[WIPz] Morrowind Overhaul - Game Experience

Post » Sun Aug 29, 2010 11:58 am

Whaaaat?
The Morrowind Overhaul - Game Experience pack is, as you can imagine, the second pack of the Morrowind Overhaul Project.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8987 took care of the graphics and sounds part, but what's up with the rest?
Here it is, this second pack aims to enhance *everything* else in the game:

- Gameplay
- Atmosphere
- Contents
- Quests
- And much more...

Obviously this pack is going to be fully compatible with the MGSO Release, in fact the goal is to reach a comprehensive release of both packs, all in one.

Easy to use?
My primary goal is to achieve the easier install possible.
Main features:
- A full and detailed guide
- A guide to Wrye Mash (very important program for this pack)
- A customization guide (every mod will have a complete and detailed description of its funtionalities)
- The original readmes that come with the included mods
- An automatic installer
- A videotutorial for the installation (just like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=409C4kWjzjg for MGSO)
- http://morrowindoverhaul.net/forum/ will be open for any problem or suggestion, and the http://morrowindoverhaul.net/blog/ too
- The pack will be often updated, just like we're doing with the MGSO Pack

Modularity
Just like the MGSO was, this pack will come with an Options Program. That program will give you the opportunity to change the contents added by the modpack.
Almost every important mod can be disabled/enabled. Conflicts will be avoided by the program itself, you won't be able to install 2 mods that conflict each other!
Every option will have a detailed description and, if needed, a screenshot.

Modlist
Here's a little preview of what we planned to include in this compilation:
(Watch out, it's quite big)

NOTE: I didn't ask for all the permissions yet. So don't panic if you see your mod here and you didn't receive my request yet.

Credits and Modder Permissions
I'm contacting every modder to receive permissions. This will take quite long, since there are many mods that I would like to include!

Actually I'm sure that these mods aren't going to be included:
- Any Fliggerty's mods (lack of permissions)
- LGNPC (I received the permissions, but I think that including LGNPC will be an error, because it's often updated and it could conflict with many mods)
- Julan Ashlander Companion

Excellent, I reinstalled Morrowind yesterday after years of neglect because I saw the video for your Graphics & Audio overhaul. Heres hoping the gameplay pack is as extensive. Keep up the good work.

Thanks :)

He doesn't want his mod included in this project, because he often updates them :(
I loved his mods, and it's a pity that I cannot include them.

I don't get this reason. I would assume a lot of other http://www.ubuntu.com/ don't either as it works fine for them. Bugs with the compilation are passed upstream if they are a problem with an upstream package. Minor revisions are pulled from upstream and the entire system works. Sure you are not always at the current major version of the packages, but that is the cost of having a more stable distribution.

Meh. My opinion.

Yeah I think the same way, but if that's his wish, I certainly won't ignore it :)
I hope he will change his decision before the release of the package

When I list these, keep the work 'optional' in mind, because I'd rather not type it after most of these.

Some of my personal favorites.

Creatures X and this http://sites.google.com/site/johnmoonsugar/Home/morrowind-mods (scroll to CreaturesX-jms_patch-0.2).
Greater Dwemer Ruins
Official Plugins (Cleaned)
Galsiah's Character Development or Madd Leveler
Morrowind Advanced
Rise of House Telvanni
Never/Forgotten Halls
Sobitur Facility
Deus Ex Machina

I won't include Deus Ex Machinima: it's too different from Morrowind's original style. I'll look into Sobitur Facility, I have to try it :)

Good to hear.

Also, here are some creature mods that I would like to hear opinions about, and if they fit Morrowind well enough to be in the pack:

Will you put all the major stuff in the first release so we don't have to start a new playthrough when you update it, or can that not be guaranteed?

Yes I will, when a plugin that requires a new game will come out, I'll leave it as suggestion.

About Madd leveler; there is an unresolved issue with The CodePatch concerning characters with spell absorption (and maybe resist magicka as well). The combination can introduce a bug that breaks Madd's attribute level up and recovery from fortified attribute state.

Creatures X has one major annoying issue...the silly bugs/rats it spawns all over the towns. Fix that and I'd use it again for sure.

GCD presents some issues, due to the state it was left in. I'm running a version pulled from the thread on these forums, but it still has some issues.

Can't say enough about Darknuts GDR.

I wouldn't play without GCD. It's an excellent mod, but I don't know if I would recommend it to everyone. I think you really have to be willing to open it up and tinker with settings in the CS to really get the best of it. I've toned magicka regen way down (my warrior character doesn't regen a full magicka bar within 1 game day, with NoM's longest day length setting) and my skill leveling speed is also very low to keep my character from getting strong quickly. It's a great mod, but if you want to play a superman-esque character it's going to prevent it. I'd certainly recommend it as optional though.

Do you mean Gluby's 1.08 with start fix? I've heard reports of problems but I have several hundred hours experience with it and haven't seen any. What kind of problem have you had?

Sorry for the shameless plug, but would you consider my http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=4970 for part of the compilation?

Do you mean Gluby's 1.08 with start fix? I've heard reports of problems but I have several hundred hours experience with it and haven't seen any. What kind of problem have you had?

Yeah Glubby's. I had some issues with a couple Chargen mods along with some other older mods (one of which can't be discussed here).

It also has the unfortunate issue of having been merged so you can't use the various plugins
