Morrowind now backwards compatible with 360

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:45 am

That's a TV issue... some new TVs allow you to stretch, zoom or crop HD signals but they're rare and the more expensive sets. Morrowind actually looks really good cropped on the top and bottom, called Wide Zoom on my Sony, so I agree it svcks not to be able to do that.

That is not a TV issue. Some games on the 360 supported true widescreen and those games will be in widescreen when upscaled to 720p. Morrowind did not support widescreen and so will be upscaled in 4:3. When you are using the option on your television to stretch the picture you are using a feature of your television. But, the picture that is being delivered to your television by the 360 is a 720p 16:9 picture which actually consists of a 4:3 picture with black bars on the side.

You're not understanding me...

If a game is 4:3 on the Xbox and upscaled to HD on the 360 it's a TV issue on whether you can stretch, crop or zoom it to remove the black bars. Some newer HDTVs can stretch or zoom HD signals but most cannot.

And I am saying that the ability for your TV to stretch, crop, or zoom an HD picture is a feature. It is not an issue with televsions that can't as most HD content will be in a widescreen format. In cases where the content is not in widescreen format it is nice to have the feature you describe.

Been awhile since I played Tribunal, I got a little lost in Ebonheart before I remembered exactly how to get to the council chambers. I'm such a loser some times.

Same apology as before- Sorry for the choppy capture quality. The Codecs I have installed cant perform live capture at a ful 30fps.

Not a big problem, but its not possible to use saves from the original Morrowind on your GOTY edition on the 360.

With the right equipment, you CAN get the saves off.

Behold, Two fantastical devices from Datel Incorporated:

Behind Door number 1)

http://us.codejunkies.com/shop/product.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=&r=0&l=1&ProdID=403-- This fabulous device sits between your XBOX360 and its hard drive unit, allowing you access to the data on the drive via highly convenient USB2.0 leech cable! Not only does the device add a bit of BLING! to your new console, with its stylish blue LED lights, but it allows you to push and pull saved games from the console as well! But that's not all! If you also purchase a Datel actionReplay XBOX, you can pull saved games from your original XBOX console to the PC, and then push them to your new 360 console!

Behind Door number 2)

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Datel-Xport-360-Xbox-360-Docking-Station/sem/rpsm/oid/164595/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do The Datel Xport is like a docking station for the XBOX 360 hard drive unit, AND Xbox360 memory cards! Competatively priced with the XSATA, this device also comes as a full savedgame integration solution, coming with an oldskool XBOX to XBOX360 adaptor cable for use with the docking station, allowing One-Stop game save transfers!

Now Dave, Which will it be!? Door number one, OR DOOR NUMBER TWO!?

/turns off gameshow host voice/

Anyway-- the statement that you cannot pull your savedgames from your old console is bologna.

That wasn't what I was talking about, Wierd. What I meant was, if you play the original Morrowind on your 360, and create a save game, you will be unable to use that save on the GOTY edition.

I just so happen to have both disks.... I think I will try that right now!

*edit*

Confirmed. This is likely due to the new storage method used by the 360. I have ordered the XPORT device today, and it should arrive in 3 to 5 business days. When it arrives, I will experiment with the file's location information, to see if I can circumvent this little snag.

If you have old MW saves, and a means of copying them-- the obvious solution is to open your old save on your old XBOX, then save it with GOTY, then pull that GOTY save over. Less haxorific, and mostly painless.

I however, revel in difficulty, and look forward with baited breath for the day my package arrives. Until then, this bug stands confirmed.

Well its about time. We all know Morrowind is Probable the largest game for Xbox... but it took way to long. But i am glad that it has finally arrived. I bet about a million people bogged live down for a bit just to get the update and play the game :)

Its unfortunate because I like to use some of the glitches present in the original Morrowind to give my characters some unfair advantages. :)

Well Ill be damned. Of course, this could only have happened a couple of weeks after I finally broke down and spent 20 bucks on the PC version.

I'm extraordinarily happy I can play it on my 360 now, but a tad disapointed that in order to get it full screen on my 720 HD TV I have to reduce the resolution to 480... None the less I believe it's technically HD if you leave it at 720 and don't mind the black edges around the box that is the game. Must have taken a rather large team to make this happen given the complexity of the game and its already large quantity of glitches.

hd is when there are more than 1 million pixels, has nothing to do with color, aspect ratio, "sharpness/crispness," size, etc.
720x480 isnt a million pixels. Standard def
1280x720 (or 720p) is almost a million (which is why it isnt true or "full" hd)
1920x1080 is over 1 million pixels and is true/full high def

Dont forget the difference between 1080i and 1080p. IMHO, 1080p is by far the superior of the two, as it doesnt interlace every other frame to fake a full 1080 scanlines. (for 1080i, it is actually 1/2 of those 1080 horizontal scanlines that get displayed every other frame. this effectively cuts the video band in half. This is why it is so popular-- not because it is the better format, but because cheapskate hardware makers and cable companies can cheese on the signal band. 1080p shows *ALL* 1080 scanlines EVERY frame.)

I would use my Xbox version now if that didn't have a nervous breakdown and if I hadn't previously bought PC version.

Of course 1080p is better than 1080i. No one disputes that. It's 720p vs 1080i that people debate about, but i think most (smart) people agree that 1080i is better.

I performed some experiments today. My datel XPORT arrived in the mail earlier today.

I attempted to get that Platinum Hits save to import into GOTY by manually moving the save into the proper folder. It DID see it, however it refused to import it, foolishly thinking it was allready GOTY, and anticipating the new digital signature mechanism, which it didnt find. As a result, the save failed hash-check, and couldnt be loaded.

Solution-- Import your games into GOTY on an original XBOX console, save it as a GOTY save, then pull the GOTY over with the savedgame backup device.

I will continue experiments later when I get home tonight.

Why the [censored] would they go to the trouble to make it backwards compatible and not let it work with a AV HD cable?? I have my 360 plugged into my PC monitor and Morrowind still refuses to work. Updating the 360 was a waste of time, and I was so excited.

I am NOT happy..

What are you talking about? How you have your 360 hooked up should not effect what games you can play on it what-so-ever. I'm using HDMI on my Elite, it works great.

Awesome! Freakin', amazing news! I realize I'm a little late, but I just found out. I just happened to be checking the backwards compatibility list because of a promo for it on the Xbox site. I was scanning down checking out the new additions and thinking "Man they added a lot of crap." when lo and behold there it was. I couldn't believe my eyes. I did a triple take as my eyes popped out of my head and my jaw dropped. Thank you Microsoft, Bethesda, and anyone else who had a hand in making this possible. I've spent more than 360 hours playing Oblivion, 240 hours on a level 40 character and 120 on a level 32 character. I'm still nowhere near completing it, but I'll have to put it aside for a while so I can get back to some Morrowind. I have had my eye on that Datel Xport since Christmas just so that I would be prepared for the day when this wonderful event occured. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. I have a Morrowind GOTY character from a few years ago that is a level 68. I would like to transfer that over because with all the Xbox error crap I was still a long way from finishing the game. Thanks Diviner. You've done a great job.
