Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim

Post » Wed Sep 07, 2011 6:52 pm

Does Bethesda ever take cues from the MOD community and include an idea created soley by a MOD designer and put it in the next game? And If this is the case, what MODs (that were created for Oblivion) do you hope to see in Skyrim?

For legal reasons, they can't just take mods and put them in games.

Nope, but they do take ideas from mods. Like the reactive blocking from Deadly Reflex and the slower bows but with higher damage.

Mirrorwind was the evil twin of Morrowind. Everybody had Evil 'Stashes. And was British.

Now that would be a great Mod.

It looks like they took some queues from the Nehrim guys with their world design, which looks much, much better than Oblivion.

Duke Patrick's archery was definitely a huge inspiration. also(this is just a personal observation by the way) Midas Magic seems to have inspired quite a bit of the new magic system

So then what mods in Oblivion then would the good folks of this board like to see in Skyrim?

Quarl's texture packs and Reneer's guard overhaul instantly come to mind. definitely stuff from deadly reflex too.
though I can only guess at what other forumites want to see. and poor guesses at that :teehee:

Actually, Bethesda owns everything created with any of their construction kits.

I honestly don't know of anything that they took from Morrowind and brought to Oblivion.

It's funny, the mods in morrowind are mostly centered around improving the graphics. All the gameplay improving mods in Oblivion are not really present in Morrowind.

If they brought a lot of morrowind to oblivion, Oblivion would have turned up nothing short of Morrowind 2.0. People would have actually ended up complaining about Oblivion being an expansion rather than a new game at that point.

That quote kind of irked me... If BGS really thinks that was the greatest mod ever made for one of their games, they really need to pay better attention to the modding community. We've (well not necessarily me, but I try) produced some absolutely incredible stuff, and the one mod they bother talking about inspiring them is a stat change for bows.

Obviously, you have never played Morrowind. Morrowind despite a few things, was the last ES game that really maintained the real hardcoe elements of rpg. Oblivion was a "light" rpg that was enjoyed by many. As for the other poster that said that Morrowind hasn't copy Oblivion's gameplay. well, duh, guess why?

I have played morrowind. During spring break a few years back, Morrowind was one of the only things I did, besides box, sleep and eat. What I was referring to was its gameplay mechanics. Not quite as many, in that regard. there was more stuff to do though

They do, they often look at the popular mods and decide to build a similar system into the next game.

Good sometimes....but if yuor like me and dont use the popular mods cause they dont appeal it really can ruin the next games for you. Bethesda have to remember that a mojority of PC players using a mod doesnt mean its good for the next game.
