Morrowind or Oblivion theme?

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 6:09 pm

Morrowind was far more superior to Oblivion when it came to being a RPG.
Skills played an important part regarding player Accuracy
Spell and Weapon variable damages made combat that little bit more interesting

The only thing that Oblivion was "better" at was appearance.

It really didn't take long for someone to open this can of worms, did it?

Anyway, I voted for neither. I like both, but I can't pick one over the other.

We're comparing main themes, not games. Don't try to start unnecessary arguments.

Did Shivering Isles have its own music?

No.

And I'm voting in favour of Morrowind. Oblivion's theme starts very well, but then turns flat and nearly boring. While my only disapointement with Morrowind's theme is its being too short.

When I first heard MW's theme song, I'll admit, I was pretty awed at first but after the 800th time I was tired of it. Oblivions however still gives me an adventurous feeling inside. When I wanna feel cheered up I listen to the OB theme song. MWs theme is amazing yes, but for whatever reason,i personally enjoy OBs more. But then again each theme fits each game quite well. ;+s is mysterious, slow, majestic, while OBs was familiar, inspiring, and adventurous

You should have a "both" option.

I love the Morrowind theme. It's actually one of the main reasons I bought the game.

Oblivion's theme is like Morrowind's with a different beat.

I liked Oblivion for the string instruments.

I liked Morrowind's because it was called "Nerevar Rising", and it was calming.

Morrowinds, but Oblivions is great too. They both fit their respective games, I just prefer Morrowinds

Liked TES 2 theme music better then both of them. If "neither" wasn't an option I would of voted for Morrowind.

Oblivion's sounds like a Pirates of the Carribean rip off. Morrowind.

This...I once launched the game and a friend of mine asked me if we were going to watch a Pirates of the Caribean movie

I was talking about the theme songs. Sorry that I wasn't clear enough. :P I do agree that Morrowind's version of Reign of the Septims was more mystical, but Oblivion's version was a little more triumphant. :P I personally think the best of the three versions is Epinikion's version. ;)

PS - I will add a Both option, as I hadn't thought about that before.

Looking at nothing but the theme songs as they are presented in the game, I'd easily pick Oblivion. That song gives me chills every time I hear it. While I love the Morrowind theme, it's never had that effect on me. That said, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPEEp5R_pOo off the special edition soundtrack does have that effect on me and is a better song, in my opinion. But, it's technically not from the game, so I don't think it counts.

On topic, I prefer the Morrowind theme. The softer tone of it is a lot more appealing to me than Oblivion's take.

This. Daggerfall's music overall is amazing. I dunno if that's the newness of it because I just recently started playing, but it ranks high in my all time favorite game soundtracks.

Jeremy Soule did an amazing job with both Morrowind and Oblivion's soundtracks as well. The music in these games is fantastic and it's one of the things I'm most excited about for in TES V.

http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu180/Skyflyer231/lolwut.jpg I thought we were talking about theme songs?!?

Anyways, I liked both. I think they represented both of their game styles very well, though they were very much the same theme.

Many call it Morrowind/Oblivion theme for a reason. My ears tell me they are the same theme, different arrangement. Maybe a musician around could comment on it.

PS. I am specifically talking about main title/opening theme. Sorry for confusion.

I hear the same thing.

Well they are the same notation, and pretty much the same note duration. The only real difference is the time signature, and the instruments involved.

Morrowind is in 4/4 timing and is made to sound more mystical (almost even more archaic), and Oblivion is in 3/4 or 6/8 timing which is usually associated with "pirate" or "sea" music timing, which generally makes Oblivion's theme more triumphant sounding (especially because of the orchestral arrangement).

I think both suit the theme of their respective games. Morrowind being more slow and building into a grand quest as to Oblivions urgent epic struggle.

As far as personal taste is concerned I vote Morrowind.

I love both themes for what they are. I think they are both fitting for their separate games. But when it comes down to which one I prefer, it's Morrowind. Not by much, though, I do really like them both.

This, both themes are great for the games they are for. It would probably sound pretty stupid if they switched the two themes. :P

I don't think using that song at all, in any time count or orchestration, would be lore friendly for the next game.

{SPOILER WARNING... err... somewhat}

The song is called The Reign of the Septims, and if the Septims no longer rule Tamriel, it would have to be changed to Reign of the Medes. :P
