Morrowind Museum Plan

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:25 am

My character in game (Mordigant) has completed the main quest, and also collected all 33 of the next-to-impossible-to-find artifacts in the "Tamriel Lore" book sitting by the dwarf in the Corprusarium. So I've decided to build a little "museum" somewhere in the game world. Here is my plan.

The museum is going to be in a Daedric shrine due to the majestic architecture and giant statue. I have not chosen one to clear out yet but it should be one relatively near a fast-travel town and preferably be smaller (one room is ideal). This would make the statue the centerpiece of the museum. Shrine statue rooms are usually square, so there will be four different areas, one on each side. Ramimilk near Ald'Ruhn is the obvious choice but I've ruined that location by overloading it, attempting to also place my library there, making the "Overflow Loot Bag" appear. Once that bag appears in an area, stuff you place in that room goes to the bag automatically when you leave, even if you've taken out all the items in the room. It's an annoying permanent effect.

The first area, in front of the statue, is the "Armory". It will contain various (complete) non-enchanted sets of armor I've collected. Because of the room item limit, and this being the only area not with a specific theme, further armor collecting will be limited to armors I personally think look cool. So far I have a set of Indoril armor (what Temple guards wear), Orcish armor (my character's armor of choice so it's a second whole set I own), and a partial set of Glass armor which I plan to complete later.

To the left of the statue, in the area near the left wall, is "Nerevar's Hall". This area will display various artifacts associated with the later stages of the Main Quest. First, Azura's Star (received via the non-storyline Daedric quest for the goddess) will be placed, representing Azura's role in the Nerevar story, along with Nerevar's legendary Moon-and-Star ring. Next to these will be placed the symbols of the four Ashlander tribes and the three Hortator artifacts from the Great Houses. Following, the end-game artifacts Wraithguard, Keening, and Sunder required to destroy Dagoth Ur. The final portion of this area will be a little Dagoth collection containing the artifacts taken from the eight Dagoth bosses, plus a generic Dagoth amulet of the kind that all named Dagoth priests carry.

To the right of the staute, in the area near the right wall, is the "Hall of Legends". This area will contain all 33 of the legendary artifacts. I know there are many more unique artifacts that did not make the Lore book but due to the room item limit I am limiting this exhibit to the 33 that did. It will be in three sections. In the first area, nearest to the armory, will be the four cuirasses, two shields, and three helmets. The next section will contain the fourteen weapons, and the final section will contain "accessory" type items (the eight rings, pair of gauntlets, and boots.)

Behind the statue, there will be one other exhibit: the Sanguine collection. I did the Morag Tong quests but instead of turning these items in I killed the boss to take the final one. He probably deserved it. The back area will also contain two (useless in the game) musical instruments (a drum and a lute) I found in an abandoned shack near Gnaar Mok, since I am a musician in real life.

The museum will also receive my final cast of "Mark" once every item has been moved in. My character will spend a great deal of time there, reminiscing about the many adventures required to collect everything.

I also have a large collection of books, but due to the room item limit I will have to put them in a separate facility. I am considering clearing out a room in a town so I can fast-travel there, because only one place can be marked at a time. Murder might be necessary, but I don't get a penalty if I taunt the current occupant of the room into attacking me first.

There will be screenshots of the museum if possible in my soon-to-be resurrected blog.

It's done! A total of 240 pieces are included. The museum is at Almurbalarammi south of Holamayan. The library is still being set up, but it's in a shrine in the St Olms sewer in Vivec.

For those of you in the "pics or it didn't happen" group, please see the following:

I can safely add 15 more pieces before triggering the Overflow Loot Bag, so I will be going through my collection in my storage facility and deciding what I want to add, will be redoing the two downstairs "rooms" of the entry hall and maybe adding a few more things to the sparsely-decorated front end of the main room between the armory and the statue. I probably won't update the pictures for a while. I might even make the two entry hall downstairs rooms "travelling exhibits".

15 more pieces eh? Well if theyres any artifacts that you may have missed, go out and find em. All of the artifacts from the Tamrielic Lore book would be a nice addition to that already redicolous exhibit you already have

What are you going to do about guarding the artifacts? Who would best suite this job and what should their appearance be?

Do you plan to use glass display cases?

I have Xbox so no mannequins or glass displays. I don't really need guards as NPC's generally aren't programmed to leave their spot. However, I think for aesthetic purposes I might add 6 or 7 Winged Twilight guards. Vercetti, I already have all the Tamrielic Lore artifacts in the exhibit.

Now that, if I had to sum that up in one word, that word would be redonkilous! Bet that took quite some time too

I can't put in books because that would trigger the OLB, though I have them stored in a library in the St Olms sewer shrine. Getting the Tamriel Lore artifacts, Sanguine collection, and stronghold propylon indices did take a while.

And when I sold all the spare loot I picked up while questing and stored in a secret facility, I got over 400K gold- way too much to spend!

There will be a new project: an expansion branch to the museum, probably in Venim Manor in Ald'ruhn (since the main resident is dead anyway and it also has nice architecture). Unlike the main museum, the expansion branch will contain no unique items, except the head of Scourge. It will however contain every basic unenchanted weapon and shield, all 29 basic robes, some other basic decorative items, and I'll probably move some novelty non-story books over from my library at Vivec because that's filling up fast.

An addition the the manor branch, I like the idea of having the non essential things there as well as the fairly cheap items. But why not put some fairly valuable things in there: ie- enchanted items that are cheap, a few pieces of armor sets that you already have in the Daedric ruin. Things that arent neccesarily very valuable and expensive but give the tale of the tape that you need a mansion to hold things of that nature.

Just a thought

By "every basic weapon and shield" I merely mean the unenchanted ones. The branch will include very rare stuff like glass, ebony, and Daedric weapons and shields. There is going to be quite a bit of valuable, although nonmagical and nonunique items, on display. The idea is that a "visitor" (which I know won't really exist) would enter the museum while passing through the city, and see enough that they would want to make the journey to see the even rarer stuff at the main museum, or visit my library.

Oh that I see what your intention was. My first thought was you were just going to put things that were unchanted and cheap in the manor, but now I see. And it wont happen the visitor thing, but what keeps me doing redundant things like that is just the thought of it actually happening.

Morrowind Museum Mach 2

I decided I should share my museum plan with the world! I installed the PC version of Morrowind so I could use the plugin editor and make the museum there. There are at least a few advantages with going PC:

1. Access to the items from Tribunal and Bloodmoon
2. Access to mannequin scripts to make showing armor and weapons more efficient
3. Creating the museum as a plugin and sharing with the world when complete
4. 1000 item per room limit instead of 256 (and most of the items that were going toward the original count will now be on mannequins, so won't count towards room maximum anyway)
5. PC version has better texture quality for objects
6. Easier to do screenshots

The current status of the museum development is that the armory section is complete, the robe gallery, and the legendary artifacts (weapons are now on the armory mannequins) except the rings which I want to put on a display table. The Sanguine collection still needs to be added, as do the Dagoth and Nerevar collections, probably also on display tables. There might be some bookshelves, though I may just create a second room if I decide to do the library. Entrance to the museum will be at the bridge into Vivec Foreign Quarter near the boat and strider. I will also need to add some decoration in the entry area to the museum. I'll probably also add creature "mannequins" if possible.

you're going to have to either put in an extreme guard(that can see everyone) or make it so people can't pick up the artifacts (by level 5 they can kill a few twilights and steal some unique weapons, little work) i would suggest five copies of dagoth ur that won't attack unless being attacked or seeing someone steal something.

No guards needed. All items lying around have a "no pickup" script and the mannequins are invincible making accessing their inventory impossible. There is however a passive Dagoth Ur mannequin.

Status: human mannequin scripting functional. Some creature mannequins have been placed, want to add a few more, but still playing with the script. Non-mannequin displays haven't been started yet, except the legendary rings. An additional cell for the library has been added, structure still mostly empty though 36 Lessons of Vivec has been added to the only bookshelf installed so far and water level has been set in the cell basemant for a garden.

I would recommend getting a graphics enhancer mod, then it could be VERY impressive to watch.

Its neat, but most of those the ACTUAL Museum in Mournhold will take half of those and put them on a splendid display, which looks a bit better than them just being on the floor.

I recommend raiding/claiming a house for your own. Nerano Manor has a lot of nice tables for you to use, the only NPC there factors in a couple very minor quests.

I don't have anything "lying on the floor", some stuff is on mannequins and other stuff on display tables. Plus by doing a plugin museum, I could still quest for the versions of the items I CAN pick up, and sell those to the real museum, which quite frankly doesn't have as much stuff on display.

LOL! Seriously though, I added my Xbox character (with same face and outfit) and he tells a little bit of the "history" of the museum, in which he will mention that after collecting the artifacts, he created replicas of them knowing he wanted to make a museum, and returned the originals to the places he found them. Doesn't always work right in continuity (based on the item) but makes sense given the items are "glued" to the tables (or mannequins) and the originals in the game world remain where they always have been (unless they are taken). I haven't decided yet whether or not to sell unenchanted "replicas" of some of the items in a "gift shop" situation or to give hints about where the real items are, but as part of the plugin I may or may not try to make the real Spellbreaker accessible to non-vampires as the other Tamrielic artifacts are.
