Morrowind's Music

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:17 am

I am gonna be hated on for this no doubt, but I don't understand why everyone raves so much about the Morrowind soundtrack. The amount of tracks seem to be very few, and they get unbelievably repetitive after a while. I also don't particularly like hearing the game's main theme in-game, it doesn't seem right to me. Takes away the epicness and beauty of the main theme when it comes on so often. I do like the Morrowind soundtrack, don't get me wrong, I just don't think its anywhere near on par with Oblivion's, which was stunning, and Skyrim's which has a long, atmospheric piece rather than a few melodies which you hear way too much.

Just my opinion :)

Neither do I. I was so disappointed in the soundtrack I even composed some songs of my own.

Agreed. Another thing with the Morrowind soundtrack that annoy me quite a bit is the lack of proper dungeon music. You're deep into a scary dungeon, and what do you hear? Happy explore music, that's what. Such a mood breaker.

Yeah, back in 2002 one of the first things I did in the game was to delete the main theme from the explore folder, so I never heard it while playing.

I'm not particulary fond of the Oblivion soundtrack either, or Jeremy Soule as a whole. He did manage to pleasantly surprise me with the Skyrim soundtrack though, but there are still plenty of game composers I consider better.

Ah, good to know that someone agrees with me, Freddo. Was expecting some sort of backlash when I noticed that someone had replied to this post, knowing how the majority of TES fans are when it comes to Morrowind.

Agreed. In fact music aside, Morrowind's dungeons just don't appeal to me at all. Only Skyrim has presented me with dungeons that I enjoy delving into.

I love the main theme to Morrowind, but i'd tend to agree - overall, the soundtrack comes across as very repetitive, with the main theme playing far too often in game.

Oblivion's soundtrack is my favourite by far. Not just in the series, but for games in general.
