Morrowind. It fit the setting better. It also sounded more epic (and I'm using epic in the traditional definition, not the overused, online one). Anyways, I find Morrowind's theme more epic because it starts off very peaceful and minimal, with only a simple melody. However, it crescendos into a full orchestra with chords, melody, and flourishes that make it sound truly extraordinary. It really is beautiful. It sounds victorious and empowering, while still maintaining a tempo and melody that made me feel tranquility and peace, maybe even euphoria. I guess, to put it plainly, it made me feel good. It made me happy. As I have mentioned before, I felt Morrowind's theme better fit the setting. I feel the arrangement focused on instruments that produced fantastic (as in fantasy) sounds. In fact, one could argue that the theme fit the entire story: a simple beginning that crescendos into an epic final battle resulting in harmony throughout the land.
Now, Oblivion, on the other hand, had a theme I really didn't like. It literally was a sensationalized copy of the Morrowind theme. It had the same melody, however it was modified so it would sound more "perilous" and "exciting". They did this by starting loudly and quickly and increasing the tempo, while adding in louder, deeper wind instruments and removing strings. All it did, in my opinion, was make it sound rushed, cheap, and amateurish. At the very least, they could have written a new melody. Morrowind's melody was perfect, for Morrowind. It didn't match Oblivion at all.
That's just my opinion.
