Morrowind in Morrowind and Oblivion

In Morrowind, you will notice that the land is on an isolated island. But in Oblivion, you see that it is attached to the province of Cyrodill. What the deal?

See that big island in Morrowind with the volcano? That's where Morrowind takes place. It's called Vvardenfell.

You only visit one city in mainland Morrowind in Tribunal. Two if you count the clockwork city.

Slight Tangent: Was Vvardenfell separated from the main as a way of containing the PC in Morrowind, or was it always discrete?

Yeah, but it wasn't called Red Mountain in Arena. It was just called Dagoth Ur.

I never played Arena. Was the Dagoth Ur we know around back then?

Nah, in Arena "Dagoth Ur" was just a place name I think.

Wait, actually now I vaguely remember him being mentioned by Dunmer NPCs as the devil or somesuch... Or Red Mountain as the home of the devil? Something like that. [censored], I'm tired. I should boot up Arena.
edit: the above seems to be confabulation on my part.

It was always discreet, but the original game took place in all of Morrowind (that is after it took place in Summurset).
