, and maybe a few others eventually.

I don't really have any favorites that much but a few I can mention...

Creatures XI - 10/10 Creature Mod, I say.

Solstheim Castle - Best Castle Mod out there, I say.

Abot's Waterlife - Makes Swimming fun!

Slof's Better Beasts (Civilized version) - I need this mod if I play as an Argonian.

It's very difficult for me to narrow the list down to ten, so I'll just go with the ones I can think of right now. These don't go in any particular order, except for my favorite mod of all time, which I will list at the end:

10) Vality's Ice Caverns Enhanced: This makes ice caves look ten times better than they did before. No one who explores Solstheim should go without this mod.

9) Chainy's Weapons of the Third Era: No better replacer for the regular vanilla weapons out there.

8) Bahamut's DrakeKnight Armor Conversion: Greatest armor I've ever seen that doesn't make my game want to kill itself. I know Jojo actually made the armor, but if not for Bahamut, I wouldn't be able to use it.

7) Westly's Dwemer Ruins Retexture: Makes building Dwemer ruins a lot more fun.

6) Better Heads: Though other modders have made better looking heads, this one actually replaces the vanilla ones, and contains the only Orc heads anyone's done so far that I actually like.

5) Mountainous Red Mountain: Best thing anyone's done to change a part of the face of Vvardenfell so far.

4) Wolli's Moesring Mountain Overhaul: The MRM of Solstheim.

3) Kalamestari_69 New Anything: He's done replacers of a few things, and they're all freaking awesome.

2) Connary's Textures: Very little of my game ISN'T using his textures.

And favorite mod of all time is...

Antares' Mehrunes Dagon Creature: He let me fight a Daedric Prince and actually win. And for that, he is my hero.

Like I said, there's plenty of other mods I love, more than I could list here, really.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=1695 - Adds chickens, goats, pigs and cows in Morrowind. I love pigs.

You got this one to work? It crashed out on me when I clicked on a chicken.

A few more I can contribute...

Melian's teleport mod: This is a must-have for mage characters. No limit on marks, compatible with companions, makes escort quests a breeze and I don't have to walk everywhere.

Ascadian Rose Cottage DX: A beautiful improvement on an already-beautiful mod.

CM Minor Quests: A good way to earn money early on in the game.

No CharGen Message Boxes: Does exactly what the name implies, making starting a new game much less annoying for anyone who's played Morrowind more than a few times.

Galsiah's Character Development: I can't stand the vanilla way of leveling, so this is always a must in my setups. It makes leveling a bit more organic.

Alright. So my favorites are:
Morrowind Patch Project (look around for BTB's edited version)
Vvardenfell Visages (I use this, and install westly's pluginless on top of this, but I would't recommend it for a new player.)
Better Bodies

I'm not going to list most texture and mesh replacers, as those are really subjective. I would recommend the stuff that comes in MGSO, and once you get more experienced, Mix N' Match.

Once you've gone through the game mostly vanilla:
Blasphemous Revenants
Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins
True Lights and Darkness (comes with MGSO)
Tamriel Rebuilt
Probably the other Province mods when part of them gets released

And if we're allowed to list external utilities:
Morrowind Code Patch
MGE XE (I would only use this after running through the game before, so you can see the difference, and get a feel for Morrowind)

Nope. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9433, and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9404

True Lights and Darkness (comes with MGSO)

Wow. Just, wow. How did I miss this one? This is like night and day - literally. This does far more than adjust light and darkness, it totally revamps how light is handled. Gorgeous! I feel like I need to re-do all my screenshots, lol -:P

Wow--gorgeous delivery! Those wonderfully constructed before/after pics ought to give newer players afraid of installing mods the perfect picture of what they do, to encourage them to start out with a few. Well done!

Well, thank you! I'm glad someone appreciates it. I only recently started seriously massively modding my game myself last fall (for 9 years I just used better heads, domina, and multimark - my brother set those up and I was intimidated about looking for more on my own), and only became a modder last December, so I remember how hard it is to get started, digging through lots of lists that had small or dark pictures, or no pictures at all, and lists that were so long I just picked a few and missed out on some good ones until later. People complain about divine domina but I think my before/ after really drives the point home. Lists and recommendations are how we find our mods, and get a consensus of what's best by seeing things mentioned on multiple lists.
