Morrowind , A new experience.

Post » Mon Apr 18, 2011 2:56 am

I haven't played Morrowind for years, not since before Oblivion was released. I recently got MW again via steam and was wondering how far the modding community has come over the past 5 or so years. The last thing i remember was an amazing texture pack by Qarl, that's around the time I stopped playing Morrowind. So, what's new? What's essential? What's amazing?

It's crazy what music can do to a person, I came across this randomly on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPw1nJxMvS0&feature=BF&list=PL058A13BE1FB706A5&index=1

5 minutes later I downloaded the steam version of the game, it's like someone smacked me across the face with a nostalgia hammer.

Start with ToMorrowind....

Pretty much, this setup is outstanding as a baseline...

Read through BTB's guide here: http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html. He has alot more balancing things in his setup than Povuholo's, so if you are into that, you definitely want to read and DL some of the stuff in BTB's list.

EXCELENT! I'm already DLing a bunch of these as I type this. But I remember one mod that added a bunch of faces for the PC. I can't remember what it's called but when I was playing it was a must have mod, I specifically remember the female dunmer faces, they were amazing. It wasn't on the nexus or planet elder scrolls either, someone had it on their personal ws. Does any one know what I'm talking about? If not I understand, I'm being extremely vague.

Morrowind definitely earns a spot in my top ten PC games of all time. Was it perfect? Not by a long shot, but its the amazing modding community that first convinced me to buy the game in the first place, back around '03 or so. It was the first open world game I ever played and I loved it, I loved the freedom to roam around and do whatever I want when I want...since then I've been hooked on the whole sandbox phenomenon. Morrowind will always have a special place in my heart and so will its modding community, they've produced some of the most amazing mods of any game I've ever played, from Morrowind Comes Alive to Morrowind Graphics Extender, they never cease to amaze me and I look forward to seeing what can be done with TES V: Skyrim in a new engine. I love Oblivion too but I miss the more dark atmosphere from Morrowind, even the music is better. I hope Skyrim returns the series to its dark roots (but not as dark as Fallout 3 or New Vegas - I love both of those games but that kind of darkness does not IMO belong in TES).

It might be http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7039&id=6173 or maybe one of http://lovkullen.net/Emma/faces.htm. But like you mention, there are many good headpacks out there to choose from.

Some of these images are pretty inspiring and will help you get started

Google Images search for "Morrowind MGE"
http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&source=imghp&biw=1676&bih=841&q=morrowind+mge&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Google Images search for "Morrowind 2010"
http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&biw=1676&bih=841&gbv=2&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=morrowind+2010&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Try searching youtube for terms like these too.

And this is a little dated but it's what got me interested after all these years:

Something amazing awesome that has come around int he past five years? http://search2.yacoby.net by Yacoby. Searches multiple Morrowind and/or Oblivion mod sites all at once. :)

If there's two kinds of mods I love the most its clothing mods and face/head mods. ;)

I have about 5 head/face mods at the moment. And thats mainly because they are multiple head/face mods packed into 'complete' or 'master' sets.

UQForgotten's Master Face Pack
Westly's Master Head Pack
All of Emma's Faces (which is actually like 5 headpacks and doesn't have an "all-in-one" package)
Loch's Master Head Pack
Better Heads (duh!)
--this spot reserved for Illy's Heads--

xP You can imagine how long it takes me sometimes to create a new character with all those faces and hairs. I also have a few hair packs, but I'm not on my home PC so I can't give you a list of those.

I had considered getting Vardenfell Visages, but I don't remember if I did or not....Oh and I have vampire faces too, but I don't recall the names either. That'll have to wait till I'm home as well.

You'll have to be more specific about your headpack, your sign up date says 03 and I can remember a dozen headpacks that have either disappeared or become rather outdated and forgotten since then. My guess on your best bet would be to head over to Mythic Mods and check out Telespheros list to see if it's on there.

I would use Westly's NPC replacer for Nords/Orcs , High Elves/Bretons. His pack for Imperial & Dark Elves is yet to be completed. I use the modular Imperial & dark elves from Better Heads until then :)

Ok these are actually better than what I was looking for. Yes, these will do just fine.

Thanks for the help everyone!
