[RELz] Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics 3.0 by KIN

Post » Wed May 08, 2013 11:01 am

That would probably be for the best. I saw your thread about Vurt's landscape and those errors usually occur because the mesh can't find the textures - either they weren't installed or their not where the mesh is expecting them to be. If you do reinstall and continue to get errors, post your warnings.txt file and we'll see if we can help. I would recommend running Morrowind once until you get to Jiub before you install MGSO because of MGE/MGE XE.

Does Vista still have trouble installing meshes and textures properly?

Are you using Vista, AD?

I was unaware of the various patches available for this mod suite. Has there been a patch made for the odd naming on some containers found in the included version of windows glow? It's from the "Windows Glow - Raven Rock Eng" plugin. "com_chest_01_pos" was changed for some reason by this mod, instead of being named "chest" it has an odd string of characters as a name instead. I've fixed it in my copy already, but a "official" fix would be nice too.

Best,

Not a problem anymore, I've since fixed that issue.

The only problem I'm having with this now is that there's a white line that runs horizontal parallel with the sea line whenever I'm outside. I've been able to ignore it for a little time but it's something I certainly want to remove. Does anyone know where this issue is coming from?

Sounds like it could be a fog issue. What fog settings are you using and have you updated your video card driver?

I didn't change anything for fog settings. Was that one of the automated parts of the installation?

And I've not updated my video card driver. What... does that mean?

I was trying to install it and I have come to a bit of a problem. After I get the instructions on the very next page some problems occur, it says:

It's a morrowind folder: No, Morrowind files are missing.
Latest game version (1.6.1820): The exe file is missing.
Tribunal and Bloodmoon are installed: No, both the expansions are missing.
UAC is dissabled: Yes.

I don't know about the first one but I do know that I have the right version and I certainly know that I have both expansions installed (Steam GOTY edition).
I will keep posting roblems as they occur (well there's another one but it seems to be nothing ATM.)

Do you have installer and all installation files in your Morrowind folder? (i.e. in the folder where Morrowind.exe is located)

I tried that I think. I cut and pasted it into: Program Files (X86) < Steam < Steamapps < Common < Morrowind and still no change in what it says.

Also, when I try to extract MOInstaller.exe before it says that I don't have the expansion packs etc. it shows this then proceeds to tell me that.

I'm unfarmiliar with the workings of the Steam version, but ever since UAC was introduced into Windows, I've always had Morrowind installed into " *:\Bethesda\Morrowind ".

1. You should have Morrowind installed in different location than Program Files. Otherwise, you need to disable UAC and lauch the installer as administrator (and even then I'm not 100% sure it will work)

2. Installation files must be in your Morrowind directory

3. You have to disable steam Overlay before installing Morrowind

I've heard plenty about "morrowind directory" but have no clue as to what it is or where it is. Also, I have UAC disabled and I don't have the option to run it as administrator. Steam overlay is also disabled.

Steam defaults to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind on Windows 7 64-bit & Vista. The problem with the x86 folder is that a lot of times Windows refuses to give programs in there the necessary system access they need to run properly; which is why it's recommended that you install Morrowind somewhere else, like C:\Morrowind. You should be able to move the whole Morrowind folder (NOT your Steam folder) somewhere else. Once you do that, run Morrowind once so that the registry entries are updated.

To run the MGSO installer as an admin, just right click on it and select Run as Administrator from the menu.

*:\Bethesda\Morrowind (or wherever you have it installed) is the Morrowind directory. A directory is the same as a folder: it's where stuff is on your computer. An asterisk (*) denotes a wildcard, which is like a placeholder for a word or a part of a file path. In the above example it represents the drive letter.

Just so you know....that odd string of characters is leftover from the Russian version (the author is Russian I believe).

Sometimes you have no choice but to hate Windows 7. When I try to move it to any other folder it gives the following

It says that even if I actually don't have anything in said file being used anywhere.

That's what I meant, when I right click it the option to run as admin is not there.

Perhaps we should take this step by step from the beginning.

I downloaded it and put it in the morrowind directory, then when I try to load the installer I get the error message I mentioned and that's as far as I can make it.

Exactly as Jac said.

Although I had no idea you can just move the folder around and launch the game afterwards to update the register keys, thanks for the tip, Jac

Morrowind directory = Morrowind folder = The folder, where morrowind.exe is located (NOT the shortcut usually located on your desktop!)

I would recommend to try to do it over again from the beginning:

1. Uninstall Morrowind

2. Install Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon again, somewhere else than Program files

3. Disable steam overlay

4. Move installer of MGSO and all associated files into Morrowind directory (folder, where morrowind.exe is located)

5. Install MGSO

6. Enjoy the game

Done it all, re-installed Morrowind earlier today and Steam overlay is off for Morrowind by default now and all associated MGSO files are in the Morrowind directory.

Has anyone else had any of these problems?

Edit: Since I have the steam copy I have no choice as to where I install it.

Double edit: Unless I hear any ideas that I think might actually be able to accomplish anything I'm just going to go ahead and download the other mods that I want.

Anytime. If it doesn't work, you can always change the path in the registry, though I wouldn't recommend that with Steam.

@TheMostManlyMan: your error when moving was probably caused by Steam being open. As far as I know, the latest version of Steam gives you a choice as to where you want to install your games. I have three Steam games installed on my E drive. If push comes to shove, just install Steam somewhere other than the default Program Files (x86) folder and let it install your games within its folders (the default locations).

Whilst I haven't tried it myself http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover/ allows you to move installed Steam games to other directories and drives.

PC Gamer had a write-up about this compilation in their latest U.S. edition in the extended play section. It was a rather nice article too.
