Morrowind now backwards compatible with 360

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:06 am

Hopefully we will be seeing more players both coming back, and starting Morrowind.
Indeed, but you can't buy MW GOTY for the Xbox anymore. (I own MW GOTY luckily) It's out of production i think. Ebay is the only solution. :(

I really doubt that Beth is going to make the Mods compatible with the Xbox version, it would be too much work and they are probably very busy making TES5 and Fallout 3.

Yeah, I wouldn't bet on it.

BTW, if anyone was wondering, the Platinum Hits version works fine as well. Has anyone that doesn't have Live tried to get the update this http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#disc?

I can't find the update to download (a link to the update would be nice), although it doesn't help I've got dial-up, it takes way too long to look.

I've never updated my 360, so it's still version 1.0 I think..

On the link I provided, click on "here" where it says...

Original Xbox Game Support
July 2007 update here...you'll then download a zip file...

Anyone with GOTY notice if you can play the expansions?

I will find out tonight. Another useful tidbit that Mods should be made aware of, is that it *IS* possible to get the old saved games off their old console in a legal and legitimate manner.

Datel makes a product called http://us.codejunkies.com/news_reviews.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=$&r=0&l=1&p=8&i=8990&s=8 that sits between the 360 hard drive unit, and the 360 itself, and allows apparently direct access to the HDD unit. As my signature may suggest, I have my own reasons for being interested in this product, but because this is a commercial product and not a hackjob, I feel it should be mentioned here, since it could save MANY users a good deal of greif.

This is typical. Just when I decide to buy the pc version because I thought they would never make it backwards compatible a few days later they actuly do. :banghead:

Look a couple posts above. The Datel XSATA product lets you push saved games onto the xbox360 drive. Datel makes another, now obsolete product which can also be obtained from that vendor called "Action Replay XBOX", which lets you plug old XBOX memory units into it and pull saved games off. Combined, you can put your old Morrowind saved games onto the XBOX memory device, push it to a PC, then use the XSATA device to push the saved game to the 360 hard drive. No need to lose that old character just because Microsoft decided to change memory card formats.

I cried when I saw the news on BethBlog today. Not a tear rolling down my cheek or anything like that. I wept. I sobbed like a little girl. This is the greatest news I've ever heard in my entire life. I spread my love to all Xbox users here. Today is our day. :mohawk:

As a side note, one of the comments on the bethblog page said even though you could play goty, the expansions didn't work. Any confirmations or news to the contrary would be much appreciated.

Much love,

With the BC update can you play the expansions on the Goty version? This was asked before but I did not see an answer to the question.

Wait a few more hours. My shift will be over in an hour and 12 minutes. Then I can go home and do the testing. I will make a char with alchemy as a primary attribute, and make potions ad nausium until my level jumps over level 5, and I get attacked by DB assasins. I will then test Tribunal, then Bloodmoon.

I personally dont see why the expansions WOULDNT work, as I know from experience that they are all contained inside the main ESM file for GOTY XBOX. If the game starts at ALL, it should go. I will investigate for anomalous behavior though, but not until later. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.

Fabulous! I will still perform my own tests when I head home... Too late for me to start a new project at work, so I just sit and watch the clock.

I am home and doing my testing now. Game of the Year edition.

I used the CD method, as I didnt want to run out and get one of those XBOX live account activation cards from walmart. I blew ENOUGH cash on the system itself today.

The CD method of installing the update worked like a charm.

I am now playing the game on the 360 right here next to my computer. In fact, I am using my TV card to see it while I write this very message.

Right off-- I have noticed a visual bug. On the save/load screen the screenshot thumbnails for saved games is garbled. This is cosmetic, and the game allready runs much better than it does on my original xbox unit. (then again, my original machine has one of those less than spectacular DVD rom drives in it that give constant dirty disk errors. This is a nice and welcome change.)

I will edit this post when I get to the tribunal expansion.

*edit*

The bug above seems to disapear after saving inside an interior cell. The Tribunal Expansion test will have to wait until tomorrow, because I have to sleep, so I can go to work tomorrow. Gnight.

Yes, bummer :( :wall:

But then, you get all the cool user made mods for Morrowind, like Emma's Children of Morrowind and some of the now dear departed :( Grumpy's excellent mods (available at Elric M's site ;) ). You can get a mod called Julian Ashlander as well as mod called My Little Peligiad Mod and the new Seyda Neen mod - and all kinds of cool usermade modifications for the game --- .

So in both cases

:celebration:

is OK

There's a whole world outside the USA, meaning that i live in Europe :P (Netherlands to be exact with no Amazon available ;) ).

Along with this bug, the game's aspect ratio seems messed up. It could be my TV or I'm just remembering wrong. Anyone else notice this?

Yes I noticed this too its not garbled tho. Its like its not sized in or something. I still had the problem with saveing inside interior cells an it seems to slow down your initial load by alot. Other then that I havent noticed anything.
