Morrowind. Oblivion has been weighed, measured, and has been found wanting. (Cookie 4 U if you get the reference) ;)

Bible, Book of Daniel... very ominous.

Oh, and I prefer Gothic II...

Anyway, I prefer Morrowind, though I'll admit that I'm probably biased by nostalgia.

Oblivion has better gameplay and is better to replay because it's more random, this cause Oblivion to win for me. Yes I miss the story and deep background in Morrowind, really different areas with real politic.

the enemies scaling with your level was a great idea this means that you will never have no use for one place because you can always train anywhere.

... You're kidding, right?

Don't get me wrong, Level Scaling isn't inhernetly a bad idea, and most games use some form of it (even Morrowind with what kind of creature spawns), but Oblivion's form was... horrid. It was too easy to make the player weaker as they gained levels; and it gets absurd if, say, you fought a Goblin Warlord. Plus, at high levels (+30), my Daedric Longsword badly needed to be repaired after. Every. Single. Fight. With. A. Creature. And god help me if I faced more than... 2 at that level.

Oh, and if you get too high, your weapons pretty much mimic using the rusty dagger against a town guard, unless the thing's been enchanted up the wazoo... that's just not right.

But yeah, still favor Morrowind... but not due to that wall-banging aspect of Oblivion.

Morrowind, hands down. I love Oblivion, but it's never really captured me the way Morrowind did (and still does). I haven't replayed Morrowind for a while now, but I still have dreams about it. Morrowind is just brilliant, and the depth of all the politics and religious disputes in the game make it so much more immersive and enthralling than Oblivion.

If we're talking about the vanilla game, I prefer Morrowind
If we're talking about the modded game, I prefer Oblivion.

The exact opposite for me. I guess it has to do with the fact that I played Oblivion for three years before unleashing my Nord onto Vvardenfell and later on Solstheim.
I enjoy both games very much, but if I have to make a choice playing just one of the games I think it′s gonna be Oblivion as I have so much history there with my dunmer. Besides, I would miss Bruma :sadvaultboy:

Hmm, those things are also why I choose the latter over the former. I mean, politics and religion??

Morrowind by a long, long long shot.

As much as I love Oblivion (and trust me I love Oblivion) I never felt as submerged in the game as I did with Morrowind.

With Morrowind I always felt this overwhelming sense of unease and mystery whenever I walked down a road, into a tavern or down a dungeon. Going into a fight I always thought "oh [censored]".

However the main thing that really grabbed me with Morrowind was the story. The main quest in Morrowind is something I will remember for the rest of my life. Every time I hear the music to Morrowind I forget all my troubles in the world and can sit back and take a deep breathe.

Oblivion blew me away but eventually left me feeling underwhelmed. However, I really do believe the TES series needed Oblivion to reach the next level of grandeur that will be TESV the devs learnt a great deal in my eyes from their failures (and successes) with TESIV.

For me, the difference between Oblivion and Morrowind is that I have to mod the hell out of Oblivion before it becomes enjoyable. Morrowind I could play on an X-Box.

Oblivion, although I agree 100% with those who didn't like the leveling system. I may have voted MW if I played it first, but I went at them backwards so the incredibly slow start to MW combined with the comparatively boring graphics kept me wanting more of OB in MW.

I also agree that MW's story is much more complex, but that also counted against it for me. Not maybe the complexity but the approach the designers took to get that complexity I actually gave up on MW after I got to a point where I was stuck badly. I consulted the Wiki and found I'd NEVER have figured out something like:

1. Go to A and say you have a gem.
2. A will say give the gem to B, but if you do then C will try to kill you.
3. So give the gem to D which will annoy A, but make C happy and then C will give you a mission which will take 3 months real time and you must do it just a certain way or A will try to kill you and then D will be angry.
4. After the mission, get the gem from C who got it from D but only if E is still operating his hot dog stand in a windstorm.
5. Take the gem, give it to a wise woman who will give you a stick to take to C who will give you a spoon you take to B and then B will give you a fork you take to D.
6 Return to the wise woman and get a peanut for your efforts.

Gimme OB any day and a game I can play w/o constant referring to the Wiki.

I love lore, so that much explain a lot of why I loooove the politics and religion in Morrowind. You don't have to be into the politics and religion aspects of the game - hell, I wasn't when I finished the MQ the first time - but it adds a lot more when you can be interested in what's actually going on behind the stuff you have to do. The reasons why people act the way they do, etc. Intricacy adds to immersion.

I chose Morrowind.

That being said, I love Oblivion. Sure, it had its faults, but they were easy to overlook. But Morrowind does have the rich culture to it, and it felt more like an original setting. Oblivion is great, but Morrowind has that certain "something" to it.

Oblivion had better graphics, better combat, animations, ect.

But Morrowind had a sense of identity, if that makes any sense.

I love and play both, but Morrowind takes the cake, by a hair. :talk:

( Plus morrowind had solstheim, the best expansion to ANY videogame I have seen yet. )

Oblivion. I'm not an extremist though, i really like Morrowind and being honest i think you have to play both to get that sense of elder scrolls magic. I suppose i'm just one of those people that can put the greatness of both games together to create an awesome memory of what the series is. Instead of choosing an alliegence like most people on here seem to do.

If I were to go for quests, and exploration, and adventure, and general coolness I would go for Morrowind.
If I were to go for combat and graphics I would go for Oblivion.
Tough call, but nostalgia is making me vote Morrowind.

But in Morrowind, you could just kill A, B, and C, take all their stuff, forget completely about D, and just enjoy the fishy sticks from E's Hot Dog stand. In Oblivion, A, B, C, D, and E will all be tagged as "essential," and therefore, immortal. So you only have one way to complete the quest in Oblivion. In Morrowind, you can do whatever you want. The options may come across as complicated, but that's the difference between Morrowind and every other CRPG out there (especially the Japanese ones). Freedom. Yes, Oblivion gives the player much more freedom than most other CRPGs, but by then, I'd already played Morrowind. Oblivion was a step backward in that regard. I loved Oblivion, and still play it from time to time. I am especially fond of the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions. And some of the quests in Oblivion were just plain cool. But I always carried with me that feeling that I've been restricted. That we've taken a step back; after having opened Morrowind's box, we tried to shove it back in. And that just disappoints me a little.

I pick Oblivion, mainly because it made sneaking fun and added proper dungeon music. Morrowind really kills the immersion by playing happy explore music in a creepy dark dungeon, and it's not really possible to replace it cause then it will just play creepy music outdoors while exploring.

Out of MW and OB, I would say that the OB Thieves Guild quest line is the one I've played the most. I still played Daggerfall far more, though :P

While it's true you could just kill whoever, it's really not the recommended thing to do as it will often result in the quest being unfinishable. So then you're stuck with a quest you can never finish and never do the following quests that require you finish it (so you can't proceed in the Mage's Guild or whatever).

Neither Morrowind or Oblivion offer particulary "free" quests compared to some other CRPGs out there. For example, when was the last time you finished a quest in a TES game thanks to a high speechcraft skill and not thanks to the sword? Those quests are extremely rare.
