Morrowind not recognising graphics card?

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 10:20 am

I recently bought a new laptop with a gtx950m card, but in the MW launcher, it will only recognise the integrated card, how can I get it to recognise the gtx950?

Does it help if you change the NVIDIA control panel settings to always using the discrete GPU?

Have done that, but Im still not getting stellar performance tbh, was wondering if by going the control panel method rather than the MW launcher, not all of my GPU was being used?

I can pick which graphic card I want to use when I right-click application - I have 'run with selected graphic processor' item there.

Yeah that's another way, just curious why its not in the MW launcher. Nvm.

I believe it is because the application can see only the graphics card that is used to run it. At least from my experience no application allowed to pick different card when it was already running.

You can disable integrated graphics card in bios.

I don't think it matters which card is displayed in the launcher. When a graphic heavy application is launched, the dedicated card kicks in automatically. To make sure check under Manage 3D settings>program settings in NVIDIA control panel and see if Morrowind is listed. If so, then the game uses the dedicated card. If not, you can always add Morrowind.exe to the list.

I don't recommend this. Having the dedicated card always running, drains the laptop battery needlessly.

Yes, but not always. And in the case it does not kick in it is necessarry to set it to the program via NVIDIA control panel as you mentioned.
