Morrowind or Oblivion?

Jumping back to Morrowind won't be a disconnect, it'll expand his views of how Skyrim came into being.

If you don't use anything else for Morrowind, at least look at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:UMP.

Guys, he said that Skyrim is his first TES game. Jumping back to Morrowind is going to feel like a disconnect to him. Oblivion is much closer to Skyrim in terms of technology, interface and accessibility.

Oblivion is pretty much a downgraded Skyrim though. It's 'too' similar, while taking away Skyrim's good aspects.

Morrowind players going to Skyrim will get the same feeling he will going from Skyrim to Morrowind. Different game.

Yeah, I planned to get all TES games, though. But right now I just can get one.
Maybe the others after Dawnguard come out.

Oblivion is better in my opinion. Although morrowind has more depth, the combat is to primitive for me to get into. Between Morrowind, Oblivion and skyrim, Oblivion strikes a balance im comfortable with.

Morrowind Story,Factions,Quests,Atmoshpere,Rpg.

Oblivion, Graphics, Combat, Horses, Fast Travel from anywhere (like skyrim)

Be forwarned without mods Morrowind has not aged well in terms of animations. And Morrowind is very difficult compared to Skyrim and Oblivion. If that sort of thing is a deal breaker for you.

If not then I say get Morrowind over Oblivion. Or get both.

that could be said both ways, with skyrim being a downgraded oblivion, taking away oblivion's good aspects. different doesn't mean better or worse.

Oblivion was my first TES game and I was blown away with how good it was, and how much stuff you could do. I bought Morrowind early last year because I knew it had to be good, possibly better than Oblivion, but I just can't get in to it. I'm too lazy to read everything, and I always die VERY fast. Whenever i swing my weapon it only hits 3/10 times, even though I'm right in front of the guy and my reticle is on him. And by Sithis, the loading times! I'm sure if I had gotten it around when it came out I would of loved it.

Morrowind is immersive but it isn't exactly "fun", nor has it stood the test of time well. Combat is dated, interface is cumbersome, there's no fast travel and Vvardenfell is a pretty dull place to look at. Oblivion is the much better choice, way more fun and accessible.

Everyone says he should play Morrowind, I agree. However depending how much he likes Skyrim I would suggest Oblivion.

Morrowind is by far a hardcoe game compared to Skyrim.

way more fun and accessible.

Save the hand-holding and generic copy-pasted dungeons, as well as quirky and over-colorful graphics that make it look like a disney cartoon...

Morrowind Definitely. It's a massive step down from graphics and Gameplay but Oblivion is just horrible. Once you get used to the graphics in Morrowind it'll be infinitely better than anything Oblivion can through it. Just be sure to take good care of the character and after a while 75% of the attacks will connect. if you're on PC than hey! Graphics and fighting won't be as much of a problem.

Morrowind by a long shot. Morrowind has been my favorite in the series, and Oblivion was considered my worst. And I've played Daggerfall and Redguard as well.

But it also depends on your playstyle. I imagine you'll find Oblivion to just feel like a severely downgraded Skyrim.
This.

Oblivion. I started playing with Morrowind but when Oblivion came out I never missed Morrowind after that. Morrowinds downs are awful combat system and graphics (but graphics can be fixed with mods). Oblivions downs are too taut level scaling and too generic dungeons (but level scaling can be fixed with mods).
Also if you have Oblivion you'll be able get another awesome game called Nehrim. It's total conversion mod for Oblivion and happens on it's own world but it's as huge and almost as good as the Oblivion itself.

Hey, guys! Skyrim is my first TES game, and I really love it. But I kinda bored right now cause I've completed main quests and all guild quests. And while waited Dawnguard to come out, I'm thinking to buy Morrowind or Oblivion. But, what should I buy? What's better? Can you please tell me their ups and downs?
Thanks in advance ^^

Despite the flow, Oblivion. While Morrowind may have alot more game content, I personally find it a little boring compared to Oblivion. Perhaps it's me and my ADHD acting up against the lack of voice actors and the requirement of...reading *Shudder*..or it's just the faulty game mechanics or realism (Swinging a dagger at a rat and missing every time because you're not trained in the skill.) In Oblivion, you miss when you actually miss. I also think the quests are a bit more fun due to advanced animation. ^^. True, magic is a little downgraded thanks to the lack of Levitation/Flying spells (R.I.P.) and creating your own spells is more complicated/restricted, but I find most of the aspects of both games fun, just some of Oblivions more.

Save the hand-holding and generic copy-pasted dungeons, as well as quirky and over-colorful graphics that make it look like a disney cartoon...

and I think it's better then generic copy-pasted dungeons with terrible outdated graphics that make it look like Might and Magic 7. (No harm towards MoM7, that game was boss.

Morrowind, but only if you're prepared for dated graphics and reading a lot.

One thing though : It's Oblivion and Shivering Isles, and that counts for a lot in my book.

I suggest Oblivion. It is a lot closer to what you are used to with Skyrim than Oblivion is. I also personally found it to be much more fun, and replayable (3 years playing Oblivion, where Morrowind got boring after about 2 months).

Depends on what you like/dislike about Skyrim. If you are unsatisfied with the RPG aspects and wish you could delve deeper into those, (strongholds, greater armor/weapon variation and customization, Dwemer, among others) then you want Morrowind. However, if you like the combat and voice-overs in Skyrim, then you want Oblivion. Morrowind has a roll-based combat system and a lot of writing to go through. I personally love both, though Oblivion edges out Morrowind slightly IMO.

Morrowind and it's not even close.

As others have said, the graphics will be dated and there is no voice acting so you will spend more time reading, but it's a lot better than Oblivion.

I would also wager that of the people telling you to get Oblivion, they are mostly young console players.

What does the platform we play on have to do with anything? Are you suggesting that people who play on XBox or PS3 are somehow lesser gamers than those who play on computer? That people who play on a console are not as interested in deep roleplaying mechanics as those who play on computer? That people who play on a console are mainly interested in graphics?

And what does age have to do with anything either? Are you suggesting that younger players are less interested in gameplay and roleplaying than older players? Are you suggesting they are more interested in flashy graphics than older players?

If that is what you are suggesting your post is ignorant.
